The Twins. (And Yeti RS)

Featured Replies

I've got a set of Annapurnas with some small marks at work if you want them for winter wheels.

Probably ideal.. and cheaper.

Yes I would be very interested in them.

I'll check and let you know.

thanks. Wondering if they managed an OE setup of some sort or an aftermarket setup. Not sure what, if anything on the mk5 platform runs a factory oil cooler tbh.

They all seem to use a water-oil heat exchanger as standard.

So you have to plumb in an external one, fortunately the oil filter is right at the top of the engine and fairly easy to access.

Pic and info next week some time...

that's true, its easily accessible at least. Look forward to seeing what's been achieved. :)

While popping up to Jabbasport to check on the Citigo I also got them to make me an oil coller.

Luke did a top job as usual using a sandwich plate mount and a Mocal cooler.

It sits nice and high, so gets a nice feed through the grill and isn't really in front of much of the radiator/intercooler.

Crusing temp is now+94c instead of +102c.

And when you give it some beans it certainly returns to normal much faster.

Just need an F1 mechanic with access to Google to sign it off and you're good to go ;):D

Need to get it back on the scales.

With more weight off (estimated 20kg of wheels!) and the extra cooler it'll be interesting to see how close it is to 1,400kg now.

Surely the entertainment system is a couple of KG could get a blanking plate made? I suppose then it goes on to little things like door cards etc!

Yes, but it's still perfectly usable, I can put the regular seats back in.  Only takes 20 minutes.

The questions is... how far do you take it.

And I'm currently not going that far, so have air-con, entertainment, soundproofing etc...

But a blanking plate adds weight..

The only soloution is to take the dashboard out completely! :P

MUST SAVE WEIGHT!!!! lol

Wheels have arrived.

They were 7.8kg each.

Got the Annapurnas off and weighed them. 12.8kg each !!!

I can't help thinking that a potential weight saving of 5kg per corner in rotating mass is a huge step in the right direction and forgives the slightly less OEM look.

Considering the Speedline Turini were 9.2kg each I'm happy with that, these only cost £20 more each which is a bargain for 1.4kg per corner.

Just looking out for potholes now... :D

The best performance mod you did I dare say! I am looking forward to your impressions after first track outing on light rims ;). Depending on who are you listening to (or if yoi can be bothered to do the calcs) rotational mass weight saving is worth 4-5 times in stationary mass in terms of handling, so you saved yourself up to 100kg! Still only 20kg in terms of acceleration and braking :).

Not to mention I really like the looks!

*bait dangling*

Approved, nothing makes a car go faster than weight savings in the wallet department ;):D

For weight saving on those wheels, given your quest for 1400kg, job done. Must say though, taking aesthetics into consideration, I'd have Turinis every time :)

Tell me please... what is the name for this beautiful blue colour?

It's "Race Blue" which is a standard Skoda colour they only offered on VRS models until the Octy3 was released.

It's my favorite Skoda colour, this is my old Fabia VRS...

It's that time again... :D

Full fuel tank.

Seats in = 1,526kg.

Seats out = 1,452kg.

Now = 1,430kg.

Not a bad 96 kg out so far!

With an oil cooler fitted and lighter wheels = 1,417kg.  13kg reduction.

So 109kg less than stock with a full tank of fuel.

So, 17kg to your goal-what goes next?

I'm going to empty the screen wash. :D

I just need to look around the front end mostly.

And strip the doors out of what isn't needed.

There are loads of things you can still do (as you know) but I don't want to compromise it too much for going to and from the track.

Baring in mind it's 1,417kg with a brimmed tank and it goes out with around half a tank it's racing weight is already under 1,400kg... until I get in.

Wow, respect! 17litre screen wash bottle :D

Steering wheel must weight a couple of kg's

Although I have heard removal can hamper performance in the corners.

What was the bhp again Richard??

They quote 320-330 so it's probably around the lower figure.

Not had chance to RR it yet.

After the last meet there the AMD figures looked about bang on, so I might run it in.
