How much is the Golf R400 likely to cost Keith?

Sound like A45 AMG territory ,so approx. £39-£41 k.

 

I'm trying to get my friendly VW Exec to dig deeper and get me some info . 

 

Seems like 420 bhp will be on tap.

My VW sales guy is trying hard to get me pencilled in for a R estate. I told him I want the sight and sound of a R400 outside my house.

Is your R on a PCP or was it a cash purchase? I'd imagine the cost to change will be quite a sting tho. You would probably have to pump in 15k or more to make the upgrade?!

Mine was a cash deal with a settlement figure  on the Octavia vRS.

 

I got a great deal on the PX and the new price of the R.

 

Guess the problem will be the PX on the wife's Fabia vRS for you - £12k may be. However, yours will be in good nick and also the benefit of a "Hotish " small Estate which is popular on here.

Hopefully the Fabia won't be too hard to get out of, by the time we are looking to swap I suspect the settlement on that will be about £10k (it's on 0% PCP).

I was more referring to how much cas you would have to pump in to get your R400. If they are 40k before options the price differential between that and your used R is going to be quite hefty? :-(

Yeah, I fully understand that, it will depend on PX value and my VW man being real at point of sale!

 

Think it may be more a SE model with limited volume ,so people with "Real Money" will snap them up - so guess that I will have to get real and be more content with a great car in it's own right that I now own!

I reckon ditching DSG and moving to the ZF 8-spd box would be a good solution for them. Don't think I would fancy a 10-spd DSG, too many bloody ratios!

I can imagine it changing gear all the time cos its never satisfied with its selection.

I doubt there are going to be anything like the deals on the 400 as the R as they will be in limited supply.

So I don't think they'll be much of a bargain.

Probably the kind of car you have to dig deep for if you really want it.

Residuals should be half decent though.

With gears closer together it'll probably make block changes when required and hold gears rather than shuffling up and down all the time.

Wouldnt the gears be shorter though?

So if booted, itd seem like its forever changing gear?

8 gears on the M135i is sometimes a little too many tbh, I can't imagine having 10. I'm. It sure having that many ratios will add much to the experience when 'on it'.

Does it use em all when you're booting it in auto?

Apparently the 7 speed dsg in the fabia vrs only uses the 7th when in 'd' n not 's'. Ie. Max speed in 6th?

No idea if it uses em all in S-mode. I'd imagine you'd be going at pretty mental speeds to get that far on the public road tbh. I never use it in sport auto tho, it's either in D and comfort for pootling or using the paddles in sport.

I was more thinking about how tightly packed the ratios will be. The Auto ratios are much shorter in the auto M135i compared to the manual. I think the manual box in 6th is equal to the Auto in 7th. 2nd and 3rd are therfore a little lower/shorter on the auto. I'd imagine if there were 10 ratios in there it would be skittle too much and the car would be revving out and needing upshifts every couple of seconds!

Yeah the revving out n changing up is what i was thinking.

Having said that, autos change gear now its almost seamless isnt it. Even on a normal dsg box
