What was your first car?

This was my first car. Skoda 105s, bought for £365 including a years tax and test, back in 1986. One of the first Estelles in the country. Never let me down to the point where it wouldnt get me home. It was a bit basic when i bought it, no reclining seats, no radio, no inertia seat belts, no power and no road holding with the swing axles and 145x14 barum tyres. Having said this, i kept The Custard Cruiser (as mum called it) for over 2 years, modifying it a lot. Would go as far as saying it was the best car i have ever owned

1978 Chrysler Horizon 1500 GLS, in bright green. Bought for me by my dad so I wouldn't take my mum's car to University in 1985!!

I kept it for about 6 months before selling it and buying myself a 1976 BMW 320i (which at the time cost me a horrendous £700 to insure!!)

  • 4 weeks later...

Mine was an 1982 x reg ford fiesta popular with thin wheels and a 950cc engine it was crap and couldnt get over the fact that it used to do 20 miles to the gallon

I changed the carbs had it tuned and it was still crap on fuel :) in the end a farmer bought it for £350 i paid £450 for it and it cost me £445 for insurance (third party fire and theft) for my first time insured.

Never forget it, I nearly tipped it over going round a bend too fast

Technically a TR7 convertible. Bought it as a project car when I was 16, but as you'd expect it was mostly rust and the floorpan leaked. The work required was too extensive for me to have a crack at so it got sold.

My first car .... wait for it.

D-reg Rover 216se. :wall:

I know, I know, but I was 16 and my folks were on at me to keep it below 1.6 and something "safe". To be fair I thrashed that car day in, day out for over a year and it never once broke on me, nor did it drop any oil. I suppose I got lucky? I don't miss it, but I am grateful to it.

Wolesley 1500. Possibly one of the early ones as it was about ten years old when I got it in approx 1967 .Proud owner at approx 20, so I'm possibly one of the more aged posters on here .

X reg Ford Granada estate, 2.8 V6 GL auto. It was about 9 years old and it lasted three more before I sold it.

Good car, bit heavy on fuel for going to college at 17 years old though.

Has anyone noticed that this thread was started way back in December 2004 ! :o

I've answered the question many times on threads like this, even stating what my dad's first car was too.

BTW, for the record, it was a 1981 (w reg), Austin miniMetro 1.0 base model in Vermilion Red. I was given it by my Granddad when I passed my test in January 1997. I owned it until it went to Metro heaven in Aug 2006.

1978 Hilman Avenger, after a few Motorbikes, which I wish I still had, have youn seen the price of a Kawasaki S1,250. The Car I always wanted was a Bond Bug, never got one started courting needed comfort and room.

1972 Ford Escort 1100 estate in Sebring Red. Great mechanically, though seriously lacking in oomph compared to my mates' cars, and riddled with rust. Had it three years before having to scrap it.
