  • Wow! A bit of a fly on the wall comment in jest has been turned into me supposedly taking the credit for the size of the thread!?! Err...ok...   Just to clarify, I have far more important things to

  • Apologies is this thread is going a bit "off topic", but I'll carry on anyway as there is Golf R content... This is my personal experience of the S3, Golf R and M135i and the respective test drives.

I got over £5K off a pre-reg new car similar spec -(25 miles on clock) and a good PX deal from Northampton VW .

Theres good deals to be had like that isnt there.

My neighbour got a pre registered Renault mega be estate for £8000 less than the list price. Got it for about £12k i think. Quite a steal IMO.

I made one -it's up to you.

Business persons should never dither.

Always go with your gut feel!

I'd better get onto Preston Motors and order another Roomster then!

One day I'll get the hang of this business thing. :)

Then start a Roomster Santa Pod thread

Nice one Richard, quite fancy the Golf R when I change mine but head says no given the mileage I do and my driving style. Its been mentioned maybe take a look at the R400 when it arrives should be a decent bit of kit, though as you say there's some great cars out there at the moment

You could take the Clio to that and it might stand more of a chance down the strip haha

On the back of a recovery truck?

On the back of a recovery truck?

Ahh ok is it off the road at the moment then?

To be fair you'd probably be able to waste most roomsters down a drag strip in a recovery truck, with or without a Clio on the back ;-)

No it's fine at the minute and yeah I could whilst the drivers are trying to find their Werthers Originals

Suggest that there are still a few R'S with good spec's around if anyone was serious about finding them. Took me about two weeks of browsing - VW Used website and Autotrader and a few phone call to find stock holdings.

Once I'd concluded, after my various test drives, of the different models and makes.

Very pleased with the end result as I'm sure you will be able to read from my "living with " comment on this thread.

It may well be a keeper, until the R400 comes along or something else exceptional at sensible money twisting my arm again.

With the right deal

Come on Keith, show us your quad pipes lol

Will get around to it sometime, sorry about that Tom.

Tom, nothing special just a run of the mill R , in Lapiz Blue with a decent spec. You know the one!

My last 4 cars, I've done the deal over the internet, on total trust/honesty from photos etc. travelling some 120 miles to each dealer . Saving a few grand in the process also timing in the month / year very important also.

Think it's called shopping around - having made some good contacts in the process as well.

Servicing always done local at trusted dealers .

Yes shopping around always a good plan. I usually cast the net far and wide when buying my cars and as you say have frequently done business over the phone and via email to achieve the best deal. Sometimes feels odd meeting the sales guy for the first time on collection day tho! :-)

So I bought a Roomster today.  As advised by Keith.

Then found out my local VW garage seem keen to do me a Golf R with about £4k off...

I did have one two months ago, a "Black Edition".

It lacked cruise, bluetooth and maxi-dot so I sold it after a week.

Ordered another.

So is this going to be a Roomster-R with a transplanted golf R lump and 4WD running gear?
