Fabia Vrs Oil Fix

Featured Replies

I have limited knowledge about how things work under the bonnet but can't understand this:

Ok the majority are ok but a fair number are not. Surely these all share the same faulty part (or badly engineered if you'd rather). Should all engines not all be affected?

  • The vrs won't have the oil in the system long enough for it to do any damage

  • As someone who fought and won against Skoda.... Twice, you need to keep on at them! I rejected my car after it had 4 new engines in 2 years (they admitted there was a problem) so I'm happy to help you

  • Rag it to the redline on a regular basis from day 1 of ownership and its less likely you'll have issues. End of. Mine runs super sweet with no oil problemo "running in" this way hehe. When I sell it I

Some Early Engines had problems with the faulty Injectors, Coils, fitted with wrong plugs, Crankshaft Bearings etc.

Then there was Bore Wash problems.

Also other Parts failures.

There are fuel pump and water pump failures, nothing on all engines but some things on some engines

Write to Skoda or VW and ask them for the explanation, they have been awarded the 'Under 1.4 Engine of the year' for 4 years,

they must be proud of it, and funnily seem to accept the failure rate in them.

Well I hope mine will be ok. It's going to well at the mo! I'm leaving for France and Germany next week so will be driving 2000miles+ in just over 2 weeks. Hope it does me proud!

Look for 100 or 102 RON petrol, it will love it,

enjoy.

Will do matey! Thanks

Have a safe trip... enjoy...:)

well my new engines been in 2wks now and I think this one burns oil too, I know it could be down to being new but I shall be keeping a watchfull eye over it

Mine's done 35k in 12 months, most of that between UK and Germany.  OK, first engine burnt a valve at 22k, but apart from that fine.  42mpg on yesterdays run (included an Autobahn healthcheck - 225kph logged on the SatNav, in D7 for George ;) ).  Apart from some of the Belgian road surfaces, its a surprisingly easy driving car for the (almost) 600 miles trip in just over 10 hours.

Enjoy!

Hi All,

I have just booked my new CTHE vRS in for the oil test.  I check the oil weekly and this morning there was just a slight indication of oil at the orange ball at the bottom of the dipstick.

I did 200 miles in the week and am just on my second 4 litre can of approved oil in 3380 miles.

I put a litre in to bring the level to near the top of the dipstick.

Earlier in the month I did a 300 mile round trip using 1/4 litre only, so very mysterious.

Anyway I have written to my dealer, at their suggestion, as any evidence is worthwhile in dealing with such a case.

Will keep you posted.

Tony

Just done a 600 mile round trip to Wales and the car only burned about 250 ml; so well within spec, so have cancelled oil test and will continue to record oil usage as agreed with my dealer, who is very attentive to the issue.

If I was you I'd still do the consumption test at a later date, I done a 200 mile trip and only used a small amount of oil, 500 miles later it was back to using lots again. Just thought I'd give you my little bit of experience in the hope it might help you :-)

3.5 ltrs in 3k miles on second engine :( so thats nearly 5k km so id expect it to stop now going by the handbook but i have my doubts

if only this car wasn't so good in other areas id have sold the bugger long ago

In one week 300 km driven so far so good, no oil consumption.... hope it will go on like this.. :))

That's not good and sounds like a further trip back to the dealer. After 17k miles on my second engine I have had one oil change and used 2 additional litres of oil.

Quick update, my vRS goes in next Wednesday for the base engine (CTHE) change, the engine arrived today and I've checked the date on it, 25/07/2013 so I'm happy with that, my car was registered Sept 2012. Will update when done and hopefully fixed :-)

drive it fast next time ;)

I've not read the full thread so I'm hoping someone can summarise for me!  I looked at and ended up buying a Fabia vRS yesterday, it's a year old next month.  The sales rep mentioned that it would burn oil but that this was normal.  However, now I've seen a couple of threads about oil I'm worried if I've made the right choice.  Is there a problem with the engines in the vRS?  Last thing I want to do is buy a car and keep taking it back to the dealers.

This linked thread might help.

& reading a few other vRS threads just in the past 3 pages or so, or you could go back for 3 years worth.

The sales person is right in that it 'Might Use Oil',

But it should not be using oil. if it is, it is not quite built right.  It is not normal with ones that do not use oil.

george

in my own opinion. I love the car. Drives beautiful. Looks good. Comfortable. Spaceous. Would i buy another?? No. Mine uses oil. Not as much as some. About 1litre every 3000 miles not not horrific as some but still not good. Now ive had problems with ignition barrel. Getting stuck in second gear. A rattling noise they "fixed" but now is worse but they said it was something to do with the clutch. But if i knew i could find a good one then i would get another but lets face it its a 50/50 gamble.

George,

Just spoken to the garage about my concerns if the car burns oil.  He once again told me it's normal as it's a sports car.  He said he'd never heard of any going back for engine replacements etc but then of course he would say that!  At least it's got 2 years warranty left on it so if anything goes wrong I'll be able to get it fixed.

Looking forward to driving it now though.

Enjoy.

Let the engine warm up from cold before ragging it.

Nothing wrong with the Sales Person pointing out the possible problem or just that there might be the need to top up with oil depending on driving style or usage.

Pity that more of them do not tell this to prospective buyers.

It is also a Pity that Skoda or Salespeople do not point out that if you want to drive sportingly, best be putting in 98/99 RON fuel.

The Salesperson might be best to get to know what is a bit of an issue with some of the cars he/she might be selling.

My brand new vRS has been booked into the workshop tomorrow for a correction to the steering pulling slightly left. However, today at 2200 miles on the clock the "check oil level" warning has popped up on the dash and indeed the dip stick is dry... I have to drive it 15 miles tomorrow to get to birchwood skoda so I will need to stop at the local automotive store to get a litre of oil.

The slightly concerning thing is that I checked the oil about 2 weeks ago and the level was showing half way up the hatched area on the end of the dip stick. I hope I haven't got an oil burner :-(

Your oil was low 2 weeks ago and probably if that was a hot dip, needed topping up then.  Any reason you decided not to?

How many miles done in 2 weeks?

Your car can be expected to use oil when running in for the first 3000 miles or so.

Unlikely to be a Oil Burner.

There are recent threads on the 'Pulling Left'.

Some members have said that the Dunlops are being changed for Pirelli Nero Zero, as instructed by Skoda.

Just read this here,

no idea if accurate or just what some Dealership has said.

in my case 800 miles later after new engine and the oil is a third of the way down the hatched part. Its not looking good, however it is a lot better than before

It is a new replacement engine is it not?

So you are running it in.

Hopefully now giving it some when the oil is warmed up.

??

Where was the level showing as it left the garage with the new engine fitted?

Just top up to the correct level,

run it with the correct level for a few thousand miles then see if it uses oil or not when run in.

** Do not over fill, it should have 3.6 litres of oil in.**

george

Hey George, took the car in to skoda today about the pulling left. They have to send it to the local Audi garage to do a full wheel balance apparently, courtesy car will be provided.

Anyway re: the oil. I delayed topping up because I knew I would be at skoda within a couple of days and they could top it up with the correct oil. It turned out that within a few days the oil level had gone well below the hatched area so I topped up with some Mobil fully synthetic 5w40 that met the VW 504 00 spec. It did only take 1 litre to take it up to max level, so not too bad I guess?

I will keep an eye on the oil level, doing as you recommended in the other oil thread (cold dip, momentarily turn over engine and off again, re-dip)

Loving the vRS though. Find myself cursing slow moving traffic much more than in my last vehicle.
