The screen is a huge improvement, more than enough to tempt me to buy one. As for apple needing to compete with android... What do the sales figures look like for any of the competition?

There won't ever be Flash support in Safari but you can just download a different browser and use that instead - a google search will find you plenty of alternatives

Picked mine up this morning.....................got to my local Apple store at 5am this morning and was already the 15th person in the queue :whew:

Does it do anything that the iPad2 doesn't?

I like my iPad2 and am thinking about a 3 (when I can get out to the states and pick one up at a better price), but come on, queueing up at 5am ........ sounds a bit sad mate.

How is teh F1 app?

Dont know, have no interest in F1. :)

You BOOKED THE DAY OFF WORK to wait for an ipad? LOL! :giggle:

I feel gutted having a half day flexi for an exam....and that's important! haha!

No. But it's a bit quicker and the screen is hugely better. That's it.

I have an iPad 1, but I have no reason to replace it yet as it does everything I want anyway. Maybe next year. Or maybe not. :)

Well thats your choice.. i have too many hols so never get to use them...

Finally got mine.. the screen is phenomenal!..

Nope, sorry.

Apart from the HD Retina screen quad core graphics and a much improved camera that has the same 1080p definition as the iPhone 4s

The 4G ones aren't really 4G as the UK doesn't have 4G at the moment, its being trialled in London and Bristol though & no double will be available within the Olympic village during 2012.

That's ok then. I can the 2 indefinitely

We DO have 4g, but even when the whole country has access to it iPad users wont be able to use it, the iPad only picks up the US frequencies, not the ones being used in the UK.

True.. (theres a trial in london)

Problem is our LTE bands would be slap bang where our old analog tv signals were, and there's worry's that in certain places it would interfere with the digital tv signals - which the cost of putting right could be quite high, so this is why carriers are a bit cautious to roll it out.

By the time 4G is widespread we will be on the iPad 6 and the Asus Optimus Prime King Megazord Ultimate Transformer. :giggle:

Sorry, maybe I wasn't clear.

The UK as a whole is not yet 'up and running' on a 4G network, Trials are underway in parts of London by of and in Bristol by Orange.

Over priced & overhyped, also freedom of choice of content of apps is very tightly controlled by Apple - you might as well be in China for the things you cant see or have on an apple product.

Other than the minority of websites that still think Flash is good, what cant I see on my iPad?

I don't mind the control over the app store as it assures me the stuff I download has been thoroughly vetted before being put on the store.

I'd like an iPad 3 as I currently have an iPad 1 so an upgrade would be nice. SWMBO can bloody keep her iPad 2 for a while yet.

As for browsing? very rare I have any issues when browsing with Safari.

Wi-Fi only as I can use my iPhone as a hot spot when out and about.

I suppose it depends on which side of the fence you sit. The main strength of the Apple is that it "just works" and with a monopoly on hardware and software, there's a pretty high chance that problems will be few and far between. Compare this to the Android approach where you have lots of different hardware running lots of different flavours of Android and the possibility to download/install anything on it. Yes, you have the freedom, but with that, you'll find apps which don't work on your phone/tablet due to incompatibilities, and you have to have a lot of trust that the software you're installing doesn't have any nasties in it.

I'm far from an Apple fanboi but went and had a look at the iPad 3 yesterday to see what all the fuss was about. It didn't really strike me as very different to the iPad 2 I had a play with in the Apple Store a couple of month's back when my other half was shopping for a tablet, although a side by side comparison may make the differences more obvious, especially with the changes to the screen. FWIW, she preferred (and bought) the Samsung Galaxy Tab :D

Chris

I Can't see the issue in stating a product can connect to 4G networks (when this is only true at certain locations in the World).

Let's face it there are plenty of car manufacturers naming their cars based on engine horse power (how many years does the engine stay at this output) or giving top speeds well in excess of anything you can use on public roads in most countries, even stating mpg figures that don't match real World experience.

You also have broadband being sold based on "up to" speeds rather than actual, so over promising and under delivering is just part of most sales patter in this day and age.

WOW the Ipad 3 has stole a lead on all the other tabs , you can cook on this one :giggle:

You'll certainly be able to make something slightly warmer than it was before, but I think cooking is a little optimistic.

As for "computer gets warm when doing stuff" being a big story.... they really are a bit desparate aren't they. That's hardly a new development and could be applied to just about every laptop.
