Depends what you are looking for but the 2.0 PD in the Mkii Octavia 4x4 was a development of the 1.9PD - one of the most reliable engines you can get. It's only 8 valve and has a DPF in the 4x4 and Scout but the DPF can be removed and it can easily be mapped to about 185bhp on a Stage 1 and more on a Stage 2. We had one for 14 years and it was pretty much bulletproof apart from needing a turbo to intercoooler hose every 7 years.

Yep GE14s for a mkii estate and I fitted and removed mine roadside using the scissor jack that came with the car and axle stands. Given they were on the car for so long they are in surprisingly good condition. One looks like new and the other just has a couple of cracks at the thin edges. Insurance-wise I didn't but the car was insured for other non-standard changes.

If you like under the back of the car you can probably measure the resting gap between the coils. I'm pretty certain the ones on my mkii were GE14s but I'll try and find them in the garage to check. Edit... The gap Grayston quote is with the car jacked up and the wheel off the ground

Possibly the slightest amount (I can't remember what the difference in wheel centre to wheel arch measurement was) but not really discernible and I didn't need to adjust the headlights so it can't have been anything worth bothering about.

I fitted them midpoint on both sides but made sure they were not contacting anything else.

They usually affect just over one coil maybe 1.5 coils tops. And they do not make the coil uncompressible as they are rubber and therefore do compress themselves. In terms of stiffness they probably add about 10% to 12%. My take on the wording is temporary as most people do not tow on every journey and because they can be fitted and removed relatively easily and do not constitute a more permanent change like stiffer springs ormad helper springs would.

I would suggest taking the reflector out first and then try refitting the bumper part as you may find the reflector is obstructing the clips

What a load of codswallop... We has spring assitors on the back or our mkii Octavia 4x4 Estate for 13 years with no problems and no broken springs. Tbey firmed the back end up nicely and made a big difference to stability and clearance when usi g a tow bar mounted bike rack with four bikes on it. For the money they cost they were great and I'd recommend them.

Tbh you'll have no chance rejecting a car for a rattle and the lumber handle coming off One is already fixed and the other will just ba case of finding whatever is loose and cable tying it up. Sorry to make little of your issues but it does make me laugh when people talk about rejecting a vehicle for those sorts of reasons. Chances are the rattle is a five minute fix but the dealer can't be bothered.

That's useful to know as ours was a used purchase and didn't have one fitted or the prep from new but I need one for bike duties etc. Do you mind me asking specifics about who fitted it and whether they had any issues / caused any damage etc.? Cheers

OK so thread revival... Eldest will hopefully be off to uni to do physics with astrophysics in a few months. They have all the gear but she's after a laptop anyway so I've been thinking about HP or Lenovo win11 home based min 8gb ram and 256 0r 512gb ssd and 14 inch screen. Any thoughts? Am I over or under cooking it? Any good deals out there (Lenovo looking favourite at the moment.

Interesting... I've driven lots of autos and never liked them as I feel out of control in one. The same goes for autonomy... No the thought fills me with dread. I have active cruise on the Swift and it is good but that's as far as I'll go at this stage. I can see how it might appeal to others but not me.

This could be an interesting thread... I went shopping the other day to Chesterfield from Sheffield (easier to get to the retail park there from where I live) and we took the Swift as we're trying to use the kodiaq as little as possible given the cost of fuel. As we headed off I actually said to SWMBO that with me now working from home most days and not out on site much we could probably manage with a small EV and she agreed. However I do love the Swift's offbeat triple thrum, it's hybrid torque and nippiness and it's great handling so even if we could manage I don't think I'm quite there yet... but I'm certainly moving closer than I've ever been before. What I will struggle with is the sense of connection, the skill involved in manual gear changes and that feeling of lightness you only get with something like the Swift or MX5. I absolutely hate the thought of nearly 2 tonnes or more of car... It goes against my efficient engineering mantra. Oh and just for the record the Swift did there and back at over 70mpg...

Have you checked the engine and gearbox mounts?

Added to that a lot of people don't buy new or buy pre-registered or in stock cars meaning they cannot specify tow bar prep.

I disagree re the ACT... Our kicks in pretty regularly.

1991 Mitsubishi Colt 1.5 GLX. I bought it from new and added a few extras like dark blue metallic paint, a sunroof, multi spoke alloy wheels and a better radio and then did well over 113k miles over 10 years in it. In all that time the only non-service or non-consumable issue with it was a cracked exhaust manifold that was fixed using a second hand part off a Proton that cost £12. I also enjoyed the fact that it was comfy, had decent sports style seats and was different and a bit quirky compared to the run of the mill ford's and the like I could have had. OK it wasn't the Corolla GTI or Civic CRX I wanted but couldn't find or afford but it was still a great car.
