Love it!! The best (save) I had which was still techically a crash was on my old cbr6, going round a roundabout knee and peg on the floor and the front washed out. I fell onto my knee which was already on the floor and slid across the road on my knee slider and the edges if the tyre!!! Some one had to stop and pull the bike off me but there was no damage. Yes I was a stupid invincible teenager

I am still getting used to the crap roads back home here. The other day on my intentional storm chasing ride to further familiarise myself with the bike in the wet, I hit a few creases or more like deep ripples in rapid succession in the road twice surprised me as the spacing was just right to unsettle the bike and life me off seat 'nut crackers' I call those moments.......

Yeah! Horrible moments!

White lines and overbanding are there to catch you out too!

If i had my way, there would be no manhole covers in the road, it would be illegal to change a road surface just in a corner, and all white lines would be non slip paint (like on the IOM TT circuit)

But also how do they manage to put 3 metal manholes in a row on the apex of a corner? It's like they plan it!!!!

Probably the worst incident I've ever seen was at work we got called to a fatal where a bloke filtering between two lanes over massive yellow bands warning of a roundabout. He had to break (not too hard) unfortunately on the yellow banding! front wheel locked bike went right under a car he went right under the rear wheels of an artic trailer poor bloke was only doing about 20-25

Some of these things are so badly thought through

Main issues are the roads are so tired here and tar&chipping on all roads ALL! It's a rural area and they are either fairly newly surfaced and loose danger, old and worn out with tram lines in centre of lane and tracks from where vehicles have been moving bitumen has risen/chippings sunk leaving a click surface that's worst than any manhole cover as it's 100% smooth, at least man holes are ridged so some grip/feel :( will get some stills and post them up of road surface issues like the white paint on bad bends with MAJOR pot holes in it making cars jump off the road inch by inch but bikes have to avoid at all costs which is hard.

I called my local highways dept about a huge diesel spill and

some dodgy patches of gravel here and there round my local streets.

Whether or not something will be done is another question.

That'll be what I'm most worried when I start as there are some real good potholes out here and all of the roads are absolutely rubbish! Well until you get to a main road! A483 here I come :)

Unfortunately probably not but we live in hope!

Riding to work tomorrow, the mrs wants the car, it's such a palaver getting all the kit on for a 15min ride up a dual carriageway. I might go a long way in and GoPro it, capture some non incriminating footage to post :D I'll end up getting carried away and be late knowing my luck.

Now that youve reported it, if somebody drops their bike due to the diesel, they can claim off the council.

If its not been reported, you cant claim.

So you might have done somebody a favour!

I know what you mean. Its not pleasant.

The better quality bike you hsve though, the better they feel.

My SV used to bottom out thr forks over a pothole. Was horrible. VFR takes it all in its stride though.

This corner the missing patches on road are actually quite deep and as it's in such a bad state oncoming traffic tend to avoid it on their near side as that side of road is worse and cross the hazard warning line, knowing the road like with other crap spots here affects the lines I choose on bike, should I follow Road Craft to the letter, I feel would substantially increase the risk of FUBAR vs car/lorry head on.

Major A road, no dual carriageways or motorways this is the equivalent. Tar&Chipping in centre of each lane gone and fairly deep.

Tar&Chipping less than a week old in tatters and will never be addressed = picking molten bitumen soaked chippings off my bike, boots, leathers and lid.........

vlcsnap-2014-07-24-15h21m44s166.png

Same road same day, cross roads and chippings have sank bitumen on top = zero grip in rain forever in the worst possible place......

vlcsnap-2014-07-24-15h22m47s30.png

Same road a little further on again, on an S bend more sunken patches which is a theme of all roads tbh.

vlcsnap-2014-07-24-15h23m43s81.png

Tar & Chipping is applied over all manholes and not cleared off, as it will not stick to it forever they leave these service access points sealed closed until vehicles will eventually wear it off. This is knowing that the surface on these parts is unstable and will move. You don't want to be on front break when you find one a month or 2 after surfacing!

vlcsnap-2014-07-24-15h23m58s251.png

Old school manhole with it's own holes, perhaps those glass bricks in it are because it's a skylight to some bunker?? :o

vlcsnap-2014-07-24-15h26m01s168.png

Another manhole awaiting the public to remove the unstable surfacing over it....

Little used senic road 3-5 years since last surfacing with Tar&Chipping, still piles of loose at sides of road and again sunken black patches.

More of the same

These roads I have pulled still of as they are roads which are the better roads hence I ride on them. They are no where near as bad as most of the rest :(

Urgh. Horrible, isnt it

I'll get some images of out here if I feel like a walk but it's similar and not good until you meet a main road! I caught a pothole once as I was keeping in for a car on my mountain bike and it collapsed the wheel locking the front wheel and throwing me onto the road all because the council are f***** useless

I'm on a boarder of a county. One side doesnt seem to use it much & the other chuck it everywhere! Went out for a spin a few weekends ago, got caught by miles of it being put down, ****ing awful. Went down the same road about 2 weeks later and it's still got loose chippings all over it, horrible to ride on. My local town have gone crazy recently, resurfacing (properly) about 10 roundabouts, they work during the day and open it during the night, when they are unsurfaced and rough between the old tarmac removed and new put down, the road is nicer to ride on than the road with the chippings!

How did I miss this in 2013

Took the Aprilia out recently only to land on a road with loose chippings an inch thick in places which made it impossible to ride on (the council do the same stretch every few years between Dursley and Wotton and put down a ridiculous amount of gravel on this stretch).  Had to abandon the route, turn round and take a detour as there'd have been little chance of remaining in the saddle if I'd had to brake for anything.  About time the government outlawed this archaic, wasteful and downright dangerous form of surface dressing which is a disgusting false economy.  There is currently a petition doing the rounds to raise enough signatures to form a white paper for discussion in the commons but I believe not enough signatuires as yet.  If I find it I'll post the link.

Enough moaning, here's my few rides:

Is quite like you suspension wheels and twin exhausts on my mille, just in case you ever break it lol

Had a nice blast out to my brothers tonight.

I know the road very well over to his and it is a very fast section. Was clear this evening and still light.

Ideal oppertunity to stretch the VFR's legs.

Still impressed with how it pulls compared the SV.

Nipped up to 135mph twice but havent been any faster than thst on it yet. Although its still pulling happily and will do 155mph on paper i believe. Ill see sometime on a smoother stretch with a little more visability!

Much enjoyed it though.

Disclaimer: my brother lives at the other end of our private track that we inherited from our great great grandparents which they hand made to a high standard back int day, whilst drinking PG tips and dunking digestives

KTM 640 Duke 2.  Great fun, simple to home service too.

I do like the Duke, only ever seen one in the flesh and the sound it made was epic.

This one's now been fitted with GPR Zorsts, and the sound is pretty epic!  Not so loud as to be objectionable, but you'd know it was a big thumping single:

Not as loud or lairy as the  Aprilia by a long way though.  A few more snaps of the RSVR...rare Colin Edwards model:
