Mine was sorted on Monday, having been diagnosed the previous Tuesday. That's 4 working days.

West End Garage in Broxburn are clearly awesome!

Wishing everyone else best of luck with their cases.

Reasonable result, in the end ...

Skoda UK appeared to be just stalling - the said they needed a fault code from the dealer, but it turns out the dealer send it to them weeks ago. When I forced the issue (got the dealer to re-send the code with me standing there, Vindis Skoda Cambridge being super-helpful there, nice going lads), Skoda UK actually received it. They offered 50% of the cost, so I pay £606. I said "Hey, I can get this fixed for £550 using ECU Testing Ltd. and then pursue the dealer for compensation through the courts, why the hell would I accept a goodwill offer of paying £606? You gave Niall 100%!" They then came back at 70%, so I pay £363. I'm going to take this, because I've had enough grief. So updated table:

Good luck to everyone else ... happy to share any other info if that would help. My #1 top tip is: even though you might have to threaten to take the dealer to court (I bought the car from my local dealer, so I have legal rights etc.), never tell them that - it just annoys them and they then won't help. You have to tell Skoda UK that you're going to take the dealer to court, to keep them focussed on a good outcome, but keep the dealer sweet by playing the injured puppy when you're talking to them. Bit of a mistake I made, there - my dealer hates me at the moment, coz I went in a bit heavy :o

I've not had this problem (yet) but just a thought for anyone having issues:

If you paid for part of your car (even just the deposit) by CREDIT CARD your card issuer is equally liable for any problems.

You can try to make a Section 75 claim through your credit card company.

This is often a lot easier than going through retailers/manufacturers.

Quick update:

After 6 weeks of haggling and arguing with Skoda UK and threatening to take them to court I finally got 100% contribution for parts & labour. The unit was replaced last week. I think it it is also fair to say that my dealer helped as much as they could when dealing with Skoda UK.

It started off with 0%, then after 1 week 35% parts, then 50% parts /35% labor, then 80% parts / 45% labor and finally 100%. (The initial quote was for over £1740.00!)

So happy in the end but it did require a lot of perseverance. My advice to anybody, don't give up keep going and phone Skoda UK back every week. :dull:

Hi Snowie here. Number 17 on the list. Just been offered 100% parts and 50% labour from Skoda. However, dealer can't tell me what the labour costs will be. (Hmm!!!!!)

Anyone got an idea of how the costs to repair this breaks down. I.E. How much (roughly) will I pay?

Cheers

Update.

Sorry folk....just read Bev Elliots article in the Sunday Post. Looks like 50% labour is around £67.

Good luck to all those still trying.

Yes, the latest Octavias still appear to be using the MK60. The question is really whether the part which causes the early failure (the G201 thin-film pressure sensor) has been modified or upgraded. I would be very surprised if Continental-Teves (who supply the part to VAG and a number of other brands) haven't picked up on the problem and modified the part.

I asked whether the part had been changed/modified when mine was replaced in May this year. All the dealer was able to confirm was that "the part number had changed".

Has anyone tried contacting Continental Teves to ask about whether a different part is now being used? I tried ringing a number in the UK but the guy I asked didn't know and said to contact Germany. I tried the German number but it didn't work.

I found all these numbers and e-mail address's (link below) for Germany but I found another UK number I'll try.

Consider ourselves lucky to have the part fail within warranty - dealer said he was aware of it being a common problem and tols me that cars out of warranty would be fixed f.o.c. I did tell him that not everyone is getting the same response (and in our case he didn't have to prove it!). We also requested that we get some documentation to indicate that the woek has been done and the parts replaced.

Wifes 55plate 1 series BMW failed on the same part 2 weeks prior. Even though it was not supplied by a BMW dealer they still supplied the part free (an hour to make that offer on the phone on a Saturday morning) and only charged £275 to fit it. The Octavia was a dealer supplied used car with full Skoda service history and only 3 weeks out of the approved used warranty it took a further 2 weeks to get an offer of 30% that was "not negotiable" BBA REMAN said they would not exchange the part with the G201 fault so no choice but to pay really.

I'm not disputing the fact that your car has failed it's MOT because of this failure but the ESP can be turned off by the driver so I don't see how this can cause a MOT failure. You can drive with it on or off, the choice is yours

It's a bit like having a bald spare tyre in the boot which will fail an MOT but no spare wheel won't

Which warning light is on? ESP is not within the remit of the MoT at the moment.

Xyster has a separate topic on this, it seems that the garage read the fault codes from the car and decided that because the fault code showed an ABS sensor, they've failed it due to the ABS not working even though it's the ESP that's not available. At least that's the way I read it.
