New Golf R

Featured Replies

Waitrose might have them on the magazine rack.

It is a good issue.'203'.

They are running a Skoda Octavia vRS in 'Fast Fleet',

Nissan GTR, Seat Cupra 280, Ford Fiesta ST & a Golf GTI among others.  Something for everyone.

Best issue i have read since the one before this.

Cheers George.

Does this apply to only highbrow supermarkets or has Lidl or Aldi now discounting Evo mag.

I have Subscription now and i forget how many free 'Tool Kits' and 'MER Car Care Kits' i now have.

I think that was the 5 for £5, then £25 for 6 issue offer.

I forget, i cancel the DD before the 6th issues are due.

Every Penny counts, 'many a mickle maks a muckle' and all that,

Saving hard for a Fast VAG Hatch.

Boss,

Could you link or send me a copy of that article in Evo,  as I've not seen it.

Cheers.

Keith

PS. I see that VW have applied a minor increase in the base price model. £29990 to £30150.

Has there been a general price review by VW lately?

Here is the link, but you need to get the magazine really.

I was in an Audi dealer today and noticed the S3 starts at around the same price as the Golf R now, very little in it.

I know they are similar, but very little in it now.  Would be interesting to compare the standard spec.

Although the Audi is far more expensive to buy if you get the cheapest (lease) option.

This morning you could still get a Golf R in base spec for £229 per month + VAT online. (23 + 3 payments)

Ohh no, I knew he'd be getting another Audi soon, :( ;) so the prices have dropped on the S3 from what they were then :)

S3 starts from £30,645.

Oddly the S1 is only £5k cheaper, but is smaller, less practical, less powerful and doesn't drive as well.

That explains why I've only ever seen one S1 then, and loads of new S3's?

Audi used website is full of S1 demos at high prices - starting about £24500 approx. to about £31000.

Nice car.

I wouldnt pay £31k for one though.

Just too much for such a little car

Sorry trying to post spec etc but failed

Audi Used website S1 demo / 1 owner: 53 examples average selling price £27400. Note! 26 are 3 door, so about a 50/50 split in showrooms nationally.

Interesting that Audi didn't appear to do the deal package that VW did with the Golf R.

Unless you know better?

It will be interesting to observe these car and see if they are forced to start discounting demos and or new orders.

Boss,

Note on Audi used website /demo /1 owner S3 latest spec, many more S3 than R on the VW website.(Not selling at the offers currently?)

Looks to be some good spec cars for reasonable money- in some cases lower that the top priced S1indicated previously.

I did a base price configurator earlier and got £30950 for S3.

Golf R test drive on Monday. :)

With possibility of purchase? You're a nutter :)

Golf R test drive on Monday. :)

Hopefully looking at an S3 over the weekend too.

Curious what the differences actually are as they are so close in price.

Golf R the next BossFox chariot then! Get some pics up when you take delivery lol

Boss,

Enjoy the experience and have some fun.

Golf slightly sharper handling.

Audi slightly better interior.

Performance identical.

Looks wise, new S3 looks like a slighlty smaller S4, which looks like a smaller S5....S6.....

Golf R looks like any other golf but with fancy lights and quad pipes (not abad thing BTW, it's good looking car :) )

Enjoy, they are both cracking cars :)

That's why I'd be tempted by a lease rather than buying like I usually do.  If I was getting one of course.

I don't know the sales figures, but it's likely there are a lot of them out there as the deals were so good.

Estate.  Mmmm.....

I saw that EVO did the best 10 driving cars for 2014 recently.

No S3 in there to compare, but the S1 came 10th and the Golf R 4th... behind a Ferrari, Jag and the Porker.

Boss and George,

Got the Evo Mag today, very interesting article

Oh ! Some good shots up near your Native Land George.

Fantastic location to drive these handsome motors - green with envy!

Tested the S3 this afternoon.

Plenty of grip, enough power for a smile.

Not bad spec as standard.  Needs a few things but nothing crazy.  Driver assistance pack decent value.

Makes you wonder what the RS3 will be like next year...

Glad it put a smile on your face.

Country roads or town /main roads.?

Cross country road, in dodgy conditions is where it excels

It's my number one mission to somehow persuade SWMBO that she needs this as her next car:
