The VXR8 is the only one that grips me.

That doesnt even appeal tbh.

Its fast, and sounds good, yeah. Other than that i think it looks cheap n nasty though.

I agree with you in that there are better cars, but owning the Astra I like the car, it does what I need it do to do, good MPG and comfortable for long journeys, and gives me a chance to save money for next car when I will be in a better position to get something else.

I prefer the Monaro over the VXR8 to be honest

Cheap though ;)

It could be interesting if Jag made the XE Estate eventually. At around £35k in a decent spec.

Fair shout mate :).

Also. I honestly thought the vxr8 and the monaro were the same.

Im very uneducated when it comes to vauxhalls. Haha.

Just looking at the jag f-type R as it happens.

Got any tissues handy?

Thats fair enough, I have a soft spot for V8's as I am sure all petrol heads do, but after having a bad run with cars, Mondeo and then the BMW eating its gearbox nice to have something reliable!

And with regards to the Jag estate if they can match something similar to the XFR-S Sportbrake yes please :D

Just anything V tbh. Cars, bikes, women.,, oh sorry..

Seriously though. I love a V configured engine in both cars and bikes. A bike having a v twin or v4 is a big selling point for me.

And so would a car be, if i could afford to run a v6/8/12 lol.

Tried running a V6 Dodge Dayvan in my younger days, best car me and SWMBO have ever had, but just not realistic at the time, now is a different matter we are saving up for another Dayvan but a V8 this time.

That or a straight six engine, quite a fan of those as well, loved the 530i I had for a week

I am liking the recent super hatches/estates they are doing at the moment as they all seem to be quick, comfortable, fairly economical to run and fairly understated for the most part.

Dont blame you mate. Im sure youll love it when you get one :).

I'll just stick to bikes ;) haha.

I agree. Theyre very appealing arent they. My uncles golf r has only averaged 25mpg so far.

Given that its not even got 1000 miles on the clock though, and its 300bhp, redlined at pretty much every opportunity. Thats not bad at all is it...

Hopefully and SWMBO is on board makes it easier!

That is pretty impressive considering that was what I was getting with my mk2 Tfsi VRS

Speaking of V8's waiting for a mate to finish his v8 capri build, should be pretty awesome

Hmm well much as I believe that driving t he tsi engines hard is the secret to low oil consumption, personally I'd wait until a couple of Ks were on the clock first.

Some cupra 280 owners are getting 35 without trying, in eco mode 40+. I've not managed more than 34 yet, and have got below 22 a few times too.

I just dont redline em at all, n prefer to run em in properly tbh haha.

Thats not bad! I bet its all too tempting to put your foot down though ;).

Its when you start averaging 2mpg over your favourite road that you need smile and laugh it off lol.

Interesting stuff George, see Evo have taken up our earlier comments on here regarding competition to the Golf R Estate.

Think I read an article somewhere from them about the R400 being launched  Autumn 2015.

Anybody else seen that at 420 bhp not sure of the torque figure spread.

Off out to enjoy my R, in the lovely sunny Wiltshire afternoon, shortly! Quick  Country roads of course.!!

Just back from my Cross-Country blast across Wiltshire, on this lovely sunny day .

60 miles of twists, turns and blasting straights. Average speed approx 40 mph returning 36 mpg.

Another fully engaging and enjoyable drive!

Love it, Simples!

36mpg? You're not trying hard enough! ;-)

I know the VW figures are 40+mpg for such a run out.

Still it was nice not to have a "tail end happy" quick country blast. Must be on rails or just glued to the tarmac.

Interesting top 50 selection, but it seems a bit odd that the Golf R comes number one and the Audi S3 doesn't feature at all.

Presumably they have accessed both in the VAG range and this is their choice. A similar comment to the one you make could be put forward for the Seat Cupra 280

Do VW release cross country blast mpg figures? Can't say I've seen that data ;-) lol

When I went out ragging it in an S3 cross country I got low 20s mpg so suspect I would see the same behind the wheel of an R. I guess everyone's idea of a "blast" is different :-).

The golf is brilliant as it's easy to drive and safe in all weathers. I reckon it's an ideal go-kart point and shoot vehicle whereby you can just mash the throttle and steer. Worth remembering its FWD for the vast majority of the time.

Personally I like abit of a challenge / be pushed to get the best out of a car.... and enjoy that RWD feeling. Feeling the rear slip a little (and sometimes step out a tiny bit) before it grips and shoots you down the road is great fun. But then we are all different. Horses for courses and all that! It's nice to have so much choice in the hot-.hatch market these days :-)
