  • Apologies is this thread is going a bit "off topic", but I'll carry on anyway as there is Golf R content... This is my personal experience of the S3, Golf R and M135i and the respective test drives.

Interesting review but is it a four seater or 2+2.

One omission here is the projected 5 door model I guess ,yet to be released or launched in a production version.

Read a brief review somewhere recently.

Love the game they play with bhp- 217,231,280,296,310 soon to be 396 + .

Why then 2.5 - 5 in the Audi RS3? (376BHP?)

Wasn't sideways enough then

Just very sedate, calm , quiet and urm, boring? Compared to the GTR i was in 5 mins before.

Probably because some people care more about quoting a bhp figure.

To me the 5 pot sounds better and a larger cubic capacity is happier to spin up turbos quicker amongst other things.

The 5 pot is well liked by some Audi types due to history with a previous old engine with the same number of cylinders.

You can do a lot with clever turbos these days, but it's generally better to start with more cylinders and a higher cubic capacity.

another words "aint no replacement for displacement"

Yup. I tend to agree!

Apart from 'Harley Davidsons', or any American car manufacturer.

They can keep theirs.

I've been meaning to ask somebody in the know. How do they manage to make such little bhp and torque out of such a high displacement?

Some Skoda action & slippy & nippy (cold action.)

Obviously AWD and the correct tyres for the conditions top trumps.

Oh! and a driver with his brain in gear, relative to the condition helps as well me thinks, but appreciate the point being made!.

Have seen it before George makes a very good point.

I guess, in your neck of the woods,it's very important, however down South we experience far less of the white stuff and ice than you guys, so we are always confused in such conditions anyway..

Now going to bugger off out and thrash the car in the slippery drying condition before the snow comes!

Yeah. I wanna see how good a 4wd yeti on winter tyres is in the snow. I bet theyre pretty damn good.

Put it into youtube, BossFox has a video as the second result after this one

Well Harley Davidsons have an overhead valve like most bikes were until the mid seventies, the equivalent of a Ford Pilot side valve  . They have torque but no power, just for mid life crisis midgets !  :peek:

Sorry OT,

but, 'Not many know!', The Davidson part comes from good old Scottish folk.

So they knew about horse power & engineering back when.

Many Harley Davidson owners from around the world are visiting Angus.

Hmm. Not changed much have they!

Dad had a 2010 model 1600cc. Said the torque was alright, but it wouldnt stop or corner for toffee.

Its like the diesel in the bike world IMO

Short revving, torque, but abit boorriinngggg.

Furbytom,

Giving away a Harley next, with a Golf R as a summer option pack to compete with New RS3 and Pano Roof

They are.

It would appear the Germans are moving from battling it out with crazy fast premium saloons/estates (M3/M5/C63/E63/RS4/RS6) to the smaller hatchbacks.

There are going to be some "super-hatches" available over the next few years by the looks of it.

The Big 'Electric Supercharger' / Turbo Diesel / Hybrid Audi & other VWG cars are coming.

Just now they are getting on with the Big & supposed economic 'Ultra's. (not the football Casuals)

Lots of Show and Business users not much go, but enough for tramping on.

& they get on with building the other 'Green' and pretty pathetic 'Euro 6 emission' engines so that they can get away with Building and Selling

enough Interesting cars to those in World Regions that will buy them in huge numbers.
