New Golf R

Featured Replies

So is this going to be a Roomster-R with a transplanted golf R lump and 4WD running gear?

Unlikely.

Time, enthusiam and the serious boredom of waiting for stuff to be done makes future mad projects like the Citigo unfeasible.

If I ran one car, I'd get a Golf R tomorrow.

But I'm very fortunate that I don't, so am able to have a more comfortable work plodder and a more bonkers track day car that tries to bite me.

As an all in one package, it is a great car though.  And sensibly priced for it's abilities too.

Aye I've been playing with a few ideas in my head, practicality, cost, time and patience of course. I'm considering my two car policy for something track-ish and nice to and fro work, I'd not want to ruin the low mileage Octavia however it is a nice and comfy car to and from work.... We shall see what the future holds... and how much my dealer can get me a good deal on a R ;)

I went through this phase with the Skyline.

Then thought, cobblers, use it and enjoy it.

Any increase in value over the next 10-20 years compared to the hassle of pampering it, servicing it, maintaining it and then seeing it's gone up in value by £10-20 per week...

Like the FGFs, if I am lucky they might go up by £1 per week if I pamper them.  Use and abuse!

Boss,

You might get a reasonable trade-in for the Fiesta ST Mountune, unless you have shifted it already.

Oh! and the wife's Yeti, good bit of Downsizing!

Great deal

Too late, I put a holding deposit on a forthcoming Audi RS3 today...

I'll have a massive fleet downsize around arrival time.

Well done good business if you can also get some committed discount up front. (Gone with Gut and Balls on the line then.)

Furbytom might also be reviewing the M135i replacement by then

But will it be a better package than the R400,think I'll wait and study the reviews -plus get some good mileage out of this motor and have some Fun!

Good Ideal to clear out, must do that in my household and earn some cash from my crap!

Any inside knowledge to spec and selling price? 370bhp/ Torks, manual and  or DSG etc? 3 DR or Sportback?

It will be also interesting  to see how it will compare with the MB A45 AMG- £ for £. I would guess, in the meantime MB will give the A45 some extra grunt etc.

Always refundable caveat Boss, should you change your mind.

Exactly.

Not so interested in the Golf 400, but can always change your mind anyway.

Sensible year for 2015, will be upgrading but downsizing.

APR already do a kit that's 500-600bhp on the older 2.5tfsi anyway. If tuning is your thing.

Exactly.

I approve of the RS3 and think you've totally lost the plot :D

I reckon the New RS3 could well be my next car in 2016. Long way off, but it sounds perfect. The only thing letting the previous model down was the handling, & they reckon that fixed.

Only available in sport wagon aswell, so fits in well with my 'one-car-fits-all' strategy too :D

Genuinely no idea what I could possibly replace the M135i with that would provide the same level of fun and performance and which I could also reasonably afford. Next step up would be an M3/M4 but we are talking not far off double the cost for one of those :-(

M2 should be out next year which might be worth a shout but again much more expensive. There are rumours of an M1 or M140i tho....

I'd have a look at the RS3 for sure but now I've had a taste of the dark side by getting a bmw tbh I don't think I could ever be without one on the drive. Happy to run a VAG group car as our 'second' motor tho so still hoping to persuade SWMBO into a Golf R estate..... :-)

You know things are going well when the second car is a Golf R :D

Having been taken out for a we run by a Porsche salesperson that does not need to sell, 'because they sell themselves',

a Porsche Macan will stay as number one on my wish list.

A Macan Turbo would be really nice, but i would not turn my nose up as a Macan S,

one would more than do this one.

It really is a pretty wonderful car IMO.

AGREE!!

You already know my views on this car / range top to bottom.

Bloody good!

Haha well it would be slightly over-the-top if I'm honest and quite possibly a waste of cash but we'll see. What's happening here? I'm convincing myself out of it! Did SWMBO send you......?! Lol ;-)

You only live once.

As long as the important things in life are taken care of (which are far more important than cars) why not? :D

Tom,

Tend to agree with you, the R 400 or whatever will have to justify the undoubted extra outlay for me to change from this R.

That's a good look at 5:55. ( I skipped to the middle rather than watch the whole thing)
