Glad you finally got your MOT. 👍 Check strip fuses in fuseholder above battery, I think ABS will be position no. 4 in your car. Cracking of the metal strip often causes ABS light. Could also be a wheel speed sensor (which point at the inner face of the wheel bearings), but most often it's the strip fuse. All UK market Fabias have ABS as far a I'm aware.

Correct. On your engine it will happen internal to the cylinder head, by valve overlap, rather than via an external device and pipes, I think. No, it's the charge air cooler.

I don't see anything in the parts catalogue to suggest that a DLAC engine has an EGR valve. I think the green ring you've drawn contains a charge air cooler?

What's your engine code, please? Or VIN if you don't know.

No problem. Ignition coil fuse removed, cranked without starting, obviously. Approx 2 seconds before anything registered on the rpm/tacho dial but then it climbed to a realistic number.

I can (on a 2005 mk1 Fabia HTP/12V) later today, will have to remove a fuse for ignition coils or something, to prevent it starting. Usually start pretty instantly so may not be able to see otherwise.

Lack of rpm indication suggests an electrical problem. Check all fuses for corrosion, one by one.

OK, so it's more than one cable wrapped up together, but in the pic with lots of green busted strands, isn't that the thick alternator cable part that's suffered? Anyway, you've got to replace whatever's degraded dramatically there, so add your reg number or VIN, and I can try to find a part number for the sub-loom.

I'd be tempted to look for fuel leaks, for such a dramatic change, but you'd probably see that on the ground, or smell. I'm not really very clued up on diesels/turbo diesels I'm afraid.

It's going to the alternator output stud, surely? Black plastic cover over the nut? Measure how long it is, buy a pre-made 25mm squared cross-section bit of cable with the necessary size crimps on each end. (M8 at alt end, M6 at fuse, maybe?). Must be loads of sellers on ebay selling various or custom lengths with ends to your specifications.

Diesels of that era didn't use oxygen sensors, because they always ran with excess air. You may be thinking of petrol engines when you refer to oxygen sensors before and after cats. Latest diesels do have 1 oxygen sensor, but I think only the Common Rail (CR) generation of engines. 1.9 TDIs aren't in that category.
