  • Here's a video from a rather bemused arial atom driver

  • Driven it a bit.   In a word, it is...   INSANE!!!

  • We have gone from this:   To this:   To this!!!       A Race Blue Yeti!   I need to get the Annapurnas on I think to complete the change.

I'm not overly familiar with Yeti but can you fit the alloy lower control arms & alloy hub carriers off a Passat or S3?  There's about 4kg per side saving IIRC

Alloy control arms from the cupra/S3 are probably the best bet for a fast road car - saving is only 1.8kg per side though iirc - usually around £150-£200 mark for both and should make a nice difference. TT arms also go on but give a couple of extra degrees of camber - enough to wear the tyres unevenly and better suited to a track setup IMO :)

That Clio really didn't want you overtaking it. Awesome video though

Now I know why you want 400bhp ! .

There's next to no body roll in that Yeti and on the straight R400 wasn't exactly holding back and just about being able to take you  .

It looks like Richard backed off on the straight to let him pass

I think he slowed as he passed to do a double take.

Probably thought I got lost going to Tesco and couldn't believe his eyes...

Edited for you :)

It does get some odd looks, but is flipping brilliant :)

It's almost as if you brought the tow car but forgot the trailer :D

Get a towbar fitted and tow the R32 up but leave r32 on trailer that'd be even better!

To be fair, standard MX5s have never been all about straight line speed, but they did seen more than a little confused.

I'm thinking some additional rear stickers too.

Maybe a National Trust sticker, or perhaps one of these:

Didn't get the 2010 Octy VRS petrol manual for it's 2.0tsi engine today. :(

Went to £4,200 (£5,000 with fees and delivery) and the price went higher.

Considering it was paid out by the insurance company as £9,000, had the whole rear end folded in and is now a Cat D I was surprised.

The search continues...

too many folk after a 2.0 TFSI ;)

This might be a daft question, but what does it cost to buy a new engine ?

More than the £5k you were looking at spending on a damaged car ?

I mainly wanted the car because if required I could pinch some other bits off it, like ECU etc...

Also being an Octy VRS I could have made some money back on the interior, front end panels, airbags etc...

Being the FL 2010 shape I think I'd have made about £2,000 - £2,500 in the parts I didn't require.

Hi Richard, just looking at my next car, potentially thinking something with a 1.8tsi lump in it.

Are you expecting to have any cast off performance engine parts going spare when you switch to the 2.0 tsi?

................and will you take provisional dibs on them

Honestly not sure at the moment.

I may sell them, put them in something else or keep them for when the car is sold.

At this rate I'm going to need them in teh Yeti for a fair while.

If you do a Superb we almost have the whole current Skoda range represented on track days.

Apart from the ironically named Rapid.

This is a big part of the motivation for me too.  Don't know if funds would allow a Superb vRS :) to keep in with your Power Yeti, but a track day sleeper should be in reach.

As for the 'Rapid' :dull:

To be fair, most "VRS" don't have 300bhp.  It was just a catchy name at the time. :)

Hmm what could be done to a rapid? Just engine transplant? Wonder what would work with it?

What could / should you do to a Superb to make it a presentable track day car?  If petrol powered, either a 2.0 TSI or the V6 might be the engine of choice, but apart from straight-line speed there is a need to negotiate the odd corner or two, so I'm lead to believe............

It's a Fabia on a very basic level, so all the usual stuff/transplants.

Must be a big Skoda meet soon...
