Steel Wheels

Featured Replies

Hello. Will Golf Mk4 steel wheels (14" 6J) make a direct replacement for standard Skoda fabia 14" steel rims?

Reason I ask is I've seen a set at a breakers for a very reasonable price, which I though would make a good winter tyre set of rims so I'm ready for next winter (probably a bit late in the season to be changing wheel now, even though winter seems to be dragging on forever!)

Any help you can offer will be appreciated!

Have got a set of golf mk4 steel wheels with winter tyres for my Fabia VRS and have used for past two winters.

OK. Brilliant and thanks!

Do you know if they're the same width as the standard Skoda ones? It'll make buying tyres easier if they are.

The ones I have are 15 inch, will check Tyre size tomorrow for you, too bloody cold to go out to the shed tonight. lol

Ah, OK. the one's I'm looking at are 14" 6J (Being a bit of a novice, I'm not sure what the 6J means, but it's the same on the skoda wheels.)

I know the Skoda Wheel trims probably won't fit though... I'm not really that bothered about that though.

I think I've answered my own question there?

OK, I've done some digging and worked something out. they're identical in every way except for the offset.

The Skoda Fabia Steelies have an offset of 43, whereas the Golf Mk4 ones have an offset of 38.

Will this be important/make any real difference?

If you want 4 Fabia 14" 6J steels with tyres you can have 4 of mine. I'm coming up to Sheffield on the 5th April to my daughter's in Nether Edge. If you want them you can have them for free if you pick up from there that weekend. PM me with your phone no if you want them and we'll arrange things.

If you are running the four golf ones then it will be fine, or even just 2 on the front or 2 on the rear will be ok. The difference int the et means the face of the golf wheels will be 5mm closer to the arch. Book says fabia recommended et is 35-42 so you will be fine.

I've sent you a PM Peter!

If we can't work something out, I'm sure the Golf wheels will do the job fine (if they're still available!)

Thanks all for your help. :sun:

My last set on eBay cost me £21 inc tyres, admittedly 3 of tyres were knackered, but the 4th was brand new and all four hub caps were great. Point is if you keep a look out you can usually find steels for next to nothing.

Yes, that's why I was looking at the Golf Mk4 wheels, as the Skoda ones seem like Hen's teeth at the moment. A breaker quoted me £168 for without tyres... they're only £40 each new from Skodaparts :S

I have a brand new set of 14" 6J steels with new wheel trims, no tyres, delivery mileage only - Cheshire area.

It wouldn't be the first time a breaker tried to charge more for a used part than a franchised dealer wanted for the same part new.

Well, this is one breaker that won't be getting any cash. These 4 are going for free.

If anyone wants another 4 and are willing to travel to north Northamptonshire to collect they are going free.

Thanks mogwye, I'm all sorted now thanks to Peter's kind offer.

Which really baffles me. You'd expect used to be around half the price of off-the shelf new. Any more expensive and it's a no-go for me.

The one thing about the "6J" is that it is this rim will be wider than that originally fitted, check your original wheels as they should also have "?J" stamped on them. Wider rims are for use with wider tyres. If you leave this "purchase" until after summer, and buy on-line from somewhere like "Mytyres" in Germany, they sell the correct rims with tyres fitted for not too much money. I tried sourcing a set of the correct 14" steels for my wife's 9N Polo and gave up after a few months as most of the 14" wheels were too narrow - ie for a "lesser" model level and I was wanting wheels for 185/55's.

5 stud 6J x14" rims with 185/60-14 tyres are standard fitment on most of the Fabias that are not VRS models. Classics were fitted with narrower wheels as standard. A great number of Polos were also fitted with the same 6J rims as I buy unused spares from Polos for my Fabia.

My car currently has 185 60 14 tyres on, so I guess the rims are 6J. I had a quick look at one of the rims and couldn't see anything stamped on them (that doesn't mean I looked in the right place though!)

They are 6Js

They are 6Js

Thanks. I noticed today when parked next to a fabia classic that the wheels on the other car were noticeably narrower. I suppose that saved a few bob when pricing up the basic spec.

I may have another 4 in the garage. I'll PM you on Thursday, assuming my flight from Cyprus gets in on time. It will be pick up only but they will be free.

Hi Pete

Will these Steels fit a fabia vRS? This is the first time I'm going to winter tyres so I'm just researching the cheapest best winter tyre and wheel combo.

Thanks

Jonathan
