Best PC game of all time

Featured Replies

For me,the original Tomb raider.Changed my life and was totally obsessed with it.

Despite dodgy graphics I have never found a game as good and still find it enjoyable now.

None of the sequels have come anywhere near(all pants) and none of the other hyped up games over the last 8/9 years have beaten it.Most are like a so called good book that turns into an empty read and over far to quickly

Too many copy cat versions now but it was still the ground breaker for me :D

But if I had to pick right now...possibly Total Annihilation (modded v lots of teamed CPUs for the ultimate mental workout) or HL1

Elite is probably in with a chance.

Thats the one I spent most time on.

i deeply loved my viper mk2.. with class 2 military drive, 5mw beam lazer and a couple of shield generators :D

other games of note.... carmageddon... the first game with upgrades and a half decent physics engine.

Mafia... Max Payne 2.. HL2.. the Unreal/tournament series :D

YES!!! TA rocks.

Closely followed by the Jedi Knight II/Academy games.

Incidentally, which mods you run on TA? I'm a sucker for the TAUCP mod pack. Aweseome megabots...... :D

Fancy a match sometime? ;)

For me, its either Far Cry or Half Life 2... but I have a soft spot for the original Quake too.

Remember playing Elite on my Commodore 64 back in 1985, and even before that on, I think, a Spectrum.

The first essential to buy was the docking computer!

I played it on a friend's Beeb B then my C64 and Amiga.

Who knows , Elite 4 might eventually arrive

Jono

Operation Flashpoint

Still perfectly playable today but the graphics are naturally a bit :uglyhamme

Pong for me.....

Max Payne for me and Medal of Honour, Ghost Recon, Colin McCrae

The only reasonably modern game I've truly got into is Deus Ex, although I'm happy to see a lot of my old favourites being remade!

mods's on TA...well I recall having a passion for tomcat and helo's and other such wizzardy...it might be TAUCP, not sure..one with some little generators that developed insane amounts of energy yet cost nothing to build. It's erm 3 years I rckon since I've seen a TA commander blow up from a berta hit :)

Oh and a dab hand in birtha mass production just to prolong the battle :)

Original AI did lack somewhat...we spent days playing that...

One ot add...harrier attack on the Ti64 :)

if that's a pc...dang it ain't.

Anyone remember Dizzy the egg? Available on PC or Amiga back in 1986 it was pure class!!!

Of modern games the only one I've got into at all is GTA, both the original 2D ones and the new ones.

Has to be Half Life for me - amazing game.

TAUCP has two AI tweaks, with three levels on each AI........

Banzai AI makes it almost unwinnable.........

One Word: KARGENETH.

Takes about 30mins to build, but damn.......7 direct hits with a light missiles and even a few nukes can't take it out.........Reduces a Commander to dust within a few seconds........more precise than a Bertha......... :D

I'd offer you a lunchtime match (play most lunchtimes) but we go off the main network here to get away with it........

Recently discovered Need For Speed Underground.........no secret Skoda models as yet..........

I also loved the Dizzy series, especially Spellbound dizzy, but i have an emulator and played them recently and its just not the same.

At the moment and for the last year or so its been call of duty for me, graphics, gameplay, its got everything

Joey Deacon Speedway on the Sinclair Spectrum so un politically correct.

Too many to remember, Shining Force 3 on Sega Saturn, Flight Simulator 98 on PC (fly anywhere in the world?!?!), Grand Prix Legends, in original 1998 form and with all the updates available, awesome driving sim, Tony Hawks Pro Skater on PSone, can't remember how many hours I spent playing it and the sequels, original still the best I reckon, Gran Turismo 1&2, many a night spent playing two-player races, great stuff. F-29 Retaliator on Amiga, as well as Escape from the Planet of the Robot Monsters and the original Kick- Off, all played until they didn't work any more. Loads of other older games on Amstrad, Commodore and Spectrum etc. but can't remember the names...

Where do you begin?

I would have to put Operation Flashpoint as one of my top games, just because it was a different type of game/idea

But the Last Ninja series on the C64 rocked.

Frontier (Elite 2) on the Amiga and the original Populous by Bullfrog on the Amiga were cool too.

And the Dizzy series on the C64 where cool. Oh and by far the best playable/graphical game for the C64 C.R.E.A.T.U.R.E.S. or Clyde Radcliffe Exterminates All The Unfriendly Repulsive Earth Ridden Slime. The torture screens were absolutely amazing.

Ah, the memories.

Plus I still have both my C64 and Amiga including games. I can feel a retro gaming weekend coming on!!!!!!!!
