The 280PS Thread

Recommended Posts

My 19-plate 272 L&K Estate sadly goes back today (it'll reappear on a Skoda forecourt somewhere at some point in the next few weeks). Hopefully I'll get the opportunity to have another one soon.

I've still got a Skoda on the drive for the next few months at least though - my wife has a vRS 245 Estate until at least June.

Love the new face-lift tweaks, especially the door downlighters

Sadly, but it's developed opposite way - for best performance in showroom not for usage in real life 😞

personally me can't accept that huge performance drop:

shouldn't that comment be in the " what's for tea " thread.       :notme:

Well I suppose you're right as usual Darling as my chicken broth was soaked with superseeded batch bread which did indeed end up rather moist. Same again tomorrow. While I'm here the 272 nearly took me by surprise today as I floored it going over a roundabout and the acceleration can only be described as shockingly violent, so no idea how it will compare next Tuesday on the long drive home from Essex.:hi:

So it's got nothing to do with the amount of hair coming out of it?

Don't you find there's nothing worse than finding a loose hair between your teeth for those of us fortunate enough to have them of course. 0-50mph in 3.2 seconds sounds like fun.:blush

And back on topic, who has had their 280 remapped? Apart from the '560 bhp' thread, I can't find anything on this forum relating to remapped 280's. 😞

I asked the same question a couple of days ago and it went all quiet like the Queen farting in a lift.:D

I'm seriously considering a Revo map for mine.  I was initially waiting for my warranty to expire first but I'm not sure how much longer I can resist....I've used Revo for maps on two previous cars and the results/reliability were impressive.  I think a DSG fettle would also need to be considered. I've already spoken to my local indy specialist who is now handily a Revo agent too.  I've been offered a drive of their 'Revo'd' Golf R which I'm hoping to arranging soon (different car but it would at least give me an idea without any flash count/changes to my car)

I would like to also firm/stiffen up car at some stage too.  Though at this moment in time I'm saving my pennies for new alloys, next service and new brake pads/discs and when that get's done I'll also be getting my calipers painted too..the standard rust colour is starting to bore me.

What would you like to know in particular? As an engine, the 280 has been massively tuned for years now on its VW, Seat and Audi counterparts which are more tuning-popular than the Superb since they are smaller and they carry a "proper"  sport badge. Much more information, results and experiences on those forums than on Briskoda regarding the matter but in short, a stage 1 is a proven, straight-forward and very noticeable improvement without really any worries of extra wear or auxiliary upgrades that have to come with it. Between 350 and 370bhp is what you can safely expect depending on which tuner and map you choose, some offer two versions (low and high torque). The platform is so popular that there's plenty of tuning choices available if you decide to go forward (although not all equal between them).

Hi - looking for advice again :)

I bought my new Superb L&K estate 4x4 272 back in May last year and reached 10K miles in Dec at which point it indicated it was due for an oil service. Duly serviced by my local Skoda dealer in Swindon end of December.

In general everything seems fine but since the service I have noticed a cloud of smoke from the exhaust when accelerating hard - typically when over taking :) I dont recall noticing such smoke before the service but maybe didn't notice.

Is this anything to worry about? Like I say in general everything is fine and the car drives like a dream but just wondering whether I should be seeing smoke when accelerating hard 😞

Thanks in advance for any advice,

Mike

Just water vapour that collects in the exhaust system that is a result of the combustion process and if someone sits in your car when it's stationary and you get them to rev it to say 4-5,000rpm then you will see water vapour coming out of both exhaust tips on your 272. Absolutely nothing to worry about and quite normal.

Even the BE57 Vrs245 would need to be pushed off the White Cliffs of Dover (Top Gear style) if it ever wanted to get 60mph in 4.4 seconds (Roscio stage 1 Superb 272).:hi:

Sure if you go to page 5 of my thread "Living with a Superb Sportline Plus 272 hatch" you will see a full list of his stage 1 Superb 272 recorded acceleration figures which are very impressive (he is based in Italy).;)
