Navigation - maintaining route when switched off

Featured Replies

Hi, guys,

I'm new both to the site and to Skoda, having just picked up an 09-plate Superb, so I apologise if the answer to this question is already out there somewhere on the site.

My query is this: if I set the Satnav to a destination and start driving, why is the route stopped if I switch off the ignition at some point in my journey, say to call off at a shop or at a roadside rest? You can't call it a "stop-over", as it might be completely unplanned. On my previous Garmin unit, it stored my destination and route mapping, so when I got back into the car, the SatNav just carried on from where it left off. Now I have to re-enter the destination and go through the route choices etc., which seems a terrible load of faff.

Is there a way round this? Am I missing something?

I look forward to hearing from you.

Kind regards,

Ned.

The destination is probably stored in last destinations or something like that. I don't have my Superb until Friday, but that's how my current car does it (Rover 75).

My satnav (MY12) just starts up again after a brief stop at motorway services - it doesn't even ask if I want to resume my journey, as it did on my previous other make.

Mine resumes after a brief stop, but not after a much longer one.

same here

The handbook confirms that there's a 'Last Destinations' memory, so if you exceed the 'short time' (however long that is) you can still get it back without having to completely retype.

Thanks, guys. I've just upgraded the maps to v.8 and that solves it!

Hi Ned, My Yeti with Columbus is due in Setember. I'm assuming V8 maps will be pre-loaded (I don't think you get the DVD any more...) My questions are: When did version 8 come out and how much was the upgrade? Next; Is V9 due soon? I will be miffed, if in a couple of months of getting a new car with an expensive Sat Nav, a new version of the mapping is produced!

+1 for this question - I just picked up my '11 plate car this week - if there's a later map version then I want them to upgrade it foc! How do I find out what map version I have now?

After a stop mine seems to forget its last destination. Sometimes...

Stops at motorway service stations seem to be OK, but stopping at a friend's house seems to be a no no.

BUT, when you press the 'Nav' hard button, you can then press 'Start' on the screen to resume navigation to the last destination or route.

Ah, well; thereby hangs a tale, and I'm afraid I can't help you. Firstly, upgrading to "Version 8" DIDN'T solve the problem - I obviously hadn't left the car switched off for as long as I thought I had - (ab)normal service was resumed shortly after I made my last posting. Secondly, I acquired "Version 8" from a "non-official" source; all seemed OK until I was driving towards the Cumbernauld by-pass outside Glasgow, which my "Version 8" software labelled as the A80. However, the road was upgraded to the M80 some time ago, proving, fairly conclusively, that this is NOT Version 8. Caveat emptor, and all that...
