I got a result on the fake memory cards - raised a return with Ebay just to annoy the seller after they tried to blackmail me to change feedback in exchange for a partial refund. They asked for photos

  • Can you actually see where you are going?!?!?!

  • OK, so if you remember, I ordered a cheap 720p dashcam from China, I saw several reviews that praised its video clarity, even at night, and with GPS included for £31 I couldnt really go wrong. Sadly,

Well it's arrived so thought I'd show what you get

A test drive of my Mobius ActionCam, on lit and unlit roads.

Can someone recommend me a camera which is under £70.

It needs to be small as not wanting a huge suction stand taking up the whole windscreen, needs to re-write once the memory is full so all i need to do is plug n go.

Pictures of peoples set ups would be a bonus just so i get an idea :)

FULL HD 1080P 2.7" LCD Car DVR Video Camera Recorder G-sensor Motion K6000
E bay Item Number 290985492892

For less than £20. Bargin...and it works very well.

It may seem cheapo. But it works fine.

The SD card comes out put it in the Large SD card reader and view your trip.

Very good for the price.

That seems suspiciously cheap!

Buy the mobious its amazing I've had all mine for under £70 and footage is awesome

That seems suspiciously cheap!

I suspect Carlo is the person selling it - having bought it and found it is complete tat.

Just a theory though.

The DR32 is pretty good, but it does lock up now and then; it does have some useful features that the Mobius lacks and the picture quality is just as good in day and night vision.

PS - nearly killed a kid today - if I get a chance I will upload the vid of his retarded mother pushing his buggy out from behind a parked van and almost under my wheels.

GG

I purchased one back in June for £28 thereabouts for my van.

Its been so good I have ordered another one £19.99.T go in the Rally car.

Ps. For under £20 you just cant go wrong. Still one day it probably will.

Right, i'm in the market for one of these now.  Been looking at the Black Vue range in particular, due to being a nice compact size to fit just behind the rear view.  I'm guessing it needs to be plugged in while driving and won't have a rechargeable battery? i know to use it for Parking, it needs to be connected to live how would that work when the ignition is off?

Can anyone provide a quick video from the BlackVue DR350 or one above it please?

You either wire it into an ignition live (for recording while driving) or a permanent live for it to activate parking mode when no G force is being sensed.

This is a selection of clips from a 380. (tail lift part clip is a 300)

Youtube does compress the info a bit or something, seems to lower the quality slightly.

Thanks Boss Fox.

Seems decent enough.  So I'm going to sound really thick here, but where would a permenent live be if the car has nothing going to it :S

You should be able to find one in the fuse box and piggyback off of it.  Hazard lights?

In the Skodas it's easy as the Fusebox is on the side of the dash, meaning it's a simple job to run the cable from the camera, round insside the headlining and down the inside of the A post.

Once you know what you are doing it's about 20 minutes to fit one.

Crikey you must of been pressing F5 waiting for me to reply. :giggle:

Ok sounds easy enough.  Recommend it for £130? Might purchase it tonight.

I would always reccomend Blackvue 380 or 400 as I've used them a lot.

But then I'm not independant and there are other options.

I personally believe that running over 100 380s for a year and having only 2 fail shows they are reliable, which gives me a biased view.

They've also saved me a fortune on my fleet insurance this year.

Okay Boss Fox, i'll take your word for it then going from that, one will be ordered tonight. :)

Thank you.

Ordered me and SWMBO a couple of camera's - I just know she will have a prang and the first thing she will do is get out and say "Sorry"..  Even after I tell her not too.

She's a good driver, but does (at times) drive a little "briskly", so hopefully this will slow her down.

Anyone got any advice on installing them in a Monte Carlo or Octy vRS estate?

I get the feeling I'm going to need some special tools to not scratch the internal plastics when removing trim and things.

Also - can the Amunsdun support an in car camera?  could I play back using the head unit?  either by wiring it in or putting the micro SD card into an SD adapter and playing it directly?

I did see one article on the net (non Skoda vehicle) where the guy had to demolish his dash to get it from his fusebox on the RHS all the way along past his head unit to the LHS, up the A pillar and across the headliner to the camera, then he ran a cable back down the same way to the headunit.. I thought that was a bit of a PITA but he might have had to do it because of the car.

What tools will I need?

What's the best route to wire it in?

I wil gladly document it with images for the site on both vehicles for anyone else that wants to do a similar project.

Cut plug end off camera wire, (cig plug) & wire into the yellow & Black.

No. The only camera tha Amundsen will support (if the interface is there) is a reversing camera. It has no playback facility.

It's a fairly easy install on an Octy II. Out the fusebox (in the side of the dash) straight up the a-pillar (popping off the trim) and then just tucked into the headlining across the top of the windscreen. I can't imagine an Octy III or Furby being that much different. (I have gone up the passenger side, but that's because my multi-socket power thingy is in the glove-box.) Just be aware of any curtain airbags, if you do have them, make sure the cable is routed behind them.

I picked up some trim-removal tools off ebay for a couple of quid. Saves the trim and your fingers. ;)

Thanks for the adivce to everyone - Will await delivery and document both installs if it's any good to anyone.

One final question - Is there any chance of setting off the airbag accidentally?  do I need to take any precautions before working around an airbag?

Ordered 2 of each - thanks for this.

I got a Blackvue 380 from the OP after being recommended by Bossfox. It arrived next day and was a doddle to fit. It's very discreet too and sits nicely out of sight behind the rear view mirror. If I had a minor criticism it would be that the unit is obviously designed for LHD cars as the led ring that lights up when its initiaising is on our passenger side so is invisible to the driver. Not bothered to see what the quality is like though at 15fps in HD which is the 1 setting below max IIRC it should be good enough and I think it keeps around 11 hrs of footage if I ever get insomnia. Just hope I never have to rely on the footage....

One final question - Is there any chance of setting off the airbag accidentally?  do I need to take any precautions before working around an airbag?

You could try accidently hitting it with a hammer. ;)

The only major precaution to take is to ensure the wires stay away from the airbag, otherwise if it does get deployed you'll have angry wire coming towards you at unhealthy speeds. Obviously try to keep the wiring away from any other wiring for the airbag too. Other than that, airbags are fairly docile creatures. I've dropped a steeringwheel one from a Felicia: still intact.

This is assuming you have airbags in the A-Pillar in the first place. The manual or the boot sticker should be helpful for that.

If you check I think you'll find the airbags are either in the sides of the seats or the roof lining.

So no chance of shorting one out and setting it off?  Great..  any accidents, I'll be filing a complaint with you  :giggle:   j/k.. Thanks for the info
