PD130 engine into an SDI - on ebay!

Featured Replies

JUST PUT "4526211119" in ebay search, edited to prevent hyperlink trace. :)

Can this be right? It looks right and I guess the garage used must have got around the problems of putting a quick PD130 block into a car setup for an SDI... Also, "3000" miles... an X reg SDI? I should think a lot of the car has travelled a wee bit further ;)

I hope he buys himself a dictionary with the proceeds from the sale :D I wonder what the insurance would be like on that, not cheap I imagine.

I rekon its nicked....

very very very fishy

Dodgy.....

I am suspicious for sure. Dodgy feedback rating. :D

Hmnm vRS with different plates me thinks.

Oh and BTW a Golf turbo doesnt fit into a Fabia, the outlet points the wrong way, easy enuff to mod but not many people know that.

He is also selling lots of random high value car parts at very low prices, well dodgy IMO.

Has it been re-sprayed diamond (diamond? lol... I meant that regular Fabia yellow ) yellow too? Would be interesting to see what the FSH and V5 says.

Edit: Can someone with a genuine yellow vRS post an engine shot, and a SDI owner do the same.... The more I see the engine shot of the TDI engine in place the more I concur with the above that it IS a vRS...

It's nicked obviously, I may play mr hero and report to the police just incase as it seems too dodgy...

someone plumb the plate into one of those online registration checkers to see what the details are of it. Would probably be worth it.

I feel like I've stumbled on to a crime scene now.

How bizarre! And if it was 1st registered in Jan 2001, how exactly is the MOT due in October??

Steve

Probably the same way my car was registered in December and the MOT is in April, the previous owner forgot to re-new

Well, MOTs can be done at any time of year - someone may have done one in jan 04, then instead of waiting until Jan 05, got it done 3 months earlier, probably to allow it to be sold on with "full MOT" - that in itself is suspicious too... Could this be the time of the mysterious vRS disappearance?

If this is a re-sprayed vRS, then its a good job as the paint in the engine bay is the same for all the little gaps... I'm waiting for a reply to a question I sent regarding the conversion. I shall wait to see what comes out of that.

As a start, what on that car would be difficult to setup? I'm thinking front foglights on an SDI that very likely came with none. Would a "front fogs mod" then involve major wiring loom work, and installation of a new switch and everything? No vRS mad SDI owner would bother with that surely.

Any other classic things that this "vRS" has that wouldn't be possible (or very tough) given an SDI was the starting point? A couple of things that might be pointers?

Is that a vRS handbrake?

Any components in the engine bay give a clue? (sticker with yellow triangles on the chassis front bit maybe?)

The rear plate appears to be stuck on on its own on the yellow paint. Does it normally have a surround or something? Clue its been in for a respray?

I know it could be done accurately, but the vRS grille badge looks a spot on match for where the factory positions that badge

Also, ROOF AERIAL! If its an SDI it will unscrew entirely. A vRS genuine one will only fold down... Who's gonna ask the owner to detach the roof aerial then? :D:rofl:

Sherlock signing out. :)

What about ABS and air con if it is an SDI classic would it have them?? (assuming it was an SDI and classic spec :D )

Both plates have a space on the left side which make them look very non standard...

IMHO the effort and money needed to turn an SDi into a vRS clone wouldn't make it worthwhile... and if you did manage it, why then chuck it on eBay when it only has 3k miles on the clock?

If it were any more fishy the sea gulls would be circling :D Looks like a nicked vRS.

The shiny black bit of the engine cover doesn't seem to fit properly to my eye. this is what it *should* look like........

g600_06.jpg

The license plate belongs on a Fabia SDI according to one of the insurance databases.

But would a car that has been so heavily modified still be listed as an SDI?

Distinct odour of rotting mackerel about it.

By the sellers own admission "got some marks around the door".......

Can you spell "crowbar/slimjim"?

The atrocious spelling suggests it's part of a scam - well known net scam trick to give the impression the seller is too stupid to rip you off.

If it was 100% above board, even operating as a sole trader as this person seems to be, you would at least run a spell check on your ads..........

"calling Officer Dibble........." :D

Yes I would say its stolen or seriously dodgy, anyone reported it yet?

I love it when threads go all 'Quincy' :)

Dave.

Forgot to add, it would be a good idea for no one to click on the hyperlink to the auction, the guy is running a hit-counter so he'll know where the click-thru's are coming from (this thread). The original hyperlink needs editing so it can't be clicked on (just turn the http bit to hxxp ).

Dave.

I've edited my link to just say search for 4526211119 on ebay search instead of following my link I had in post #1.

Personally, I've not had any replies to my email yet. :D

Edit: I have now received a reply to my enquiry about the conversion... I got a "no probs at all pal" reply. Obviously VERY enthusiastic about the conversion to double the BHP.

I have replied saying thanks, and asked what sort of roof aerial it has. LOL

Who would you report it to, and how? It's not like I can ring 999 and say "right - there's this ad on ebay I want you to check out" :)

Do the police have a tip-off email address? ;)

  • Author

Well, I have the email addy of the seller, but its a hotmail one, which is convenient. :D

That is one very thorough conversion ;) Even down to the vRS seats, body colour coding, fog lamps, spoilers, wheels, exhaust, steering wheel, chrome trim on handbrake, etc!

Chris

Looks like a genuine vRS with an SDi's documentation and plates. And photo taken in a pub car park? Definately dodgy.

Had a quick look on dvla dbase at work, comes out as yellow SDI registered 16/01/2001.

Very strange this, who on earth would buy a car in such dodgy circumstances

you aint seen me, right!
