What was it? Vid of an accident? :peek:

Noo. Hate those vids

2 bikes racing down the motorway. Making other cars look stopped and taking massively stupid risks. Between lanes n stuff at about 140mph

Got the centre cap and bung thing for the rear axle now the rear bobbins are off. Also got the bike out for a quick spin up to the dealers yesterday, rained as I left the end of my street and sun broke out as I entered it returning home :D It was so good to get out on it though, forget how quick it is each time :D

Spoke to my uncle this week too, we're going to do a little south coast tour in the spring, just 3 nights. We have a rough idea where we're going, looking at £100 for fuel each and £36 for rooms. Just food and drink on top of that, should be a good laugh without spanking too much money, think my mate is coming too so the 3 of us.

Did you get a cap for the hole in the middle of the rear wheel?

Sounds like a good outing without too much cost.

Then again, its the drinks that would probably cost. If you get a taste for it like i tend to anyway haha.

I havent been out on the viffer for quite a while now. Constantly loads of grit on the road or raining. All I've driven lately is the fabia. So the bikes gonna feel very quick indeed haha

Yeah, one for the swingarmless side (like a car centre cap basically) and one for the side with the swingarm, thats more like a bung. £2.70 total :D I'm impressed with how quick things come in, I know its a main dealer but order 3pm and it arrives 12 the day after.

I doubt I'll drink much tbh, maybe on the last night have a few OR if we crash at my uncles on the way home maybe go out into camden on or something.

I get the feeling everyday when I leave work and get out a bus into the Octavia and that isnt really that quick but the bike is something else :D

I dont know if it's because its my first winter with a bike and I'm extra eager or what but I just wanna be out there. The past few weeks I've not been on it as I have been extra cautious with the salt on the road.

Got a pic mate? Wouldnt mind one for my viffer. Didnt know the dealers sold em tbh

Yeah aha. In the summer i just get used to it that i barely think about it though. Obv im aware its very fast, but just get used to the progressive riding style n dont think about it as much aha.

Winters horrible for bikes isnt it :(. Spun up the back wheel without trying a few months back. Itll be even worse now. I try not to ride it, its in mint condition tbh and i like it that way, but i usually get far too tempted haha

Of the centre cap? Or bung? They're just the stock parts that were removed when the last owner fitted the crash bungs....

Thats the only thing keeping me off it, the fact I have a nice bike and want to keep it like that, if I had the old CB I'd probably be smashing it about in all the weathers.

I think we've got our wires crossed. I mean the hole in the middle of the wheel. They arent filled with a plug as standard are they? Vfr's arent anyway.

Yeah! Aha. Never riding in snow again though. Did that once. Was properly horrible. Constantly sliding sideways into cars tracks. Lorrys soo close behind. Hated every moment

Yeah, that hole I posted a picture of on the last page? That should have the centre cap, mines missing from the wheel bung things fitted but standard it should have one. I can measure the hole size and see if the cap off my bike would fit yours? I know the wheels are swappable :D

Tried the stand out this morning, looks bang tidy on it

Just need to see if there is some kind cap for the other side of the wheel now the bobbins are removed

Yeah that one in the bottom pic. Thats the fella (:

Ahh only when you're near the bike mate, if you dont mind (: cheers!

Yeah the wheels are interchangeable :). Also the 8 spoke wheel off a 91 vfr750 will fit straight on. Thats the best looking wheel IMO.

Like hens teeth now though. Im gonna buy one if one ever pops up haha.

I need to check they fit anyway so hopefully later today I can get it out, I'll let you know.

That's the wheel I saw on a CB, looked great but it'd bug me the front was different. :(

Nice one!

Yeah theyre good. Theres one on ebay atm but the guy wants £300. It does come with a swingarm to, but thats no use to me. I've offered him £200 n hes not interested, n I've asked if he'll sell me just the wheel, but he wont.

Im not paying £300 for it. Especially since it needs a refurb and a tyre swap. Not paying that much

Ouch, yeah thats a little too much for a wheel.

The cap measures 3cm across, if it's the right size I can find the part number, it's 77p plus vat I think.

I've put it on the bike, fits like a glove, looks odd, I'm use to the bobbins I think. :D

Also viewed the state of the thing, my half hour in the rain has left it in a right mess!

Looks like the weather is going to turn very cold over the coming week or so, think I'll make some time to get it out and washed properly.

Cheers. I'll go n measure mine in a mo (:

Dirty dirty bike! Haha.

Have you heard about ACF50? Id spray it up with that stuff if you plan on taking it out, personally. Its good stuff (:

Yeah, caked the old CB in it, going to do this one when I wash it, need to lube the chain too.

Lubing the chain is a real PITA IMO.

Viffer happens to have a scottoiler on it. It was on when i got the bike, n I've gotta say, it seems pretty damn good tbh.

Yeah, the old bikes centre stand came in handy for that. What do you use to clean & lube it?

It never gets that dirty tbh. I dno why. I give it abit of a wipe over with a rag with wd40 on now n again, but thats about it tbf.

Lubing. I've tried a few things. Probably use 'rock oil chain lube' the most, have tried some ptfe based stuff and some rental stuff too.

It all seem to fling, as much as they state they dont, even when applied on a warm chain and left to soak.

This is why im quite pleased with the scottoiler. It keeps ontop of the job without making a mess.

Others might have some better advice, hopefully.

What do you use to clean & lube it?

Petrol and 2 stroke mixture which I keep in a jerry can for my chain saw is also used for

chain cleaning duties. I splash some into a small plastic dish (usually the bottom cut off of a

plastic milk container) and brush into the chain with a trimmed paintbrush.

Wipe the gunge off with a rag and repeat until clean, Comes up like new.

 I use this ----> S100CHAIN_Main-sdoc-chain-cleaner-1_l.jpfor lubing.

I've got his autobiography too! Not had chance to start it yet, but within the next few days.

You enjoying it?

Yep, and Ive never read a whole book I'm my life, his family are 'ard as nails, I'm nearly 1/4 way through

I've been busy on this haha.

Chapter 8 im on now i think.

Havent touched it for a few days though, been busy with work n too tired by the time i get home

  • 2 weeks later...

Thanks Garry, I'll give that a whirl.

The weather is surprisingly nice today, a warm 8 degrees, but damp from overnight rain so I'm hoping to get out in the bike for a hour or so.

Bike taken for a spin, was nice just to get out for a hour or so but too cold for any real fun.

Checking the oil level is a royal pain in the arse with a sight glass instead of a dipstick. God knows how anyone manages it on their own, I had to get the mrs to help by holding the bike level, a slight lean either way totally skews the reading too. I am going to invest in an ABBA stand next month, I think I'm going to do the plugs/brake fluid/coolant too while I'm doing the oil and filters.

Agreed, if you dont have a centre stand the dingy glass requires 2 people. But then, so does a dipstick. Aha. its a pita.

Wish i could do for a ride. We've got nearly a foot if snow. So i dont think the viffer will handle very well
