New Golf R

Featured Replies

I am not usually a fan of White cars.

But the Golf R in white really is a Q Car.   many do not know what 'r' means and might think it is the VW Style line like the 'Polo R Line.'

(not Polo R WRC)

In white it is just the Quad pipes that give away what might be in front.

When behind you a White one is not very imposing, or hinting at what is about to pass you and pass very quickly if the driver wants.

  • Wow! A bit of a fly on the wall comment in jest has been turned into me supposedly taking the credit for the size of the thread!?! Err...ok...   Just to clarify, I have far more important things to

  • Apologies is this thread is going a bit "off topic", but I'll carry on anyway as there is Golf R content... This is my personal experience of the S3, Golf R and M135i and the respective test drives.

I agree. You cant really tell what it is at all. Just looks like a nice golf.

Hes changed from a 12 plate gti to this new R. Both in red, the less clued up about cars havent even noticed hes changed, until hes said.

The only give aways really are the 4 pipes and the '64' on the plate.

Only the exhaust hints its something special. Many wont realise its a 300hp 4 motion hatch.

I think there might only be 1,500 or so of the MK7 Golf R in the UK.

So maybe the most desirable to attempt to steal,

or the same vehicles are being stolen more than once.

It would be interesting if anyone knows how many there are on the UK Roads and how many have been already Stolen.

Stolen right from the Dealership is becoming popular,

Delivery Mileage only, some must think 'stuff stealing Used ones' !!!

More than I thought of them

1500 wow. There's only 148 R36s in the uk . That means in three years it might be on my radar. Lets hope the A45 goes the same way

Best car in the wet?

A panda 4x4?

Literally Zero risk of any loss of traction.. Haha.

Interesting read.... thanks for posting this up

Prefer that to the hatch i do!

Same here. Perfect car for me!

Each to their own needs I guess.

Hatch doing cross-country roads, is something else.

Good report from Pistonheads George.

Here's one for BossFox to view.

Just seen it.

Not a bad feature, GT-R let down by it's mass, as usual.

And poo tyres in the wet which are more like a road/trackday tyre.

Golf R is a seriously good car and I've been very tempted to get one.

But there is no point as it can't do everything I do.  And it just looks like a Golf, which has it's positives and negatives about blending in.

I need more than one car, it makes more sense to have things that do the different roles I need better.

As an allround car, it's a very accomplished package though.

Not needs. I've got a fabia hatch and dont need any more room haha.

Just sometimes an estate looks better IMO. The lines flow better.

Im sure the estate wouldnt be too far behind the hatch? The wheelbase and weight wont be too far out?

I do know what you mean about a hatch on country roads. Just so much easier to chuck around then a big wide heavy car.

I imagine a golf r would be pretty damn good at narrow country roads.

My uncle never showed me what it would do in the corners. He blaims 'getting old', but personally i think he does drive it fast, just not when im in it cos he'd feel he has to step up the game if he starts tryin to haha

The estate is usually only slightly slower, like 0.1 second to 60mph judging by other performance cars with both bodystyles.

In the real world, it's nothing.

You'd gain or lose something like that by tyre choice anyway so in the real world it's the same.

Boss,

Perhaps they will sort out the GT-R issues in the 2017 model

Not around twisty country roads-real world near me.

It doesn't really have issues.

It's just not the ideal car for wet weather out of every car on the market.

Perfectly capable, yes.

But people seem to think it needs to be the BEST at everything, which is a bit of a big expectation.

In the dry it's very good, in the wet it's still very good.  It's just not quite a good as a more nimble Golf R (according to the test, i have no experience) that's a hell of a lot lighter.

Fact is, it's an amazing peice of engineering, can be driven really quickly by a one handed kebab eating noob. :D

It's just not the best car in the world.  Ever.  In all conditions. :)
