ACC & VCDS disable requirement to put foot on brake?

Featured Replies

Is it possible via VCDS to disable the requirement with ACC to put your foot on the brake when stationery for a short period of time in start stop traffic?

To me it seems pointless and unnecessary that I need to take control when the car has already brought me to a stop by itself and has the brake on, why can it just not continue to hold it on the brake itself until traffic starts moving again?

Thanks

Simon

The golf does this and has the same system. I'd be keen to do this too.

I guess the reason it does this is a safety feature so the driver confirms they are ready before the car moves off again (by releasing the brake).

For example so the car doesnt move off while you are leaning into the back etc

I can't help you with VCDS but I doubt that changing something like this would be possible as its likely a safety feature.

Personally I don't find it much of a safety feature as when the ACC brings the car to a stop behind another car after a couple of seconds it beeps at you and tells you to put your foot on the brake, even if you don't it then releases the brake and the car starts to roll forward.  If you have your music a bit loud then you don't even hear the beep,  I know that I should still be paying full attention as it's only a driving aid :-)

Have to admit I'm not sure I would want it getting rid of either. Had someone in front of me jump the lights at some speed when the turning lane next to us went green. Big mess. If my ACC would have followed I would have been in it to. Doing a bit of red-light daydreaming but my foot was on the brake thankfully

Maybe just an option to extend the amount of time that the car will sit stationery before requiring you to put foot on brake, would just make it so much easier in start stop traffic on M25!

... because it has an electric handbrake and engages that instead.

It's probably because if you're stopped for more than a few seconds you should have the handbrake on rather than the foot brake.

The golf don't use the electric handbrake.... there is not a single sound from the electric brake actuators when it stops and cut off engine

So you are saying the golf will hold you indefinitely on the footbrake?

Looks like it is the Auto-Hold function that does this, which is described as being an extension of the EPB, but seems to use the hydraulics instead. Confused.com

The Volkswagen Auto Hold function is an extension of the electronic parking brake. The Auto Hold function prevents the vehicle from rolling away accidentally when standing still or setting off, without the driver having to keep his foot on the brake pedal. In this way Auto Hold offers the ultimate in comfort and convenience when driving or setting off, along with enhanced safety.
The system is operated via the ABS/ESP hydraulic unit. When the vehicle is braked to a standstill, Auto Hold retains the last-applied braking pressure. The driver can take his foot off the brake pedal and all four wheel brakes stay on. If the ABS wheel speed sensors detect any rolling, the braking force is automatically increased until the car comes to a standstill again. This may be the case if, for example, the driver brakes gently to a stop on an incline. As soon as the driver presses the accelerator again and, in the case of manual gearboxes, releases the clutch, Auto Hold releases the brakes again.
For safety reasons, the function always has to be reactivated by means of a button to the left of the gear lever.

I really want this to - I have a TSI DSG on order. I drove a new Passat 150 DSG recently which haD it, it was excellent!!

No more sitting at the lights with your foot on the brake!!

Pull up at the lights pressing the brakes -> car stops engine stops -> foot of brake -> wait for the lights to change -> foot on accelerator, engine starts -> DSG selects gear & brakes auto release and off you go!!!!

Yes auto hold will hold a car stationary indefinitely and is what the car would use if at a standstill with ACC activated.

My Golf puts on the EPB if you open the drivers door when it is active. My old Golf Auto Hold only used to function with the seatbelt on...the newer one doesnt require it.

I can't understand why the blurb says it is an extension of the EPB function, but it is the ABS module that does it. AFAIK EPB is a separate module?

Indeed ABS controls the auto hold. When on auto hold its the same as holding the brakes on full by the pedal.

This really annoys me too. Every other vag car has it. Bmw have it too. Comes standard on the autos. Why not ours??? Find a way of enabling it Andy :)

The Leon doesn't get it like the golf does it? Auto hold for 2 seconds and auto hold until your ready to go is different

It's in the adaption Chanels on 03 ABS when using vcds.... but it need security access
