New Golf R

Featured Replies

I have a company car with free fuel (obviously subject to tax) so have the disposable income for a weekend toy. I'm early 30s, have 2 cars and 2 houses. My friend who is 35 is now a director of a building company and worked his way up from a bricky and has just bought a lambo. Granted he's hiring it out for £1k a weekend but he still outright owns a lambo! He's also got a wife and two kids.

Just goes to show that the money is out there for youngsters nowadays. I have another friend who's 20 earning nearly £30k a year. Think I was earning about £10k when I was 20.

  • Apologies is this thread is going a bit "off topic", but I'll carry on anyway as there is Golf R content... This is my personal experience of the S3, Golf R and M135i and the respective test drives.

Mate picked up his mk7 golf R a couple of weeks before I got my mk3 Octy Vrs fantastic bit of kit and performance is stunning he gave me a shot with only a couple of thousand miles on the clock ,wow! easy licence loser the way it grips and accelerates through corners fantastic !

Yes they are a lot of money but your paying for the technology ,as he previously had a mk6 golf gti 35 and a Audi S3 he feel that the new platform is a massive step forward!!!

Only down side is he was a bit peeved when comparing his interior to my vrs oh how many parts are shared!!!!!

Difference in price £7k difference in performance priceless!!!!

My TDi Vrs still makes me happy and smile and it still has plenty of useable performance but if money wasn't as much of a factor defo have the Golf R

But as previously said your knocking on the door of a very nice cayman or etc etc at that price!!!

I didn't have enough cash in my 30s to spend on a today's equivalent £35k car, so these Uber hatches aren't targeting hooligans in their 20s.

You would be surprised at how many of the contributors on the VWROC forum are in their 20's.

I have worked very hard all my life & only really managed to buy the cars I really wanted in my 30's / early 40's.

It is much easier to afford a nice, new car using PCP's etc that weren't available in my day [god I sound just like my Dad then :D ]

I dno. I know someone whos my age (22) with a golf r.

Granted its not a brand new one, but its nice.

I dont think its targeted at older people really.

I know a guy who outright owns a GTR too and hes 25. So nothing is out of reach with abit of grafting and being clever with what you earn.

So who's unwrapping a shiny new Golf R tomorrow morning then?

That would be nice, i will give it some thought.

I guess I just haven't grown up then!

A lot of my mates have 'grown up', guess it will happen to me one day!

A lot of people underestimate how many young people have money.

Wether it's through the family or a great job (a number seem to be in IT) or whatever...  or have the income to justify borrowing for an expensive car.

Quite a few in the GTROC and I sold my Yellow 600bhp R35 to a 22 year old.

Just clever with money i think.

A car only costs you the difference between the purchase price, the resale price and the fuel, tyres etc in-between. Not the initial purchase price.

If you're clever, youve no need to lose much have you.

To be fair, he did pay around £54k for the car and then spend around £30k+ on it to make it faster in a straight line for Santa Pod. :D

Depends.

Doesnt last long if you dont use it wisely does it ;)

Best to buy a car already tuned. Let somebody else take the hit.

Keith, are you about over Christmas at all? - Would love to meet up and have a gander at the R if possible?

I'm around Marlborough/Swindon up to the 5th if you would be so kind/ feel like showing off :)

Robshaw,

Sorry I've only just picked up on your contact.

However,I'm committed to friends and family over the Christmas and New Year period. So unfortunately won't be able to accommodate your request to meet up.

Just a thought, if you are near Swindon M4 junction 11 leading into Swindon then perhaps you could pop into the VW dealer for a look.

They did have some demo cars there for a try.

Give then a call and see what they have.

'All i got for Christmas was my 2 front teeth'.

vrskeith,

have loads of fun,

very jealous, it is a pity that i can not go borrow a VW Demonstrator today.

I could go practice drifting one.

Oh, and i got a Fat Tyre bike.  lol

Id like to see that bloke in a RWD bmw doing that.

Without the front wheels pulling him out haha.

Still comes down to a tyre thing though,

no matter if it is a Puller, Pusher, a bit of each or giving it at both ends.

An error occurred mate.

Hmm. Having been in a z4m. Those things like to slide everywhere, in the wet, dry, or whatever.

I dare say he wouldnt need to redline it like he is doing the golf aha.

Go on Keith you knows you want to lol!

The first one looks abit too much like "Golfer" hehe
