How did you 'find skoda'?

Featured Replies

what was it that first brought your attention to skodas and made you want a furby or octaivia?? i knew the 130tdi engine was a stormer but always thought the seat was out of my price range. one day i was flickin threw the red line mag at work and saw a pic of ross clarks motor, this pic sold me on the idea of a furby and the very next week i was on to skoda bury ordering my black vrs. then whilst browsing the interweb i found briskoda and as they say the rest is history!!

your stories of how you found skoda would be good to hear!

Needed a replacement for my Mondeo - drove round all the dealers, basically looking for a V6 Mondeo, but they were very thin on the ground, (knew there was an Octavia with effectively a Golf GTI engine in it), mine was sat on the forecourt at what looked like an attractive price, nothing else had inspired all day. Booked a test drive, bought it. A mini adventure.

Only other thing I test drove was a Mitsubishi Galant (apart from a couple of Mondeos).

Was aware of the Octavia RS through the motoring press, and how they kept saying "this should be 4wd"....

Looked at RS, but as they did not do the estate then looked at 4x4turbo, did some research re tuning it, test drove a white one "to see what they were like" and bought that car... as the demonstrator was for sale...

I'd been looking for my next company car, and wanted something that was better on tax.

Then one day, one of our directors took me out, "to look at cars". We ended up at the local Skoda dealer, where they had two RS's in stock, plus a demonstrator, which we took for a spin.

We bought all three!

The rest, as they say, is history...

Was looking for a new car, liked the look of the Octavia RS. Did some research which led me to vwvortex forums (where we were before Briskoda was born) - here I met Tavia4x4, TaviaRS and others . Went for a test drive and bought the demonstrator.

A mate of mine had a Felicia - was well happy with his "Fiesta for the price of a cardboard box"

Then when my folks were looking for a new estate (they have had Sierras, Mondeos, a BX, a Tempra and a Vectra) they had all but signed on the dotted line at Ford when I convinced them to get down the skoda garage and saved them

Almost bought a yaris t-sport, went for test drives in it and almost did a deal but couldnt agree with the dealer on a good price (is it just me that thinks they are WAY overpriced!).

Decided to think about it and then on the way home i drove past the skoda garage and thought, hmm wasnt there a fabia on 5th gear beating a mini ;)

Took my vrs for a test drive (with 4000miles on clock) and bought it that day.

When the toyota dealer did a follow up i was out and mum told him i bought the furby :P I felt quite bad as i had been pestering him for weeks.

Jobs a gooden, cant believe i ever wanted a yaris!

I was looking for a car. The Fabia I brought (1.4 16v) was my first choice as It was the best car on sale at the time and I'd driven them and other Skodas before as I had worked in a dealer. I looked at other cars, but the Polo was

Looking for a new car for Jane. Had been rather swamped in their progress through the motoring press and wanted to see if it was true.Dragged her kicking and screaming through the gates to the garage. When she saw the fabia and sat in it we bought it.

I spent the next three years test driving an octy vRS that they had.Think they were getting bit bored with me doing that.As soon as I could get rid of my Audi I bought the Octy.Joy :D

I was in my final year at university, and looking to treat myself to a new car. Got a recent issue of Top Gear and looked at some awards, and the then current W plate 1.4 16V won supermini of the year 2000, so that's what first got my eye.

I rang up my local Skoda dealer, who had no 1.4 16vs in, but told me there was a PD100 TDI in the colour I wanted in the forecourt... I put a deposit down straight way (whilst still at uni) and the rest, as they say, is history. :D

My mum, infact my mum told me about briskoda!!

She has a friend that rated the octi highly, said they had no problems with it, where as my peugeot 206 was always in the garage. Look into it more and saw the Fabia vrs, had a test drive and the rest is as they say HISTORY

Found briskoda via another forum (can't remember which one), BIL bought an RS and I had a run in Panrix's (thanks!). I was hooked. It did take me a while to actually get hold of one, though.

my brother had the vw gti pd 150, and his gilfriend had the 130 pdi golf, i drove them both, thought the golf was way over priced so when i heard the fabia vrs had the same 130 pdi engine as the golf but a few grand cheaper i went straight to my skoda dealer and bought their demo car

Was looking for something to replace my old Mondeo - had to be able to seat 5 have a large boot and be safe for the kid. Almost got another new Mondeo but noticed that secondhand Octy RSs were just starting to come into my price range (under

I had known about Skoda as a brand for ages and despite the jokes always cheered on the rally team!!!

Saw the Octavia vRS 3 or so years ago and thought it looked pretty good and the rallying link gave it more credibility. My funds at the time didn't allow me to purchase one and I bought a Corsa 1.2 instead :D

Three years of a Corsa ownership (the car was in fact really quite good :o ) and appalling dealer service later I thought I sholud get a slightly quicker car.

I looked at the Golf GTi with a view to getting a 1 or 2 year old one. However they were tricky to find in the right colour and with the right mileage and so I started to consider more options...

