  1. Its an hour's labour; I hate dealers who try and pull the wool over customer's eyes. I can (for a small fee) - send you an SD Card with all of the maps ready - and some instructions. The MIB system should then prompt you to update the maps as necessary - as long as you have either the engine running or a battery charger on the car, it should upgrade the maps for you.

  3. @mandp this is all fine; don't sweat. Lots of folk out there aren't IT literate; there are plenty of training videos online. I feel you need a computing beginners guide; alternatively - as you are in Lincolnshire, if you speak with the Horton Skoda, I am sure they will be happy to update your maps for you (for an hour's labour). There are also plenty of Briskoda members in your part of the world who I am sure would be willing to help (cos that is just the kind of folk we are).
  4. It means taking a computer file that is electronically compressed using data compression techniques and decompressing the file. Unzipping or decompressing is the same term.
  5. It comes from module 19 CAN Gateway. Look at the module connector and see if it is either not connected up correctly or there is possible corrosion...

  7. Yes, that is a good starting place. Dead or dying batteries will cause all kinds of problems. Try charging the battery overnight first though. Do you have any diagnostics (such as ODBEleven or VCDS) to get us some logs of any errors? Thanks Max
  8. You should have got an owners manual as standard with the car, but service records are held with Skoda VAG group (who should provide you a copy printout for your records).   9. Doesn't matter whether you have an MIB2 or MIB2.5 system - the process in the article still applies. You can ignore the part for Skoda Connect.
  10. You've got an electrical break in the screen copper winding for the heated screen. Two options: 1) Pay for Skoda to check out the issue and electrically test the windings in the screen 2) Pay £380 for a new screen and get your car window repair specialists to replace it for you. Thanks Max

  12. So - this is part of the whole "new" world that Skoda/VW/Seat/Porsche/Audi are going down. Your car will come with a number of 'standard' features, but if you want to 'enable' the additional features of the hardware, then you have to pay for them to be enabled. This is why Skoda/VAG introduced the component protection system on a number of the modules - to stop muggin's like me going in with VCDS and enabling up the features. The number of features will grow over the next couple of months and years to enable more 'additonal' features in the car. Personally, I don't agree with it, but then again - I have a couple of MK3 Octy's sitting on my driveway and VW see people like myself as 'stealing' money from them by enabling features for free as far as they are concerned. I personally think it is personalisation, but cars are now homogonous items that canny be 'tampered' with. The idea is that the 2nd/3rd owners can enable features that maybe the first owners may not have wanted. Remember, the car is never yours (unless you pay Cash), so its this new world of paying for services on the fly and getting subscriptions out of the back of people's initial purchases. Its also a way of keeping the cost of the car low.
  13. It should be possible for the latest MIB2.5 system (either Amunsden or Columbus) but you just won't have any Skoda Connect services available to you. Remember that as well as factoring in the cost of the unit and screen, the unit needs to be jail-broken and comfigured for your car too. What is your budget? Columbus screens and MIB2.5 units are expensive (mine cost me 1100ukp to upgrade), but Amunsden systems are cheaper and are good units and you can pick these up for about 300-400quid).
  14. There are adjustments for the wheel size that can be made which will change the speedo. @NikTheGeek Have you change wheel or tyre sizes?
  15. @georgekeemo what age is your VRS? Assuming it is a 2013 to 2016 car.
  16. Either pay an uprated clutch now (an extra 300 quid) or pay for another one in another 20k....I think I know which way I would go.
  17. Go and try and stand in front of the car - if it has been used and abuse, then it will be obvious in the interior, under the bonnet and wheels. Look at the alloys - with so many tyre punchers, I would be looking at the alloys and wheel alignment. Check and see whether the previous owner has 'cared' for the car; quality of tyres and whether the interior mats are still there.
  18. I would go for the Sach's kit; but you need to decide WHICH Sach's kit to go for.   19. It is recommended to have the fuel filter changed out every 2 years. Air filter will probably also need cleaning. Its particularly important for cars that don't do mega miles to keep the filters clean. Short journeys are not good for diesels. What have you been quoted and which garage.
  20. Do you know that from your own experience please? Yes. This came from the work they did to my TDI190 engine for the cam belt that was catching on the tensioner.
  21. Skoda will pay for work against the cambelt; that TPI is a known issue and can be acted upon. Thats 2hrs work just to unbolt that lot. You could then negotiate replacement of the aux belt to be done whilst you are there. If it is faulty, Skoda UK should cover the whole bill.
  22. Okay. Fair enough. As long as they are happy to cover the cost of all the belt replacements.
  23. If the timing belt was slipping, then you would have a catosphic engine failure due to the position of the valves and pistons all coliding together. I ~know~ the TPI says there is an adjuster issue, but that is not what is being presented here. The TPI for the timing/cam-belt exhibits an issue with the belt 'catching' the side of the adjuster and causing it rattle like mad. So - therefore, it is belt related and a good chance is that it is aux-belt related. The technician needs to have a proper look and not just look at the TPI's, cos that won't fix it.

  25. Yes - this is where I'm going with this; sounds like a self-adjuster is not playing nicely and slipping. Agree that is also the aux belt (it wouldn't be the timing belt).
