Best Android or mirrorlink head unit for octavia

Featured Replies

Can anyone recommend a good android head unit or even one that uses mirrorlink effectively . I know there is a few threads on here about them but some of them are a bit old.

I know the technology in these things can change fairly fast so was was trying to get the most up to date advice .

I have already changed my stream mp3 for a columbus and now i'm fairly bored of it so selling it this week , even though it is a good quality unit i would prefer to somehow be able to use spotify , youtube and other apps .

am i right in thinking that with mirrorlink all the processing is done through the phone ,the headunit is just an interface?

Have seen a few systems on iceboxauto and they look sweet ,but am wondering what theyre like to live with .

If the technology isn't up to scratch yet , i suppose ill just have to stick with my stream and aux cable.

Thanks folks, bit of reading for me there so, I did hear the pioneer are good but I would prefer the ones that look original, would defo be Interested to hear how the one from pumpkin turns out awesam, columbus is a great unit, but not enough things to play with

Got it fitted, complete barsteward as i took out my parrot bluetooth! Took me 5hrs as the parrot had been fitted with a extra loom and the original loom had been moved underneath the cage. Ended up butchering a hole on the plastic bottom so i could get the connector to the back of the headunit.

All fitted now, will get pics posted soon.

Model FTN6000

Have connected using mirror link but had to use a USB cable and it works fine.

Im still tryin to ascertain if the sound quality is better than the Stream MP3 HU it replaces.

I still need to play about with it to understand the functionality, at the moment I can't really say Im satisfied with it.

hard to get any definitive info on this , looks good from what little i can find

A quick review!

Its beginning to grow on me now!

Good Points:

  • Screen resolution is really good
  • Responsive
  • Sound quality from Radio is ok but this could be because I haven't used a double fakra to single ISO connector.
  • SD card responsive
  • Bluetooth calling is clear
  • Displays when the car door is open - however its in reverse order, so if the driver door is open the display shows the passenger door open! I don't have maxidot.

Bad Points:

  • Parking sensors aren't as responsive as before however you do get a display on screen along with the trajectory whilst reversing - I haven't install a rear view camera (well, not yet!)
  • SD card stop working/couldn't find it once I had blue tooth connected and using google maps.
  • Blue tooth streaming is on a different menu from the music player and I don't think its as amplified/loud as if you playing a CD or music from the SD.
  • Need to keep on tapping on the volume buttons up and down to increase/decrease volume! Would benefit from a MFSW.
  • Display some contacts last name first!

Which model radio are you referring to?
