I got a result on the fake memory cards - raised a return with Ebay just to annoy the seller after they tried to blackmail me to change feedback in exchange for a partial refund. They asked for photos

  • Can you actually see where you are going?!?!?!

  • OK, so if you remember, I ordered a cheap 720p dashcam from China, I saw several reviews that praised its video clarity, even at night, and with GPS included for £31 I couldnt really go wrong. Sadly,

How are you finding this as looking at the same model

I gots me an 0803 with GPS and 8gb internal. Been pretty good overall. The picture quality is very good. Had a few problems with it getting stuck when it boots, but you hold down the power button for 10 secs and it goes off and then try again. I updated to the latest firmware as I had a couple of issues with it not saving to the external SD card and all has been fine since. I do format the card periodically using the camera just in case.

As mentioned above. Sometimes ( twice since buying it ) It has froze when turning off the engine.

Other than that I dont even know it is there and am very pleased with it.
Certainly buying another one for the rear.

Here is one sample vid from it.

The driver in the Meganne was travelling behind the S-max in the overtaking lane,

and decided there was an easier route to take to overtake everyone

he was lucky not to clip my passenger wing.

Looks good Simbo. Nice install :)

What happened to the old one?

Not good enough spec or did it fail?

I wonder if the police would consider using footage if it helped them with a fatality brought about by dangerous driving,as they don't seem to have a problem using a tachograph to help in prosecutions with regard to driving offences or crime.

It will happen as you know some motorcyclists have been successfully prosecuted for speeding on there evidence alone, so why can't errant drivers be prosecuted with this evidence as long as you have a person as a witness as well to there bad driving, has anybody ever tested it out i wonder?

IMO most cheaper 720 cameras are just not up to the job, THE single most important bit of info I want to be able to read is a clear full registration plate, this is where some of the cheap ones usually fail.

They can, but you need as much info as possible on the recording (speed, GPS etc)

Cheers, Ste! :) It's still working, just the quality wasn't brilliant. Hard to make out number plates.

Gonna install the original in the rear screen. Just looking at different mounting options atm

All ok - sounds good.

Only asked as I know Alan's has cut out a few times; but always seems to recover eventually.

Not seen any footage off his but at the price... It's a bargain nonetheless less.

Yes youtube can do that, which does make choosing one more difficult

The techmoan bloke has some original footage for download for the dashcams he reviews on his website, so you can get a proper idea of the image quality.

First impressions are good, but not been well enough to fit it.

0803?

Yep. Seems sturdy enough and the footage (of the cat in the lounge) looks nice and sharp.

  • 2 weeks later...

The 0803 will be replaced with the 0806 (or 0805) in a few months - does the 0803 come with parking mode - reviews and specs seem to vary on it, and at the moment the only advantage I can see above a Mobius is the GPS mount?

It has a motion activation setting but I haven't used it. I run it off a switched live.

Cheers - I prefer the lower profile of the mobius, might go for that. Seeing as it will have to sit either just below or to the side of the lane assist camera, the smaller the better.

That'll suit me as have had to put off the camera for now as washing machine on the way out

Had my car reversed into whilst I was sitting in  it parked with the engine switched off, they admitted fault, then lied later saying I was reversing, its made my blood boil so I want to camera up the car with prosecution quality camera/s as the chances are the car will be hit again (5 times in less than a year already).  A bit of a minefield to me, would prefer all round protection or as a mi nimum front and back. Would be handy if they are easily removable to bolt on to my kitcar for track days etc.

What are my options, money wise, prefer to pay for quality, though don't want my pants pulled down.

Blackvue are the ones I favour! If not then Roadhawk, currently got a Roadhawk DR550GW which is a twin camera system fitted in my Clio which performs very well!

Beefy

Blackvue HD one give very good image quality, including number plates, I now have front & rear in the Yeti.

While the Roadhawk are also good, compared to the Blackvue they are quite bulky, I had a RoadHawk in the front of the Octy.

The RoadHawk images are good on the non HD camera but they have been late coming into the market with their HD version.

Whatever camera you choose, make sure you do some serious review checks, as lots of the cheaper ones have poor build & picture quality as you have seen from a few posts on here.

Another +1 for the BlackVue.  Mine's the DR380G HD.

Not cheap, but picture quality is excellent.

It cannot be seen from the driver's seat as it is hidden completely by the rear view mirror.
