Only the TDi and Scout models got the full length front undertray.

The VW All-track models also use it.

It goes all the way to the sub-frame.

All other models get the standard short length cover that doesn't cover the sump.

I recently changed mine for the full length version.

I had to get the DSG version as it requires the two cutouts to allow airflow directly onto the DSG transmission.

In addition, I also got the centre exhaust tunnel cover.

Mine came with all other underbody aero covers, minus 6a & 6b as the 220 has dual exhausts.

Great info, looks like the full under tray uses the same fixings with just the 3 additional fixings at its rear that I need to source?

U can use the same fitting points, however u can't use the existing Torx screws.  They're too small and not wide enough.

U need an Undertray Fitting Kit.

It comes with:-

- 10x Extra long Torx Screws with washers

- 3x WHT 000 729 A - hexagon socket head bolt, self-locking,(M8x20mm)

An update on tyre choice for my 280 which was discussed on the previous page. I looked at various options including summer and all season tyres, eventually I decided to stick with summer tyres as our Fabia is on Michelin cross climates which can handle the sort of winter we've had these last few years. So after reading reviews on the best options I narrowed it down to Continental premium contacts or Goodyear Eagle F1s. Road tests gave the nod to the Goodyears in most cirumstances and both were available for virtually the same price so Ive now got the new F1s fitted. Obviously way better grip as theyre new, haven't tried them in the wet yet but definitely quieter than the Contis so happy enough with the swap.

As an aside, I was at the dealers today getting the Superb its 1st service and they had a brand new model Superb just come in. It was a 193ps TDI 4x4 L and K estate and I had a look at it whilst I was waiting. Looked very smart in the new pebble silver with black leather. The seats have been upgraded since my version, apparently they now heat, cool and massage as standard and they have better side support too, very comfortable.

the rears seem to say for 300mm discs though, need to check with them on this.

edit: checked the EBC site and the same part number looks to be a match for the 310 on the EBC filters DP42173R and DP42127R

has anyone else swapped out discs and pads to something they would recommend?

RAC insurance say the above are fine with them as not classed as a modification.

Rears are 310mm. Did mine a few months ago.

I went for ATE discs and ATE ceramic pads on rear, and Pagid discs and pads on front. I can say they feel ok.

If you want an alternative to those yellow stuff pads, I would go for Ds2500 from Ferodo.

Running yellow stuff on mine as I have on all my cars for years, and previously ran red stuff before that. Never had an issue and they always work as described.
the Ferodo as suggested above are also a good shout and a great pad as well.

What air filter are people using in their standard air box. I see a Mann available in Autodoc , standard paper. Anyone used a washable foam from the likes of pipercross or K&N?

K&N for me. Not had to wash it yet.

Just make sure you use the K&N label / sticker which hopefully prevents the garage throwing away the K&N & replacing it with a stock filter come service time.

Is that in the OE airbox, Colin? Any noticeable difference in noise?

Yes the Air box filter. Easy swap. I also removed the "snow baffle" underneath the air filter to improved the airflow even more. Never much much snow where I live & even when it does I can't see how it would ever get that high up inside the engine bay?

Maybe a small amount of additional induction roar when accelerating hard but you can't really hear it from inside the car because the exhaust & engine noise drowns it out. K&N say a few extra BHP added as well but on the 280 it's hard to tell as it's pretty quick as standard.

Bought mine from the K&N store on Amazon. https://www.amazon.co.uk/stores/KN/page/B6D270E2-F297-4766-AF16-91FD670B145A?ref_=ast_bln

If anyone is interested I also have a spare K&N filter for a Karoq 1.5 DSG which I took out of my wife's car when we sold it.  It's a bout the same size as the Superb filter but not as deep.

Thanks Colin.👍🏻

Hello.

I have changed few things today like engine oil Total Quartz 9000 5W40 API SP, Total dsg oil, haldex oil, air filter, spark plugs, pcv valve, n205 magnet, both camshaft oil control valves and winter tyres R18 Dynamic from Phaeton.

Remaining: rear diff oil, front transfer box oil, brake fluid, coolant g12evo, cabin filter, maybe prop shaft flexible coupling...

Wasn't my idea to bring this up for a question only, I owe the crowd a long update but I am short on time ... I have a very bothering "jump" start from time to time, like a Diesel, where the car shakes on the very first ignition, then settles as normal in its idle regime. This either on cold, or hot starts, not all the time, but randomly.

