Electronics might not have macro moving components but to describe them as inert is a total misunderstanding - they generate heat, require mechanical mountings (solder, circuit boards, etc.), need connectors subject to heat and corrosion, etc. Most people cannot repair, or even diagnose, faulty electronics and that will be the cause of most EVs being scrapped even when their mechanical components and bodywork are still in good working order.

If the load in the DPF has built up too high then no amount of driving will force a regen, in this case sometimes a regen can be forced with a diagnostic tool but in others a DPF clean (or replacement) is needed. After 150k miles you're past the assumed design life of a DPF, which is around 120k miles, so really all bets are off without the DPF load data from a diagnostic tool such as OBD11 or VCDS.

What are the revs at 70mph in top gear? If below 2500rpm then you need to be in a lower gear to force a regen.

Some petrols do have an EGR valve (my previous Toyota Aygo for example) but others have a form of EGR created by valve overlap timing.

Correct. On the 1.4/1.5 EA211 there are only direct injectors but the 1.8/2.0 EA888 does have an extra indirect injector so on them an additive MIGHT help.

On my Mk3 I get a message on the instruments that TSR is currently unavailable, If the map is out-of-date (because the speed limits have changed) then annoyingly TSR will still show the map data in preference to the camera data.

Have you checked the war pattern on the tyres? It's been mentioned on here in the past that uneven patterns of wear on the tyre tread blocks can cause the sort of noises you mention.

I'm not sure why you made a link between the OBD11 apps and SFD, I didn't. I've made 2 unconnected posts recently on here: 1) Ross-Tech are working with VAG to enable SFD on VCDS 2) OBD11 apps have a history of making changes that have unwanted side effects.

TSR works using both the camera and the maps, and cross checks between them.

Yes, seriously. If I had £1 for every time an OBD11 app hasn't made the correct changes, then I would have my own private jet (slight exaggeration!). I've seen this on this site and a diagnostic tool website. Why does this happen? Because VAG/Skoda make running changes to their software and the apps don't keep up with those changes. Never ever use the apps - always understand how the system works and make the changes manually.

Are you 100% sure you have a 1.4TSI? IF you do have a 1.4TSI (petrol) then Skoda Dartford are WRONG! The EA211 engine (1.4TSI and 1.5TSI) all have a timing BELT, and (for information) the water pump and timing belt are on opposite ends of the engine so they do NOT need the water pump replacing when the timing belt is replaced.

No so, Ross-Tech have paid VW a huge amount of money and jumped through many 'hoops' required but VW move at a rate slower than most glaciers when granting access to the SFD system.

On a non-Canton system all the speakers are wired directly to the rear of the unit in the glovebox.

It took a long time for Skoda to sort out most of the many software problems (some still haven't been fixed, just read the Mk4 thread on here) so for reliability I'd pick a Mk3 or MK3.5 but if tech presses your buttons (and you don't mind soft keys instead of switches) then Mk4 is the one to go for.
