The screen is a huge improvement, more than enough to tempt me to buy one. As for apple needing to compete with android... What do the sales figures look like for any of the competition?

There won't ever be Flash support in Safari but you can just download a different browser and use that instead - a google search will find you plenty of alternatives

HTML5 has taken over.

I've succumbed also and I'm collecting a new iPad3 from my local Apple store on the 16th :D

Anyone really bothered by flash? Slowly being phased out anyway.

The only reason I would like the iPad to be able to run flash is so I can watch the many YouTube clips on here without resorting to turning the laptop on.

Will have a look at a different browser instead, for now.

Thanx for that Dr Z

And :D Daiking

My birthday is the 18th...quite a convenient release date then :D

We are getting iPad 3's at work...One each!!

I play the YouTube vids on here all the time with my iPhone, flash ain't needed for that!

Not for all of them but for most, all I see is a grey box with a play icon crossed out!

Is it just me or do other iPad users have the same problem?

Seriously? The iPad 2 was already the best overall tablet on the market and "the new iPad" just takes it to another level. Android tablets are consistently falling by the wayside time and time again.

Didnt see the tablet launches at WMC12 then?

In the market for a tablet, not sure if the iPad or transformer prime would make me smile? Any others that anybody would recommend?

Darren

I personally think Apple have made a big mistake. They needed radical changes to keep ahead of the market, especially with new tablets coming out this year. To me there isn't much difference between the new one and the ipad2 - nothing worth the release though.

Like the iPhone 4 to 4S then.

I can't se the point of upgrading my 4 to to a 4S, but

Expect them to shift boat loads of new iPads then......

They aren't aiming the new iPad at existing users, they are aiming it at those who don't have one, and they far outnumber those that do, and they are making it much more attractive to those who don't yet have one.

Apples share of the tablet market is huge, and I guess will get larger as nobody has anything that comes close to the experience apple gives you.

No I don't work for Apple or have an iPad, but I may consider one later this year. I may even be able to use one for my work.

Sorry i have to disagree with that statement , i own ipad2 and samsung galaxy , the galaxy is far superior , better and bigger screen , better camera , just as fast but more flexible in the way it can be used . If anyone in the house want to use a tab the galaxy is always first choice.

Flexible in what way, fannying around messing with stuff or actual useful flexible?

Simplicity of iOS > Droid fannying around. :giggle:

Actually, they are - they are expecting a very large percentage of iPad 1 owners to upgrade.

Apple are well aware that not everyone replaces their hardware each time and they hope to get them every other generation.

This is what they do with the iPhone, hence 3g and 3gs , 4 and 4s being broadly similar, and now it looks like they will get the same effect with the iPad.

So....

"bottom-line advice is this: at price parity, the iPad 2 is a better bet for the average user, since it’s a more stable, near-perfect device with a rich assortment of apps for nearly every possible function you’d like to perform on your tablet. Therefore, unless you’ve got a grudge against Apple for some reason, or are enamored with the idea of having a more configurable tablet, there’s not a lot of justification to go with the less mature, less established device at the same price."

Get into a shop that sells both like PC World and have a good long play on both there and then. I got the Transformer Prime over the iPad 2 pre ordered it as tbh the specification was impressive thinner and lasts a lot longer (almost double with dock) 2 hours more without dock. billed as a quad core when in fact it has 5 (a single core for power saver mode to save on juice) 8mp camera and 1080p @ 30fps. Biggest winner for me is it has full SD and micro SD card slots allowing me to expand memory dramatically I have a 32gb card in each could use bigger sdxc also. Has USB slot again more possibilities (I use a 2.5" external hdd for vids on the road). I can play just about any format of vid inc 1080p .mkv as they are no dramas no transcoding needed. Drag and drop no iTunes.

I do own an old ipod classic 80gb its in the car plugged into MDI permanently good at what it does happy with it but shall not replace as I personally don't like itunes.Drag and drop rules.

Last note touch and feel of the Transformer Prime is first class brushed alloy back etc is nice and gorilla glass on front is impressive (vids on youtube showing people trying to damage it and failing) Never thought I could get something of quality from Asus after years of second rate rubbish in mother boards etc annoying me.

For me it was the better buy and tbh as I see it, its the VRS of tablets (and then some) I am not paying more for something that is inferior to be part of the flock!

Just watching sky sports on my iPad. :giggle:

Also, I love how they have put up example pics of what the galaxy's home page looks like out of the box, then how it looks after they have 'customised' it....... to look exactly like an ipad

Anyone coming to Churchill Square Brighton to pick one up???
