That's what the sticker on the bike says. Oddly it's the same figures for riding solo and with pillion. I'm 6"1 and 16st so would have thought it could do with a bit more.

Well i fell out with my CBR this morning as it refused to start :(

Fuel pump primes ok, starter goes ok but just fails to burst into life.

It almost started catching, but by then the battery was dying, so it's back on charge and will see what happens tonight.

Anyone want it?? lol

I'd put money on either battery or rectifier is goosed.

Have had 4 o/e rectifiers die on me, made from butter it would seem lol.

It had a new rectifier 2 months ago, but not the same symptoms as when that went.

When that failed, it just drained the battery straight away.

It's weird as it's been on charge since last thursday :(

Any recommendations on where to get a battery Davie?

Bahhhhhhhhhh never had a bike fail to start for me 'yet'. Hope you get it sorted quick.

This is the 3rd time it's let me down.

1st was rectifier,

2nd was defo battery

then this time...so might just bite the bullet and grab a battery from Halfords on the way home.

I assume it is the same with bikes but car batteries are not what they used to be for durability or longevity absolute shieite and cost 2-3 times more than 10 year ago. No alarm on new bike is epic, I could just let it sit for 3 months and press that button and boom she would fire instantly (touch wood). Never going to sit that long.

Oh aye question for you all my new bikes chain has got a little too slack for my liking should really have tightened it up before last wee spin but I had already transformed into the black power ranger so just took her easy. Never had to adjust chain on a bike with no paddock stand or centre stand, anyone got any tips? Seems to me like it will be a little awkward. In fact I may have to do it during work tomorrow, not had my overalls on in over 2 years, plus then I will be getting paid to do it :D

Noob question. What's a rectifier? Heard it mentioned a few times

My 2003 ZRX still has the Original battery.

Martyn, when did you last put new plugs in the bike.

Some bikes just eat plugs 4 no reason.

Might be worth getting a set on your way home via halfrauds.

Well it's not the battery :(

Even tried jump leads from the Fabia and it still wont fire.

Next problem is getting it somewhere!

Has it got an alarm/immobiliser installed? It hasn't sat too long either has it?

It has, but it appears to be ok, as soon as i disarm the immobiliser, the fuel pump primes and i can try and start it.

Why do I need plugs for? I just wanted to know what a rectifier was.

I had a Lazerline issue on a mates bike with corroded connector primed and turned sounded all correct but when you thought that is it let go of button it would die be gone. Also seen a few have fuel issues with fuel that has gone off. The Triumph that was knocking about work for 2 years with not being started ran more or less fine with a new battery on fuel that was in it, but in bike place I use here guy was warning of the new fuels (I assume he meant with E10) going off really really quick. This sort of time last year when people were waking their bikes up he was flat out with carbs that were clogged (most have older bikes here) I assume injectors can block up too/ filters etc.

The bike was last started on Saturday and never missed a beat, so even more confused. :(

I use it as my daily too.

Well I bought a new helmet today. Decided I needed a new one after I checked my current one and found it was nearly 8 years old!!

I only checked it after giving the inside bits a wash ready for my trip to the NW200 in a couple of weeks. The water was grey  have to say it still does the job but it's had lots of use.

So after looking round I got a shock at what prices are like these days, not that my last one was cheap. Looked at the the replacement for my Arai Corsair which is the RX7 GP that'll be £600 for a plain colour!

I've tried plenty of helmets over the years and found that I have an Arai head, this is my 6th one, so it's no surprise it's another Arai.

This time it's this one:arai_rebel_base-white.jpg

Not to everyones taste but fit and finish is as good as every from Arai and got some good discount off it too. Just need to sort a black visor now.

You only get one head look after it.

Started riding a "mobylette" when a teen in France. Rebuilt one from scratch, doing the full ported crankcase, cylinder, etc, bigger carb, loud exhaust... Ahhh I love the smell of burnt two-stroke oil in the morning. Come to think of it, strange I'm still alive. I remember doing probably around 70mph on it with piddly drum brakes that required 500m to stop :o

Then got a DT125 and stuck nobbly tyres to go round our land in France. Great fun offroading in fields and forests with it.

Passed my bike test before my car test and started riding a CB500. I have to say, I loved it, and just wish you could still get that in-line 2 with more grunt. Was great fun scraping the pegs on mountain corners.

When I came to the UK for uni, bought a Kawa GPX250R - grey import 250cc 4-stroke twin. Red-lined at something stupid like 15k rpm. Had zero torque, but still managed 110mph on it once! So economical though so as a student, it was fantastic.

Since then, bought a new SV650S in silver in 2003. Last year before the pointy ones and only year I believe in silver. Still have it today.

But it needs some TLC - I've hardly ridden it over the last two years working away so much. Plan to redo the front - still on original fork oil - shocking I know (pun not intended!). Ordered some braided brake lines. Needs a seriously good clean.

Currently standard, but has a scottoiler (when I was doing 100 mile daily commute) and a pair of gorgeous Renegade twin high level titanium cans. Sound just awesome and I fitted them for safety reasons so people could hear me coming :giggle:

Martyn, as a fellow SVer, are you on the org? I haven't looked yet, but they're a friendly bunch over there.

tuono, recommend a good place? I have an Arai head too - current lid is an Arai, but over 10 years old so time for a new one...

Got mine from Pidcocks in Long Eaton, Nottingham. Good selection, good service and when I asked about price matching against J&S they bettered it. Got the Rebel in the base white(above) for £435(J&S was £439.99). J&S said that the original price was £700?

Most places want £479.99 for the colour schemes and £439.99 for the plain.

It will be in use later this week now the suns out :sun: :sun:

Thanks. Looks like I need to do some shopping around

Went from Swansea up to Aberystwyth via Rhayader and back yesterday. The ride was really good. Most of the roads are well suited for bikes and are great fun. When the roads were fairly open and I could see corner exits I'm learning all over again how to cover ground quickly. Few things I found though.

  • Jet filled potholes are a menace. Nothing happened but there's a lot of gravel now all over certain roads and was a bit sketchy.
  • The faster I went the better it was. Still getting used to the brakes. First impressions are they aren't good enough but could be me over cautious about locking them. Locked the rear at one point thanks to a van braking with no clear reason to mid bend. Worth upgrading the pads? Disks look fine.
  • If you turn the key past the lock to parking lights the battery will go flat within a few hours. I now know this and also know how to take the seat off to get at the battery for a jump. Think I may have a dead cell in the battery anyway so I'll need to buy a new one. You can probably bump a V Twin but I had a quick go and couldn't.
  • When going slower my wrists hurt more but it is a lot better than it used to be. When I'm past 50mph it's not a problem and the faster I go I have no aches and pains at all.
  • I need a louder horn. Do they do Stebel's for bikes?
  • Police bikers do the nod as well :D
  • A few corners, normally slower ones I found myself washing wide. Need to think about this.
  • I also know that riding normally it does 140 miles to the light and <110 if I go for a faster run.

I'm getting there. Fitted a genuine SV tank pad and it looks a lot better. Bought a Xena XX15 lock meaning I can take it to work. Road bike tomorrow. Hoping to do at least 30 miles to give my legs a shock.

If Carlsberg did horns, they would sound like my old exhaust. My new ones are far to civilised :( the TiForce drain pipe educated many a blind cager

Everything you said above just reminded me of.....ME when I was first riding :) It sounds like it's all coming together nicely.