I will take it to service but any hints as what to expect? I am about to hit the 50k km mark, last 13k km by me, 95% highway/out of the city ....

Done only the Racechip throttle, but I doubt this plays a part.

Also the DSG jumping gears is becoming extremely bothering, but will have the dealer "deal" with it first, before trying anything on my own.

Still a great car, but ....

OK, I haven’t seen a “272 thread” so this is as good a place as any to ask for some opinions.
I’ve a 2019 272 Sportline plus, 52k. Bought it approved used in June with a two year manufacturers warranty. Car runs like a dream. Pulls like a train. However, on the odd occasion when I bury the throttle and “boot it” there’s what looks like a dust cloud out the back. Literally for like a few seconds and then it’s clear. This happens only on the first acceleration, if I accelerate hard again straight after, nothing is emitted.
Has anyone else experienced this? Should I get it into the dealership? Is it nothing to worry about or the beginning of a bigger issue?
There’s absolutely no smoke at any other time.
Cheers.

I've had this happening on other cars, petrol, mostly when driven by others in city/traffic at low rpms or driven like ... my parents, wife, and such.

It should be some soot in the system, exhaust, and so ono, which you expel by giving it a go.

Try to bury the throttle more often and see if it does it, and at least once in a while you should do a longer higher-load drive, does not hurt the mechanicals ... only the pocket 😜

Yeah that's the Italian tune-up isn't it? Give it a booting before the MOT so the emissions test doesn't get a false bad reading?

The only other question to check - what colour is it? White is steam (condensation water sat in the exhaust getting heated as the hot gases pass through), slightly blue is oil, grey/black is soot (or just 'diesels').

272 is 280 basically so def in the right place, same car with the same EA888.3 engine; just change in GPF. They are fantastic cars.

Yes, I saw that when I booted my 280 recently - first wondered if it could have been salt  on the road as it was white / grey - not able to say how long it lasted as I ran out of road - I suspect the reason was / is as mentioned above, a few 1000 without any serious acceleration builds up the soot…….?

Thanks all you’ve put my mind at rest. Currently only doing minimal commute three days a week and that includes a school run. So no real opportunity to utilise the horses. Just clearing its throat when it gets a chance then. 👍🏼

in terms of colour, it’s difficult to describe. The best I can do is to say that it sort of looks like I’ve driven through a dusty patch of the road and the backdraft has kicked it up in the air a couple of feet.
Gives me a good “excuse” when I indulge in some spirited driving and the wife’s in the car anyway.
“Just looking after the engine babe” 🤣🤣🤣

thanks all.

You guys never let me down. 🙌🏼

Hi they are two blue LED clusters. Seen them on an unmarked S3 near me.
Suspect they’ve used the holes from the sensors to retro fit these? 🤷🏻‍♂️

The reverse parking sensors on the Superb is on the black diffuser bit, not on the painted bumper bit.

Ah well. I was half right. 🤣🤣

  • 2 months later...

Due to an "official checkup" at the dealer, just an administrative thing, I wanted to have them checked the DSG that I experienced sometime some "jumping" or abrupt gearchange, and also the start/stop a little grumpy, which I mentioned some post above this one.

To avoid any controversy, I removed the pedal box and due to a number of reasons been driving since without it, at least 500km.

So now to compare, I get the feel that, while laggy, is not so much the throttle control the problem, but the absolute impossible set up of the DSG, especially for this car. Now the dealer found no isuses whatsoever, and at 52k km I am still a bit short of a fluid change which I was advised at 60k km/4 years, so problems are excluded, so is just the way this thing was programmed to work.

I noticed flipping from D to S in the same stretch of road at the same average speed and throtthle input, in all modes "Normal" you might find yourself in D5 at 1100/1200RPM, where adequately rapid response is nil, versus being in S3 at close to 2000RPM which is more than reasonable for a revvy turbocharged petrol engine, albeit a couple hundred less with same throttle input would be desirable ...

Unfortunately, there is no way in between, so now I am spending most of the time changing modes and using the paddles to correct. What a drag 😁

Incidentally, the fuel consumption is the same, as now the car does almost not see the dreadful 'eco' mode which I need to find a way to erase forever. Engine braking is also welcome as it reduces dependence on the brakes ... and I have noticed almost nothing of the 'jerkiness' I reported above.

So now I will give it one mor try to the pedal box, to see if really the most bothering thing is the throttle control, or the DSG setup. I suspect the latter.
