So, I have KESSY but I have a question about the physical key that is 'hidden' in the remote
Fair enough. Then you should lock the very item which is required to start your car inside it then. Oh, wait a minute…. 🙄

I’d put the KESSY in a waterproof case and take it with me.

TMC not Working
Interesting. I’m out at 6am, I’ll see if it’s back on. I’m amazed there isn’t anything about this elsewhere.

TMC not Working
Thanks everyone for the confirmations. I really like Waze but it’s rubbish on the MIB1 Columbus, inasmuch as it doesn’t allow a 3D view; it’s like going back to the double DIN 4:3 in the Superb MKI!

Amundsen Mib2 Map Updates 2023
I’d just like to know if others are not receiving TMC notifications. If not, it rules out a hardware problem and if not, well, it will be.

Amundsen Mib2 Map Updates 2023
I posted a thread on this too, which langers2k kindly looped back your posts. I’ve never had an issue with TMC since 2012, when it was available on the Columbus in the MKII; its always been stable and available. Dynamic routing is ticked so it’s definitely not that.

TMC not Working
I’ve rarely used this but today had a long drive on the M25/M1/A45 so pressed traffic to check the TMC situation and got precisely nothing; no data, no records - ziltch. TMC flag has a redline through it. Anyone have any idea what’s going on? I’ve looked in settings and I can’t find anything as the system says it’s automatic and cannot be switched off.

What have you done to your Superb III today?
Colin, you’re right there. I had Weller alloys on our Cooper S with the stickiest Kelly Springfield tyres that lasted about 2000 miles before I needed a new set on the front. I seem to recall, they were about £25 a side. The Wellers were still like new when I sold it in ‘83 (yeah don’t… I know; I should’ve kept it).

That’s true Colin, except it’s me who’s kerbed all four wheels since I’ve owned it. I have never kerbed any wheels on ‘00’s cars I’ve driven, but these ones have had an irresistible attraction to the kerbside. Putting that damage aside, the dreaded worm is caused by the lacquer coating being too thin and it’s not just these wheels, seems to be all of the wheel manufacturers do the same. The other day, I noticed that the wheels on a 2018 Aston Martin were suffering worm.

Columbus Map Update 2022-2023 (MIB1/2 HIGH)
Dumb question. Can I use a USB stick inserted into the USB slot next to the phone holder to update the Columbus? I've used an SD Card into the reader on the unit in the glovebox in the past to update, but I just wondered if a USB was an option?

Hmmmm. Each to their own Colin, but they’re not my cup of tea.

Service Notification.
I, and I’m sure, many of us had the same issue during lockdown. Additionally, I’ve had it again as I was not driving from Oct ‘21 to Mar this year. It’s just one of those things I’m afraid. I had an oil change last July and I’ll be getting it changed again shortly and annually from then on. Time for a DSG and Haldex oil change too. 👍🏻

Boot Light/Removable torch not working
That’s annoying and yep, it sounds like it is. If I take mine out of the holder it literally falls apart in my hand and I’m boogered if I’m gonna pay £50 for a replacement! 😂 In realty, is a useless torch too. I’d just get some brighter LED units and forget the about the torch.

Ahh.. confused if that’s the case. 1. DSG gear stick. Current gives fast access to 'D'<>'S' and 'D'<>'N'. Yeah, our 2016 model does that; pull it back from D for S and push it up from D for N 2. Physical Start-Stop and other buttons. Yep, AFAIK they’re in the same place. 3. Location of display. It’s in front of me. Virtual Display might be nice I suppose. 4. Cooling box under armrest. Yes, it’s a cooled box under the armrest.

280 Tsi long term ...
Our 280 is 6 1/4 years old with 34k and still on the original P7’s! The only failures have been the right steering wheel controls, replaced under warranty and a rear wheel speed sensor, which made the entire system go nuts as we disembarked the Cairnryan to Belfast ferry and then every few miles for the next three weeks and Ireland and all the way back. Sorted very inexpensively and expertly by Wheelbase in Hersham. It’s the best car I’ve had, including Sierra Cosworth, Mondeo ST200, Fiat Coupe Turbo, Nissan SX200, Lexus blah, blah… and certainly owned. Will be keeping this one for good.

Tyre swapping back to front
I’ve always rotated the tyres on all the cars we have owned. More difficult with alloys of course, so I just swap NSR to OSF, OSF to NSR, OSR to NSF, NSF to OSR. It evens out tyre wear.
