We Buy Any Car

Featured Replies

With a new S3 in the offing have been looking around at ways of moving our present car on . The dealer gave a low price ( after upping the milage ! ) so am asking for peoples experience of "We Buy Any Car-- do they knock you down a lot ?

I took them my old Corsa, they knocked a bit off for a few light cosmetic details.

But didn't spot the fact I'd dumped two bottles of K-Seal in..... so I wasn't complaining!

they will give you a price then knock more off when you get there. They ended up the same price as the dealer when I went so gave it to the dealer

Most dealers now use the online pricing of WBAC as it's quicker for them.

So you may just find similar pricing, but the dealer could want a sale so just may be a little bit better.

Depends on your car.

WBAC also charges £75 to transfer the money so knock that off their price too.

Do they advertise that, Aspman?

I thought they charged £50 admin fee, but did not see this transfer fee anywhere in their bumph!, when I was considering.

Be honest when listing the damage prior to the appointment.

There are other companies offering the same sort of service as the big name WBAC I used one specific to NI and for my bike fot just uner a grand more than WBAB offered and for car the following year £1500 more than WBAC offered on their site before knocking down and I left with the price I was offered. They said that the options selected offered no additional value like the Columbus etc, so I took the car home and put the Bolero back in etc, even too spare and tool kit and they were fine with it :D I can't imagine WBAC coming anywhere near that for ease of service etc and there was no inflation of offer price with hidden fees taken off, money was offered as an instant bank transfer or in cash. Google around for the competition and see what they all offer and what peoples experience of them are on reviews etc.

WBAC are a dealer, actually part of British Car Auctions, so need to make their cut when they push them back through auctions.

Only if you want same day transfer.

We sold our Fiesta to them, they knocked about £200 off for some little bits and bobs but ignored the amber abs light on so we were chuffed tbh. Saved hassle for us selling privately, no complaints tbh.

The problem is people want the same money as they'd get privately, which isnt going to happen. Go there with eyes open and you'll be ok, it does also seem to go with what sells well. Out BM was offered £1000 more than we paid for it a few months after we bought it, nice diesel german car in the right spec sells well at auctions, while my Panda was valued at about 50% of what I could get privately, again, because they dont sell well and are a bit unusual.

Echo much of the above.  I put my poorly sick Mondeo in to them when the DMF started to rattle and was diagnosed as failing.

WBAC inspected the car, started it up, went through the gears and pronounced it sound and I got almost the full 3K they'd quoted online, less a few pounds for some minuscule stone chips which they quibbled over the size about.  I wasn't going to object, given the car had a £1500 repair bill about to detonate with new clutch, DMF and starter motor.

Conversely,  on paper they low-balled on the Mondeo's replacement (a VW passat TDI, 54 plate) I assume because of it's age and mileage when entered online.  They didn't get a chance to see the sopping wet carpets from an untraceable water leak..... :notme:

I wish I'd known about Carter and Haines in February! And only down the road from me.

A sticky list of companys where to look for everyone would good... :sun:

Be quick to visit wbac after your quote as prices vary week to week. They knocked another £250 off the trade in because we went a week later than the quote. They also charge for buying the car off you too but as a means to an end to shift a car it's easy.

In fairness it tells you how long your quote is valid for in the email, 7 days I think

It's there but it's hidden away.

WBAC also sometimes Email again telling you to check and the offer is increased.

I think the best i have had is 3 increased offers,

the only problem being i was getting a price on a car i was looking at buying and never owned, (just to get an idea what WBAC would offer)

and so could not sell it to them or anyone.

Maybe they've changed it recently but it's clear as you can get now

Sold my 2009 Volvo V50 2.0ds with 127600m on it to to The Car Buying Group yesterday.

Offered an acceptable price on Weds collected the car Friday from my office in Dumfries.. Payment into my bank account within an hour or so I I have to admit being nervous about that bit)

Car was mine from new with full SH MOT expiry n July . Looked good interior, exterior usual chips and one ding. Bushes and suspension very tired. Rear screen heater not working.

Paid £175 more than WBAC plus collected from my work, no haggling on price following my appraisal of the visual points. Maybe I Was too thorough?

Got £2525 which was ok as insurance would expire on Monday too.  Possibly could have got nearer£3k privately but knowing of some of the faults .

Contacted a couple of local dealers who did not respond, trade in prices were around the 2400 mark as was we want any car.

It worked ok for me. Got a lease car on order. No hassles either.

Car was going to BCA Leeds will be interested to know what it sells for reg: SC09GFK silver. I think they are sold under Digital Automotive Solutions.

  • 3 weeks later...

I only found out yesterday that BCA own WBAC.

Edit: Although I'd have found this out on 23 March if I'd read this Fred properly.

Did two dummy runs in the last couple of months using WBAC. First case offer was £2k less than dealership offer in the 2nd instance £3.5 k under dealership actual. Won't touch then with a barge pole. Bit like money lender v  banks. Worst of the options ,if you are desperate only .imo.

I looked at using WBAC when selling my last car as their adverts suggest that customers were financially better off going through them.  After their initial offer I decided to sell privately and sold the car for 288% more than they offered.  This allowed me to buy the Octavia outright two days later.  Maybe some people find them convenient but the price they offered me was laughable and I sold my car very easily through Ebay within three days.

I suppose they're useful for offloading a dodgy motor (with faults that aren't obvious or can be temporarily covered up) if you have a conscience and don't wish to sell privately.

In my circumstances, I was shifting my Mum's car after she passed away. Didn't need it, no need to trade and wanted straightforward cash.
