Backy, Booze, both big killers and effects on the NHS, both collect quite a bit of Excise tax, think it was about £8B each for the UK.

I gather Barry Sheene had a cigarette diameter whole drilled in his crash helmet chin peice to get the fag in right up to the off on the grid !

Looks good mate.

Not sure about the CB, but on the VFR theres some chrome caps for the back wheel. Covers the hole n what not

Not in the slightest bit exciting, but my lad's been out on his bike again

Yep, them and fuel I'd say are the biggest rip off/earners. If everyone stopped drinking, smoking and driving....they'd be well ****ed

He sure did....I wish there were more riders like, i true character....guy martin's the only one that comes kinda close....I'm reading his autobiography just now, some man some family. I'm still near the start, but like where he says of his dad many years ago "when Ian took his glasses off you either ran or fought him"

I've got his autobiography too! Not had chance to start it yet, but within the next few days.

You enjoying it?

Bought me a Garmin Zumo 309lm today.

I have mounted it onto the bike using the mount provided (on the brake lever bracket) but not sure im completely happy with it there. I think i want to get it mounted on the nut on the top yoke but undecided.

Also need to wire it in yet haha.

Liking the nav unit so far though. Twisty roads function n what not.

I'm a Zumo convert. Great bit of kit. Mines hardwired in now.

Next bike tech purchase this year will have to be bluetooth headsets

so I can use it wirelessly and also be able to talk to wife when she's on the back

so a double set will be necessary. Waiting on a couple of microphones to arrive

so I can get my Drift cam fixed and wired in to my lid. Speaking of which, my new

suction mount arrived today along with selfie pole. I'm going to sit down later with

a needle and thread and make an adjustable webbing strap as I got a second goggle

mount as a free gift with a spare battery I bought so I'm going to make a rear seat mount

for strapping the camera there .I'm interested to know how many drivers give me the bird

after I ride by :D  I'm having fun just piddling around with settings and stuff at the mo.

Did an internal and external vid on the van over the last few days.

One with the cam clipped to my roof bars and one with it on the windscreen like a sat nav.

Just getting to grips with all the settings before I want to use the camera properly.

Any good recommendations for a simple video editor?

Re: bike nav, I found that a cheap ebay Chinese £30 EU unit in a £9.99 ebay waterproof sat-nav holder worked really well if on a budget, nowhere near as good as the specific bike ones I've used, but for £40 solved the problem and gave me nav, a clock and text messages on the go.

Trick is to set the unit brightness to max and backlight to always on,  then go into the nav settings and set brightness to max for day, min for night.

Not perfect, but great for £40 and mine also fitted my mobile, keys, cards and money into it.

Not in the slightest bit exciting, but my lad's been out on his bike again

Ahhh, how's he getting on? Enjoying it? Watching that video brings back memories, ringing a little 125 engines neck off the lights :D Especially with my build on it lol

Its fun isnt it!

Not like when you get a big bike n theres so little places you can give it the beans off the line haha

He's not been out on it much (mixture of weather, A-levels, etc) but the fact that he took a detour "for fun" is very encouraging!

I took it for a run myself a couple of weeks ago (mine's currently SORNed) and it did remind me of the joy of riding again. OK, I'd not want to go touring on it, but wringing it's neck around the local lanes and still only hitting 55 or such good fun (a bit like when the missus had the 1.2 12V Fabia)

Yeah, it's funny but being able to exploit every last drop of power is such fun. I was looking at TW125s as I had one at 17 but after a bit of looking they made a TW200 in Japan with a touch more power, enough to pull me along well but still low enough you could abuse it everywhere and not get near limits. In a couple of years I'd love one.

:D Its the knowing you'll not get in trouble for going too quick that makes it fun I think lol. It's not the best time of year for starting out but little trips when the weather allows is good.

I slept through my alarm this morning so didn't have time to cycle to work today :( , not a problem, nice mild weather so took the motorbike :) , only to loose a nut & washer off one of the rear suspension struts causing it to pop off the swingarm at 50(ish) going around a couple of long sweeping S bends  .

What a wake up call with the rear end sinking and becoming extremely wallowy, yet crashy at the same time, I thought I'd got a puncture to start with, it was a tough 15min walk pushing the bike to the nearest streetlight so I could see what was wrong.  I got the strut pushed back into place, headed for the nearest town and plodded to work, stopping often to push the strut back on before it popped off again.

Off togo to the bike shop this morning for another nut & washer so I can ride home tonight, probably not the best of ideas though (going to a motorbike shop in the January sales  )

I checked the remaining 3 nuts (1holding the left side strut & the 2 holding the right side strut) & they were all loose, time to get some loctite on them.

Oh dear. Bad times.

Could of been much worse though by the sounds of it mate.

Possible design floor with the bike?

Yes, it could have been a very different outcome but it wasn't and I'm still here to tell the tale :) , it does highlight the importance of checking 'everything' on a regular basis, I only washed the bike 1-2 weeks ago after I last went out on it but didn't notice the nut being loose.

At least I know for the next week, it is stored safely at work in a heated garage, it must be thinking its in heaven compared to my un-heated concrete garage!

Not sure about design flaw but I would have expected something to help keep the nuts from turning though, there is nothing to say that they havent been removed and replaced with something different.

Rang SMC Sheffield (thought it safer than going down) & ordered x4 new nuts & washers @ £2.21 each, for that price I might as well get x4 new ones & loctite them all :) , now to wait for them to come into stock. Train ride to get home tonight.

Sounds good!

Cant you just knock something up in the mean time? Sure you could get some nuts from somewhere?

They should have some sort of locking nut or something id have thought?

Strange isnt it.

There is a wickes only 5min walk from here but to be honest I can't be bothered with trying to match a nut and washer up, it's not causing any harm leaving my bike at work & no big deal when I can collect it as I can cycle to work, ride the motorbike home and collect my pushbike when I drive to work on a night shift.

Fair enough then mate (:

Looks a bit like the Chinese bikes, where unless you dismantle the thing and either replace the bolts or threadlock them, you lose a part on every ride.

My mate's Sukida 125 (not stripped and rebuilt as "was not needed-it's a new bike!") was famed for losing something every time we went out; rear footpegs, side stand, centre stand, side panels, shock bolts etc-we'd never follow him after twice being hit by stuff bouncing back off the road and back at us.

Bike parts should be designed better than this, in the same was as aeroplanes; the need for safety is similar.

Well. Just had a drive over to stockport to get an extra mount for the sat nav (into the top yoke) and a security kit for it.

Have had time to fit it all yet but hopefully will do tomorrow.

Bob at 'Telferizer' is highly recommended. Top bloke with some top products too. Has them made himself out of proper RAM parts. Quality is brill.

Would seriously recommend if anybody's got any sat nav/phone/camera/logger mounting needs.

Happy days

I was going to post that a few weeks back but it got taken down. The coach was a bit touch and go! Won't be alive for long

My god, my heart was racing watching that!
