New Golf R

Nice price.

Not 100% about all that power in a front wheel drive car on the roads you commute down, but then you don't have to thrash it all the time. :)

Same here, but I'm sure I've read it's got a little electronic diff trickery somewhere. Soon find out anyway!. Ride is so much better than the Octy, which fidgets like a kid overdosed on smarties; not good at 120 on an autobahn. Hopefully the much improved ride I noticed will translate to better high speed stability, without losing any agility and turn in fun!

I'd post some pictues, but tapatalk has gone stupid with me, and won't let me log in.  Never been able to do it from my PC either....

It has a proper mechanical limited diff apparently, it gets better!

Thats true! Wonder how much extra a golf weighs...

Its the gear changes that take time though isnt it, i guess. Theres a moment there where no progress is made.

1421 kg vs 1495kg for the R according to Autocar.

If it hadn't been for Sutters video, I might not have done it. If he thinks it's slightly faster, that will do for me! The caveat of course is 4WD in the wet, and more critically snow/ice. I live on a hill.....I guess I need a full set of Uniroyal winters next week.

In needs it.

140bhp per driven tyre instead of 74bhp per tyre in the Golf R. (roughtly)

Interestingly both autocar and auto express found it was quicker around a dry lap.

It will be.

Better power to weight ratio and less drivetrain losses.

I like 4x4 because I live in the UK.

I can use it in a spirited manner 365 days per year. :)

Money no object I'd have probably bought the golf. I'd expected it have handled better than the seat, but the Internet concensus is the opposite. Cold wet days are indeed altogether a different thing, but I've managed without any problems with the octy wearing winter rubber, and let's be honest no one's going to be 10/10ths when it's icy or snowy.

I never go 10/10th anyway. Always leave some in it for correction if something unexpected happens. Oil etc etc.

Im sure youll enjoy it. Its a nice car!

Whens it coming? ;)

Did Seat give you a better test drive in the 280? Doesn't sound like VW were very accommodating!

Yes, but that's because the car they were selling was there. The vw dealer didn't have a demonstrator, though I did manage to drive one. A longer test drive wouldn't have changed the outcome, the price delta simply too big.

Picking up both Monday. Will miss the octy though, it's been a very faithful companion, and at times massively grin inducing to drive.

It's going to be a long weekend waiting for Monday to come around! :-)

Is the Leon 280 a pre-registered car at that price or a demo?

No.

This is good about the Golf R estate on Sniff Petrol. :D

Do I need room for my bike or whatever.

Might have to consider my future options, now the Golf R Estate coming next summer - what will it be, a super PCP /cash......  ?

Or may be wait for the R400 Estate. 2016?

Or may be save money on a Leon 280 ST Estate or an Octavia vRS R Estate.

Such VAG choice going forward

Mustn't forget Audi RS3 -Sportback or who knows an Estate

PS.Could there even be:

Polo GTI Estate or could it be a Skoda MK3 R Estate?

The point was that the Golf R was being discussed on just about every car forum out there and loads of people appeared to be ordering them.

Not that they were actually common. :)

Tom,

How many M135i's have been sold in the UK with BMW attractive finance deals?

According to "how many left" there are 2483 Autos and 777 Manual cars so a total of 3260 if that website is accurate.

Not sure how many of those were sold with an attractive finance deal tho. The deals have been around for awhile now but discount levels will reduce again once the facelift comes out next year.

£25k for a brand new M-135i manual in base spec is just amazing value imho considering the performance available.
