  1. Surely there wont be more than one manufacturer of these so they will all be as poor. it seems to me that the image could perhaps be stabilized by dripping some clear paint lacquer over the image in the lens. i don't know if the image is on the front or inside so try both? If the image is on the inside then i assume heat destroys them, if outside well jet washing though then all of mine would have deteriorated. This will involve dismantling to some degree of course but possible worthwhile.
  2. I didn't think the bcm monitored these, i have had some shorted (with an over sized led bulb in the original lamp) some left off for days and never had any warning.?
  3. The odd thing is that if you want to update your firmware you will not find one without VIM enabled.(Well I could not)
  4. Yes they are lovely when new but over time the image breaks up and becomes a blurry mess. Last year i changed to the ones that say "superb" instead of the skoda emblem and the drivers door one is already feint, becoming a round light with superb just readable. shame
  5. I have not ever looked at the amp but if i recall from previous posts it is all done with the cars loom and the rns 510 controls when it is on or off automatically. Good idea though
  6. Me too, though there is a thread somewhere that suggests that if you disconnect the power to the amp for a while it will on powering up come on as normal without any "signal" from the rns510. of course that begs the question - is it then permanently on? is the output from the extrons configurable to be line voltage only (not amped) and would a different loom adapter be required?
  7. Anywhere on the engine will do, i think he put it on a bolt securing the radiator thermostat. There must be an earthing strap missing, I have searched under the car when i changed the dsg oil and did not find one.
  8. there is an old post somewhere here that details what size sd card will work with which columbus part number. I have used 32gb in my 2012 car but as i stream through bluetooth i have not investigated bigger.
  9. no usb sockets, plenty of cigarette lighter sockets to put an adapter in. The columbus can be connected to rear screens at a cost , i do not know if that is true of amunsden, either way I think you will get twin screen standalone - headrest mounted players for less.
  10. Anywhere on the engine will do, i think he put it on a bolt securing the radiator thermostat.
  11. self parking will wear tyres more. My tyre pressures are significantly more than the fuel cap detail recommends for each load situation in order to keep a consistent wear across the tyre.
  12. check fuses in the engine bay fuse box. look for water ingress there too.
  13. Agreed. the pre defined areas that can illuminate are visible.
  14. I doubt they would have manufactured two different units with mph or kph so it may display mph when fitted. though stranger things have happened.
  15. I think there was a previous post with a picture of all the different configurations with the corresponding identification letter.
  16. Different journey types put different strains. eg. I do lots and lots of short journeys and the car wanted a service every 8 months, changed to fixed and do it at 12 months but i am potentially doing harm. i suspect soot levels in the oil but i am no expert.
  17. Do you mean how do you open the thin aluminium case covering the bulbs in the tailgate lights? if so you have to prise it off the four lugs of the clear lens. I am unclear what is "the centre bulb" sorry
  18. it is also possible that the mechanical height adjustment is too low as set at the factory, seems to be the case with my 2012 and there were a few threads on this years back. It is something i have got used to and have never got round to correcting.
  19. the tailgate lamps pull out from one side the same as the footwell lamps. they are held in with sprung loaded clips. On the estate with the sunroof the two rear passenger lamps though bigger employ the same spring clip method but are much stronger and seem to have an internal metal trim the lamp fits through perhaps to give the headlining more strength? removing both of those lamps on mine was very difficult and has resulted in them being a looser fit. It may be possible to remove just the clear lens by inserting a flat tool in the centre top and prising it out however trying to get the festoon bulb in its contacts would be beyond fiddly.
  20. or get a data logging bluetooth clamp meter like this https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07Q6HJRYR/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 only £45 and not 6000 counts but sufficient for your needs
  21. I have only ever seen 400k described as daylight white and personally agree with that, 2900k is orange/warm white light you get from incandescent bulbs for example. I suspect the label against 4000k should say daylight not warm.?
