Really?! What kind of boost levels is it running? That sounds.... scary.

What was the reason for change of tuner at that late stage in the project?

  • Well time for a bit of an update, I'm back at Shark Performance to work out some of these gremlins from the turbo conversion. We've had issues with the Coil Pack light flashing and putting the car int

Impressive!!

Very bold statement though.... How do we know that it's the fastest 1.6tdi? :p

The most powerful one maybe? But figures are only for showing off and pub talk!

Because I'll be driving ;)

With the power of the Lord behind him ;)

It's runnning at 2.0 bar peaking at 2.1, I'll explain later why the switch but I'm happy with it so far :)

Now that's the answer I was looking for!

Great figures, I'm sure it will be a completely different animal to the one you bought from the showroom....

Once I've spent a couple of days behind the wheel I'll post up a review, the 1.6tdi hasn't been realy viewed as good for tuning, hopefully that will change.

If Brimma went down this route with the Fabia it would be seriously quick, maybe a viable alternative for those missing the diesel VRS ?

But twice the bhp and almost three times the torque is going to be fun :)

Have the engine's internals been beefed up, Darrell? If not, what power can it handle without worrying that something will break?

To the level we are at, there's potential for more but it would need the internals looking at :)

Wow, my Skyline only runs 1.6 bar!

My mk1 Fabia is running 1.9bar and that's a hybrid turbo. Looking forward to seeing this at castle Combe :)

Don't diesels run higher boost than petrols anyway though?

The turbo we've used is good for up to 2.5bar, Anthony did some checking on the turbo, ill get some figures for you when i pick it up tomorrow :) you can have spin at Castle Comb, see what you think :)

I'm no tuner but that seems a lot of boost for rods and pistons that are known not to be that strong - I'd assumed you'd uprated the internals for these figures! Was the Shark map running the same boost?

its not the turbo I'd be worrying about. I'm running 1.3bar and the turbo is easily good for 1.5 bar. I wouldn't run that due to the standard 1.8 internals (pretty much same as the two litre but destroked).

Shark didn't give me any details as to what boost it was running at but the first thing Anthony did when I got it to ADE was put it on the Dyno to record everything so I can find out tomorrow exactly what it was running at.

I made it clear to ADE Tuning that 200bhp was the dream outcome but that it's a family car and needed to be safely mapped for everyday use. Anthony has done just that so I'm happy, if I feel it's being pushed too hard or the car gives any indication it's not happy then I'll be straight back because Anthony has said he's happy to make any changes I want.

They are over the moon with it at ADE and want to put their name to it as a show case of what they can do. Anthony and the team have shown me they are unwilling to cut any corners, I've got as much confidence in them as a company than any of the best I've worked with.

Just had a look back at when the car was on standard turbo and stage 1, it was running at 1.8bar, so with the bigger turbo it's not that big of an increase in pressure.

At ADE Tuning and took the car for a spin with Anthony, the car is a totally different beast and everything I wished it had been, he left the boost gage inplace so we could see how it delivered and it is spot on.

When I picked the car up after the initial turbo fitting and 10 days development I was genuinly gutted to find myself with the bonnet up in the dark and rain with the glow plug light flashing and the car in limp mode.

After this initial drive the smile I had hoped for is finaly on my face. ADE Tuning have produced a truly amazing car, I'll drive it for a while and give a full review but ADE Tuning have produced the most powerful 1.6tdi in the UK and possibly Europe.

If your looking to do your own 1.6tdi turbo upgrade then I can't reccomend ADE Tuning enough.

Here's a few pics of the downpipe inplace.

So Shark did the the lion's share of getting the car to where it is now, with all the hardware mods (brakes, suspension, uprated turbo, intercooler, exhaust) yet ADE come along, have a go at the map, and now " ADE Tuning have produced the most powerful 1.6tdi in the UK" ?

Can't help but feel you're being a little unfair on Shark here, letting ADE take all the glory ?

Good numbers and the car look great in the metal. I'm confused about the sudden switch in Tuners 'mid-project' though??

So what is the cost per Bhp gain, I can't help thinking it would have been far easier to get the 170 map that for the same power -ish....

Don't get me wrong I have done the same thing myself over the years to other cars, and its good to do something different but there is a point where you can say is it really work spending X amount on a car when you could have bought another a more powerful engine.

I thought the the point of the 1.6 is to be cheap to run and insure all you have done is created something that cost more than a cr170 to insure/run now surely.

I agree with muddyboots, Shark do all the hard work and they put on a map on it and no doubt a few other tweaks and it's labelled as all their own work?

Having said all that am very interested to see how well it goes :)

Remapping a 170 to get similar performance wouldn't have resulted in the car being a one off.

It would have just have been "another" mapped Skoda.

Bit like a Yeti TTRS ;)

Pic of the Yeti Greenline with the ADE Tuning team, top bunch, if anyone hasn't seen it already, check out their 600+bhp 4x4 VW Lupo. Be good to see a drag race with Boss Fox's Citigo ;)

For those (including me) that love theses kind of things, here are some more runs ADE Tuning did just to make sure we were consistently seeing 200+ bhp.

Been chatting to DarkSide Developments on one of the other forums who would like to run it on their Dyno once their building work is done :) don't mind if I do ;)

I'll try and get some video footage over the weekend aswell to show the change in engine and exhaust note, I'm loving how it's sounding, especially the difference the downpipe has made to the Milltek.
