Today ... My Engine Overheating light came on.

I suspect it is the head gasket that has gone so I'm having the car looked at this weekend. This is after the electronics started to play funny buggers by making it so I can't lock/unlock any of my doors using the key fob or locking the boot at all (I can manually unlock the drivers door with the key) and the driver's side window control panel playing tricks by opening the opposite window.

So anyway, I get the feeling it's going to cost more money to fix it than it's actually worth so have been thinking of selling it to a breakers.

Can anybody recommend a place that will pay a fair amount for it as I don't really want to sell it for £50 :'( She's my baby afterall!

Or if anyone knows what the electric problem is, possibly give me some advice. It isn't pairing with the keys and the batteries have only just been changed so it's most definitely something more sinister!

Help a car novice girl out and give me some ides please :D

Thanks!

Should get £100 from most people that offer scrap car collection. Also, you might get some useful parts worth something that Mr scrap metal man won't care about beforehand.

Not sure about the electrical fault although I'm sure someone on here will be able to tell you what's wrong. Have you tried looking in the local meets forum to see if there are any skoda-heads having a knees up in your local area?

If you're set on scrapping it, I recently used http://www.removemycar.co.uk/ for my brother's old Skoda Felicia and they gave me £120 for it.

part it out you'll get the most money for it likely 3 times the amount as selling whole

If you do break it, does it have heated seats? If so can you PM me about the module for the seat heaters under the drivers' seat. Mine's fubarred :(

get the faults read first and with the HG what engine is it?.. and go from there electrical is not 2 bad depending on what it is. but if ya are thinking of breaking/selling cheap :) what colour is it

Before you write it off, are you sure its not just the thermostat stuck shut...very simple / cheap problem to solve but obviously quite nasty to what the impact is on the car...basically allows all the coolant to boil off and approximates a more expensive H/G issue....doesn't mean its knackered.

Experienced this F/hand (Fiat though) but I'm told most modern cars fail shut so maybe it could be

Ladies and Gentlemen! Thanks for all the assistance!

It was the engine oil which was causing the problem so all fixed!

The central locking is still fubarred though so I need to know where my Central Locking Module is and if anyone has done this before, how it is changed (I know a guy ;P )

Can anyone point me in the right direction pretty please??

It didn't have enough oil in it ?

Must have been quite low then, wonder if it has caused any engine wear, depends how long you have been running it for without enough oil - hopefully not too long

Have you got a spare key to eliminate its not just the battery in it or a faulty fob.... ? might not be as drastic as the conveniance unit, given the first issue you had best stick to basics first.....

Sorry I dont read these posts properly, it sounds like you have tried more than one fob and more than one key.

Sorry don't know much about this but involves the convenience unit module I think but may need some coding with the dash also, probably best to ask this in the vagcom area as well or call upon assistance of someone who has actually done this.

Its to ambitious for me (or least I haven't had the problem so haven't had to do it myself)

Might also be worth JUST getting someone to read faults using vagcom.....you can do this yourself with a shareware cable and vagcom lite, or find someone near to you with it. I would offer but sheffield to northants I dont suppose would be up your street.

One last thing I could add, the key pairing, have you tried resetting the fobs (Matching Remote Key Fobs to the car)

using the fabia vrs guide?
