  • Popped to the garage at lunchtime to swap coolant temp sensor. I don't think it's the problem but it can't hurt. Going to swap O2 sensor later for the spare I have. Went well, all sorted in 5 mins. T

That's good mileage, how old is the car?

its an x reg, 2000. 1.9 tdi i'm the second owner from new & believe it or not the car had sat on my aunt's front garden since 2005, when i got it it had 228331 on the clock (ex taxi) ive had it on the road for 5 months. it returns around 62 on a run & between 38-43 i think around town, best part about it it was a freebie.

went to lydden hill today to watch rally cross, there were some very fast cars there, for me gronholm stole the show, the rs 200 was tasty aswell.

the rs 200 was tasty aswell.

OT but:

That takes me back to '85/'86 when I won a car club raffle of a test drive in the RS200 around the Boreham test track (where the rally sport department was based), the car I should of drove had gearbox problems so I went out in (IIRC Stuart Turner's?) LHD development road car pushing out well over 500BHP with dog box and ceramic clutch (all or nothing - no way to slip it) so it was 5k rpm off the mark, 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear went to the limiter in a flash, then it suddenly dawned on me... F**K ME how fast are we travelling!!! an awesome beast of a car

We then saw round the 'factory' of rally cars until we came to a black 3dr Cossie with a pin stripe and some black electrical tape on the front wings, I asked " so what's the RS500 all about then?" Stuart Turner(?) was a bit taken aback by this young 18yr old asking such a question, he tried to deny he knew what I was on about until I pointed out that I had peeled off the black electrical tape covering the "RS500" decals :giggle:

The car had yet to announced to the press so we were unable to drive it emoticon-0106-crying.gif

BUT we had a "4 up' few laps in the car with no other than the late great Pentti (Airikkala) behind the wheel - god he could drive the thing

Over the weekend I've bought all the rest of the bits I need for the Bolero project.

Tested the Bolero in situ and it works fine (Don't have the balls to leave it in due to the battery drain issues... and I don't have immediate access to VCDS so can't check my current gateway, though there's a good chance that it'll be an old one due to the age of the car)

Just need: -

CAN Gateway (should be delivered today)

Aerial adapter (coming from Poland)

Trim Removal tool

Next project: - LED interior lights and boot lights :D

I washed mine yesterday, looks so much better for a clean!

in the last coupla weeks my 2000 reg 1.9tdi glx with 160k on the clock has got

2 rear shocks

rear shoes

spring kits for shoes

rear cyclinders

master cyclinders (all the brakes were replaceed cause the last ass in there never put the pins that hold the shoes in place in)

oil and filter

fuse removed to get dash clocks going.

to be fitted

front shocks need to get a spanner for top of shock and more something to get the shock out of the hub

at 150 k it got front disks and pads (pads fell apart after they got hot a coupla times) just proves drivin slow isn't always a good thing lol pads were only 20% wore but were useless

it now requires windoww regulators for both fronts and 1 rear

gearbox oil change

oh and a tcut where some clown washed it with sandpaper

Lots of activity on mine today...

Booked it in for oil/filter change.

Ordered new clips for the bumper as it's currently hanging off.

Ripped even more of my LCR screws out on a speedbump

And last but not least, for the 2nd time this week, bounced my sump off a dip in the road that i forgot about :( Just a matter of time...so out with the C Spanner when it's getting it's oil change !!

Might even treat it to a wash seeing as it's not had one in 2 months.

Oh, and it ticked onto 70k :)

Grab Trev's sump guard Johnny! Or are you FMIC'd on this one? Can't remember :S

Yes Rob - higher.... higher!

Have just got back from a few days away covering over 750miles which is normally around 1 1/2months of driving. Returned 53mpg over the time away

The Kuhmo's are scrubbing in nicely, still really quiet and getting much grippier  , found that the rattle in the front passenger door wasn't fixed and now it rattles more than it did previously :'( also noticed the coolant level dropping from Max to Min in a little over 200miles of 65-70mph motorway driving.

Just need to wash & give it some TLC now although that wont happen for another week or two as it has a few trips to the tip with the old bathroom suite & tiles over the next 2 weeks

Oh, it turned over 70k whilst away, luckly the service is booked for a couple of weeks time

Yep, i've got the Seat FMIC on mine :(

It had crossed my mind, but it's better to raise it a little. (handles better a little higher than at present too)

I got bored of constantly driving everywhere at 60mph to get nearly 80mpg over the last three tankfuls and 2000 miles!

So I got to work a bit quicker today!

In which one though ? lol

In which one though ? lol

Never ever get bored of the VRS. B)

The GL2 is a great car, but because of the nature of it I've become obsessed with mpg.

Suppose that's its raison d'etre, after all. Those are bloody impressive figures nonetheless - good to know it's capable, if you exercise enough self-restraint :)

Washed and hovered mine this afternoon,

Better do the other one tomorrow.

Did the other one this afternoon

Launched the bikes in the back and went for a cycle ride....

Davy

Spent nearly all day cleaning the fecker for tomorrow, so if it rains tonight I'll be well p i s s e d :'(

You at Trax tomorrow Bry? Hence the cleaning session?
