New Golf R

Featured Replies

Glad it put a smile on your face.

Country roads or town /main roads.?

Cross country road, in dodgy conditions is where it excels

Quiet country roads.  One ideal very twisty bit for a few miles.

If the head salesman asks I definitely didn't have it sliding sideways round a corner with a fair amount of tyre squeal.

Grip is impressive, you really have to man handle it to make it lose traction.

Have to say I was quite smitten.

Golf R on Monday, although I have to say that on looks I kind of prefer the S3 oddly if price wasn't an issue.  Personal choice and all that...

Looks nice in the metallic red, have now seen one in the metal and had a poke around it.

Would be my choice.  Most Audi colours are very boring.

The lease deals on the golf are seriously cheap! Are the golf's AWD too? Out of interest Richard are you going for a manual, I'm making an assumption you'll be ordering your preferred model on Monday...

I know a chap whose just ordered himself a Golf R on a lease. It's 'poverty spec' but just £2400 down then £179.99 per month including vat. Bonkers good value!

Richard out of interest have you taken an M135i for a testdrive? If so would like to hear your thoughts vs S3/golf R.

To be honest I have not considered the Baby BMW.  Might see about a drive though,

Mainly because my plan involves trying to get my wife out of her Yeti long term, so it needs to be an all year round car.

For that I'm not convinced on it being RWD only (although it probably makes it fun) and it's also ugly, I find the looks quite questionable. (IMO, but then I also found everyone's babies ugly other than mine :D)

Yeah I'd definitely get a testdrive sorted just for comparison sake if nothing else. They are a lot of fun! Contrary to popular belief wet weather grip is actually very good unless you are driving like a compete tool. I see what you mean about the looks, definitely an acquired taste. Personally I think the M135i looks gorgeous but then again I am rather biased lol!

True that mate. Tyre choice is king.

Like the illusion that some 4x4 drivers seem to have in the snow when they come flying past at about 50mph. N you're thinking, good luck tryna stop mate.

A few years back when we got clobbered with snow (about 6" deep) not even 4x4's could get up the hill, although a discovery made it 1/3 of the way up before sliding all the way back down to cheers from onlookers.

Haha. Everybody loves a trier.

Thats what youve gotta bare in mind in snow isnt it. Its not always getting up, its coming back down thats the problem.

Boss,

One for you before tomorrow's TEST!

Doesn't look so impressive parked in a row of normal Golfs. ;)

I like to think thatll be bossfox driving and the salesman clinging and looking concerned on tomorrows test drive.

That's what the S3 test looked like. :D

And shortly to be the Golf R test drive. :D

I'm not sure how accomodating they'll be.

Audi were very.  At one point we were a bit sideways with tyre squeal.

Didn't get a peep out of the saleman, but he did thank me afterwards. :D

Hahaa. Good stuff.

He probably wasnt too worried cos he could tell you can drive.

Its when people cant drive and they start trying to drive fast that scares me! Haha.

Did you ask the salesman to come equipped with Brown Trousers.

Sounds like a proper test drive Richard.... awesome!

There is nothing better than silencing a salesman and his annoying test drive banter with

achieving some air, getting regular tyre squeal and at some point enabling launch control.

...shut-up and let me drive man!

Oh.... and as the last guy had the cheek to ask - Yes; this is how i drive my own car (when safe to do so of course)

Perhaps if it's replacing the missus's Yeti ,you will have to do a Furbytom and wait for the R Estate ,on a 15 plate or whenever it arrives in UK. Plenty of time to convince her then.

Enjoy the drive!

Well. Tbf. If you're test driving an R or an S3 you're obviously into fast cars.

Your obv gonna want a test drive where you can test its performance properly.

Be wrong for them not to let you aha.
