Whoops :)

Octavia vRS anyone, £13,995. With remap just as quick.

This is the same Gti that's been given "Car of the year" awards all over the place, right?

VW Quality Control strikes again :D

yep the mark 5 gti lol m8 showed me it god the seats are horrible!

At least the VW owners with more money than sense get to iron out all the problems with the engine before Skoda get hold of it and put it in a decent car :D

You obviously don't know my car very well, still i'll forgive you this time. :D

And yes before you ask, with all the mods it's still cheeper.

That makes a refreshing change.

Del...

Don't know your car mate, but I was talking about standard (albeit remapped) vRS vs standard GTi...

The new suspension set-up is meant to be the business!

Just wait till people start tuning these... They're going to rule, big time (although you'd have to be roccafella to mess about with one!).

Just because it's not a Skoda, and because it's stupidly priced, don't knock them...

I know if I'd got the money, I'd have one without a doubt.

The fact that it IS stupidly priced is a good reason to knock it.

20K for a base-spec Golf Gti ?

I think not.

And yes before you ask' date=' with all the mods it's still cheeper.[/quote']

...and its still not half the car the New Golf GTi is...

;)

(with apologies to sniffpetrol :) )

Hmmmm, as opposed to buying an already flawed car in a different shell suit, downgrading the interior quality and claiming its somehow 'better'?

Irrespective of mods, you'd be doing pretty well to make an Octavia VRS handle better than a Golf GTi.

How is the Octavia flawed?

Oh dear, hit a raw nerve have i ?

Are you a Gti owner by any chance? Have you blown a stupid amount of cash on a car with a dodgy timing belt? :hilarius:

Or are you simply the owner of a lesser VW model who sits night after night drooling over a picture of the new Gti wishing he had such a "great" car ?

;)

Not at all, I was just trying to nip yours. Whos just wasted 5 minutes of his time editing a Sniffpetrol.com picture?

No' date=' i'm not a GTi owner. In fact I had a sizable deposit waiting to go on one though, but due to the fact no one will insure me (under 21) the idea's kind of fell flat. I did consider a VRS but i'm now buying a Corrado as I wanted a FWD car that could actually handle and give some decent kind of driver feedback.

Err...yes! Got a problem with it? :D

I'll wait until december next year when they have 'ironed' out the timing belt issue and stick that engine in the Octavia and sell if for alot less ;)

Might I suggest you contain your exuberance for a VW badged car and lording them up until you actually have driven the models you crave and are able to compare it to its marque stable mates.

As the Octy is based on the Golf (old or new doesnt matter) are you saying that the old Golf GTI was crap just because there is a newer version out (considering the Octy is based on the Golf, so vRS likewise with a GTI)?

Some would say the best Golf GTI was the original, and there have been 4 reivions now since.

Having always been a VW man for cars, I would suggest you allow a little more open-mindedness on the badges seeing as they are all the same component wise, and if you think the Corrado is a better drivers car than the VRS then go ahead, but then isnt that based on the even older previous GTI which must mean its even more crap than the crappy mk4 Golf (going by your logic of course  )

Might I suggest that actually, there isnt any major differences between the VW group cars full stop, apart from the opbvious body differences, badge and subtly suspension differences that we all know can be messed with anyway.

Obviously VW feel that like you there are plenty more people prepared to pay £20k for what is basically a family hatch with a three-lettered badge.

I only deal in facts and here are the facts.

I have a friend who works at VW (Aylesford), he's a salesman.

I HAVE driven the GTi.

It is a good car but is grossly over priced.

Yes it does go around bends but at speed it wallows and understeers.

Then we went out in my lowly RS which my m8 had to agree out performed it in EVERY department. Including the conveniently glossed over price even with all the mods.

20K don't forget is without DSG.

You see with all the hype I wanted one of these, that is untill I was told the price and drove it. That is what badges like this (GTi) are all about, hype.

Some people still don't get it. :thumbdwn:

Ooops sorry Andy, didn't read your last post. :o

BTW chaps try and keep this to a debate and not personal insults.

It's better because of price.

As for your second comment you obviously haven't been on track in a fettled RS have you. :D

Aha! So that's why my Furby is a vRS!

The old Golf GTi was pretty mellow anyway (aside from the 25th Annversary models which they bothered to make an effort with. I'm saying the although Octavia is based on the MK4 Golf that hardly does it any justice. As that chassis/handling characteristics have been criticised on EVERY model its based on. The only car I felt they ever got it nearly right on was the S3.

Some would say the best Golf GTI was the original, and there have been 4 reivions now since.)?.

It probably was, but considering there value and status if you've got a 1/2 decent one they're probably better off spending more time in your Garage and taking out as a weekend car. In todays world the MK5 GTi has hit the nail on the head with what a Hot hatch should be, which is exactly what the original one did, it doesn't neccessarily have to have the same values as the one built 25 years ago.

I think this is he problem, the unblinkered and unwaving loyalty to Skoda on this site (which you are fairly well rediculed for, not by me, but I can understand what they say). If a car from the same group is cheaper, it does not mean it is;

A) Better value for money

B) Better to drive

C) Generally a better package

Its funny how you assume my logic is that I hate older cars (as that must be the reason I don't like the Octavia, being so 'old' and all), or that I'm some kind of 'Old Skool' VW troll just trying to wind you up because i've got a soft spot for the Corrado. Quite how a post lamenting the narrow views of Skoda owners gets translated into: "You think you're better than us just because you don't own a Skoda...' I all find rather sad.

Might I suggest that actually, there isnt any major differences between the VW group cars full stop, apart from the opbvious body differences, badge and subtly suspension differences that we all know can be messed with anyway..

Paying a small premium for Volkswagens? Forget it. I'm done with that ****! Why should I line the wallets of evil corporate devils like the Volkswagen Group when I could buy a Skoda? After all, their product and development just falls out of the sky doesn't it? Volkswagen doesn't have to work hard to produce, manufacture, packag, distribute and sell it. Naah, of course not, Skoda do that all themselves, they did invent DSG and the 1.8T after all. Certainly I work for free, never earn a penny, I just come on here like some kind of Loadsamoney sneering at you skint proles. Shut your mouth and look at my wad etc. Volkswagen Group, the greedy Sods! Thats why I bought a Skoda...

You may suggest it, you'd be right, but in a narrow minded sort of way. Again, your pressuming I hate Skodas. Which I don't.

Oh dear, the Golf GTI has a recall.

It seems you may have forgot the days when all your wonderfully engineered Octavia vRSs broke down when the coilpacks went. :p
