In Car Cameras

Hi everyone....

Don't have time right now to read the whole thread... Looking for a camera but more for "black box" than for filming.

I'm thinking to this one

I just like to know if you have one to suggest...

The camera should be able to record continously (erasing early data when the camera is full), GPS and 1080p resolution are considered a +

Also which solution you used for power? More concerned on cable hiding than powering..

THanks,

Sino

I got a result on the fake memory cards - raised a return with Ebay just to annoy the seller after they tried to blackmail me to change feedback in exchange for a partial refund. They asked for photos

  • Can you actually see where you are going?!?!?!

  • OK, so if you remember, I ordered a cheap 720p dashcam from China, I saw several reviews that praised its video clarity, even at night, and with GPS included for £31 I couldnt really go wrong. Sadly,

Looking at these - are you running the extra long USB cable from the camera direct into the cig lighter adapter?

Wonder if the camera could sit in the mount but flat on the dashboard in the Superb?

The mount with the brass screw you can stick ( the brass threaded part can be removed)it down with double sided /Velcro provided camera just slides in

I got 2 of these - no GPS on them as they are to be rear mounted - but the image quality is pretty bloody good - you can read reg plates in day / night / rain / etc.

Take a look at my write up on fitting it to the vRS 2013 - Will be doing a similar one on the Fabia Monte Carlo soon.

I have a cheap and cheerful one that automatically starts recording when the cig lighter comes on - BUT my Superb cig lighter is always on! Can this be sorted? e.g. can I set the cig lighter to go off when the engine is off?

See post 118. page 4

Failing that check to see what fuse it goes too. Handbook will tell you.

Take feed out of said fuse & reposition to Ign switched fuse.

I encountered a problem today, I inserted my micro SD card into my laptop to review some footage from earlier in the day and I got a message saying there is a problem with the drive and it needs fixing, I ignored it initially to see what was on the card when auto play kicked in and it was pretty much empty, only my last trip was on the card, any ideas?

The camera is a Blackvue DR380G-HD

Thanks.

Have you formatted the card?

No, the card is as it arrived with the camera.  When I found the lack of footage I ejected, reinserted and followed the fix drive instructions,  I have been using the same camera and card for a while and this is the first problem I have had..

Evening All,

Just purchased the Transcend DrivePro 200 with the intention of installing it on to the rear screen.  So my queries are as follows;

Has anyone else installed one to the rear of an Octavia MKII estate?

How easy is it to do?

Phoned a few companies and so far the best quote I have received is about £85, thought they stated they would have to wire it via the front.  Would this be correct, as I vaguelly recall people hard wiring to rear light/wiper motor?

Many thanks,

Fin

Having taken a Blackvue out of a Fabia and now want to put it into my FL Yeti it looks like i will need some guidance in dismantiling in the drivers footwell.

As you can see from the picture the fuses are directly behind the panel in the top right, however the plastic panel under steering wheel is quite solidly fitted , so my question is - Has anyone unscrewed / unclipped this panel to access the space & if so how is it done ?

I do not want to damage a 2 week old car.

Not sure why you need to remove the panels Steve.

I wired the Backvue into the Superb like this:

As you can see there was enough room in the side panel to fit an additional cigarette lighter socket (so the OE Blackvue power cable plug straight in with no modification)

I intend doing the same when our Yeti arrives.

Hard wired obviously looks neater as you will barely see any wires (a tiny bit of cable can be seen where the power cable runs from the interior mirror up to the roof lining).

It obviously will take a little longer to fit this way, but it’s hardly difficult, you also do not ‘loose’ a power socket.

Plug it in is quicker, but you have the power cable running from the interior mirror down to the power socket - looks tacky IMO and it also alerts anyone walking by the car that you have something worth nicking fitted.

It’s your choice of course but for me ,,, hard wired every time!

So to confirm.

I would need those two parts posted above to hardwire it?

You don’t ‘need them’ as you could cut the plug off the cable and wire it direct to the fusebox.

But personally yes I would buy a ‘fuse tap’ and female cigarette lighter socket as it will be easier and fully reversible

$(KGrHqZ,!q!FG-Dd8Hh1BR282Gq(5Q~~60_1.JP390722082350_1.jpg1 of each 390722082350 & 321088781277. (e, bay) and wire in. Join red to red from fuse. Blk earth.

Cut plug end off camera wire, (cig plug) & wire into the yellow & Black.

I meant these two here/

Is that a step down voltage thingy?

Would I not need that or does the cam work from 12v ?

Warming to the idea of a camera but can see scumbags looking for them and helping themselves to them.

Or can they be removed each time?

The second part looks like it will just turn the power off when the battery voltage drops to a certain level to prevent the battery from going flat (you only need this if you are going to use it in ‘parking mode’)

Personally I don’t bother with the parking mode so mine is wired to an ignition fed fuse.

Parking mode is pretty important where I live.

some people just have no parking judgement :(

You can remove them each time you park up,

I'm looking too and I'm torn between the Roadhawk HD or the BlackVue DR550GW (GPS & Wi-Fi), but as insurance is now looming I think it can wait.

I've been reading over on Amazon, that there's an issue with some of the dual camera setups especially the Blackvue DR550GW, in that there appears to be insufficient shielding on the coaxial linkage between the two cameras and the insufficient shielding leads to the complete loss of DAB radio. There is a fix for it and that's an upgraded coaxial cable.

Anyone had any issues with this product in their car?
