  • Wow! A bit of a fly on the wall comment in jest has been turned into me supposedly taking the credit for the size of the thread!?! Err...ok...   Just to clarify, I have far more important things to

  • Apologies is this thread is going a bit "off topic", but I'll carry on anyway as there is Golf R content... This is my personal experience of the S3, Golf R and M135i and the respective test drives.

Haven't seen one within a 20 miles radius of my place, in nearly the three months I've had mine.

I still get quite a few approving looks and nice comments from observers.

So very happy with the rarity and also depreciations values shown by the mk6 version,so I think mine will hold up okay.

I pass one on the way to work although I only realised it was an R when I looked in my mirror to see the exhausts, it looks a bit of a sleeper from the front.

They do.

I went past my uncles yesterday and thought theres no way youd know its a 300hp 4x4 hatch.

I then saw a GTD and thought that might even stand out abit more haha

I see an average of two every day.

Most are blue, with the rest being white.

They don't jump out at you though, you have to look for the badge or four tailpipes.

Boss,

Perhaps they will sort out the GT-R issues in the 2017 model

Well. 550bhp is never going to be easily tamed, especially in the wet.

I have distinct memories of 4 wheel spin, sliding, and the street lamps quickly becoming blurry the first night my mate showed me how well it went on a dark wet night.

Corners. Well. He just parks it up n takes the vw caddy when its wet. Its less of a handful.

Yup this ones a light blue.

I've said before on here.

I'm not fond of the red.

A red golf needs to be a gti, and the R needs to be blue IMO.

Seems a reasonable place to drop this.... i hope no one minds in this instance.

14-plate Golf R stolen overnight... Police have said get it on social media so that's what I'm doing.

3-door Golf R. Reg is MW14 URN stolen at some point last night from house in the Over Hulton area.

Please share where you can....

That would be most upsetting - thanks for the tip -off. Is it a keyless option version.

It's just like mine, feel very sorry for the owner!

I am following the original thread - confirmed it was not keyless entry.

Access to the house to get the keys for the car...

Blue and a five door IMO. :)

Still annoyed I had to buy a three door Fiesta ST!

Cheers,my keys are hidden away day and night.

Or may be even the BMW M135i -Tom

Haha! No chance of that I love the M-lite way too much lol. If I had to have only one car to do everything including family load lugging duty then the R-estate would be top choice tho.

Move to Mexico or just import one ;) would you use it as a family car if there was one?

Question time...

Why does everyone seem to be raving about the Golf R, but hearing little about the S3?

They are effectively the same car, but logically the Audi should be a little nicer inside.

I'm going to take a guess at it being something to do with VW haven't made a quick car like this recently that's 300bhp where as Audi do all the time. Having been in an S3 I'd agree it's nicer inside.

I was wondering if it's just because the Golf R is far better value with all the cheap deals.

Audi don't seem to be giving them away to businesses for less than £50 per week like VW are.

The 'S3 Saloon', is very nice. IMO  A nice car to be in and drive.

The reason many go on about the Golf R is because they are prepared or interested in being VW driver / owners.

Many will never aspire to be a Audi owner because they know how they and others see them.

That might be up their jacksy too close quite often.

Made obviously by the rather odd car lighting and aggressive looking fronts to many of the Audi.

Not all Audi drivers are like that obviously,

but there are enough tramping up and down the country on business acting that way.

Yeah I've read that on CS which is full of ST owners and R owners and they all say the lease deals were seriously good.

Around £180 per month plus VAT on a lease if you do low miles over two years.

Cheaper than buying a new Fiesta ST or Skoda Fabia VRS and watching it depreciate possibly...

I suspect an Audi Lease is a fair whack more and being an Audi you'll probably lose a bigger sum initially on the car.

I my view, but guess I'm a little biased, the Golf looks better and more aggressive front end, One of my youthful friends tells me.. Where as the Audi started to look dated,as the changes in Sept 13 look minor compared to the previous model.

My Partner's neighbour  bought a 63 plate new model and put my R alongside,as we often do and it's no contest!

Think the R handles better, driven both and something is better in the set up or the R.

EVO , 'Car of the year issue'.  No. 203,

Pages 104-103 are worth a read.

Maybe not No.1 with them,

but then it is the one i am most likely to be able to own,

& haven driven one, the one that IMO suits the roads they were driving best and as a Daily Drive.