The idea of a fast Skoda really began to appeal to me as they are a bit more individual than the Golf

I did a google search trying to find out more Octy info and found vrs-designs.co.uk and from there found a link to Briskoda  Which helped to convince me even more (so thanks everyone :) ). I booked a test drive (whole day!) and came back grinning :D

Ordered one there and then and picked it up less than 2 weeks later...

Best car I have owned and driven (so far)

Quite simply, I was sick of driving around in a Micra (who wouldnt be? :D) and I was going to get an Ibiza TDI Sport but then I saw the Furby, and thought it was better looking and had the same engine, and was

It's all Monkey Boys fault, or so the other half keeps telling him !!!

in all honesty though i hadnt even thought about the vRS until Paul got his... i look round it went for a blast and was hooked.

Had a 5 series BM, and was sick of not being able to get anything in the boot, large service bills (one was over

Used to have an Audi a4 Avant (Pd 115 BHP) as a company car. It got replaced with a car allowance.

The Skoda was on my shortlist as part of the VAG group. Fit & finish on the Octy II was better than my audi plus that big 140BHP diesel PD engine which rocks.

Didnt like the Octy I though - IMO it didnt feel as polished and was smaller. Until I saw the Octy II I was heading in the direction of a Passat highline estate (again with a big PD engine)

This board and local dealer help make my mind up - although the recent reported behaviour of skoda uk on this board makes me wonder about whether their commitment to customer service / buildingthe brand is slipping a bit.

We decided it was time to replace our aging Mitsubishi Colt and to upgrade size-wise a bit. I knew that the Octy's were getting good reviews and so we went to look at an Octy Hatch but the wife couldn't see out the back. We then decided that the estate might be better but none of the local dealers had one in stock. So I persuaded the wife to come to the motorshow with me so we could look at all the options in the one place instead of driving round the dealer. By that stage the 4x4 estate had come out and, given her daily commute over the Pennines it seemed like a good idea.

Anyhow, we got to the Motorshow and started doing the rounds and eventually finished up at the Skoda stand. Saw the Fabia estate and thought it was excellent - nice size and relly well screwed together with a good interior. We also saw the octy 4x4 estate and realised that it only came in 1.8turbo petrol, rather than diesel. Hence we finished up with a diesel Fab estate but had to wait from the motorshow in 2000 to March 2001 before we could get hold of one (I was regularly phoning dealers until eventually one of them had one in stock that we could test drive!)

Was looking for a fast estate to replace my Galant Sport, also something that wouldn't depreciate so quickly. I test drove various fast cars including the MG ZT-T (too expensive) not the Mondeo ST220 (no demonstrators available) and the Volvo V40 before reading an Auto Express which mentioned the Octy vRS.

I looked at the estate but couldn't believe the size of the boot on the hatch and decided that would be plenty.

I'm very pleased with it and apart from a slight rattle in the headlining have had no problems at all - would definitely buy again.

I was looking for a replacement for my BX17 D, the replacement for the BX was due in 6 months, but i needed something sooner rather that later.

Would not touch a Ford " take away "

VW Golf too expensive, and not enuff headroom for 2 growing boys, also chassis horrible.

Astra not enuff headroom or legroom in the rear.

Seat, nearly bought the Toledo, but due for replacement .

So went to local skoda dealer, sat in Octy 1.9TDI ( 90BHP ). and was offered keys to take for a drive immediately, well impressed with the new engine , build quality, rear head / leg room and WOW boot. as said above the R.I.H.

Now on 3rd Skoda.

Steve

I'm very pleased with it and apart from a slight rattle in the headlining

I've got one of them - ever found out whats needed to cure it?

I was aware of Skoda already but my interest was really caught when I saw a review of the Octy RS a while back.

I had a '96 Escort Ghia X up until January but it was on the way out - the plan was to try and keep it going for another year or so and then buy a 3 year old Octy vRS, by which time I'd be over 25 and my points would have cleared, but in the end it just had to go.

At the moment a vRS is out of the question - just too expensive to run as I do over average mileage and IIRC it's group 16. Well anyway, back in '97 I was driving an A4 1.9 TDI, and that was ace, so I thought if I can't have a vRS just now why not look at getting a diesel instead? It had to be the 110bhp variant though, and it took a bit of finding - it seems that second hand 3 or 4 year old Elegance TDI's are a bit thin on the ground. I found one in Sheffield though at a Skoda main dealer, went for a test drive and the rest is history.

I found Briskoda.net doing a search on something like 'Octavia engine cover' I think it was.

I had my Renault Clio and was very disappointed with the regularity at which it kept going wrong. Plus how noisy it got when going at speeds, oh and the fuel bill, and at 1.2 16v I thought it would be ok.

So, I looked for a car which was smooth to drive, wont depriciate that much, was a bit bigger, good reliablity and was diesel.

A VW matched all those but even a basic Polo was expensive. Then I thought back to a car I'd been given once when Clio had broken down, it was a 1.4 16v Fabia Estate. I really liked it too.

So trip to my local Skoda dealer to see what was available, saw my 51 100Pdi there.

Google gave this site for me, so the metatags do work. Asked a few basic questions and decided that the Fabia was the car for me. Chopped in my 03 reg Clio for this 51 reg Fabia, and it's been brilliant on fuel, about 1000 miles on
