I saw a face lift car yesterday. Meh! It didn't look better in the metal than on pictures.

I can't see the lights from the drivers seat so, I don't give a ****

I Think if you go for the L&K version you get the darker door trim with  ambient light.. the style without ambient light has also dark door trim.. and silver with ambient light

It'll still look like poo with all that brown interior

Can anyone confirm that the facelift Octavia 2017 version has better sound proofing / insulation and better suspensions compared to original Octavia III ?

Did you notice any differences ?

Some of the complains were that the original Octavia III was noisier than competitors and not that pleasant on bad road.

Thank you !

My local seller said that they improved sound insulation from MY16 to MY17. I don't know what that improvement consisted of, or if it's true. In my experience, my MY17 is more quiet than my MY15, but it has a different engine so who knows. It does however have the hood insulation that the MY15 didn't have (both are pertol engines). Maybe the improvements where carried over to FL/MY18 (as opposed to further improvements).

What competitors exactly?

Nothing wrong with O3 on a rough roads. Diesels are a bit jumpy comparing to petrol and RS is absolutely fabulous car.

DCC makes improvements on the level it's hard to believe.

I'm considering DDC, do have first hand experience of DDC ?

I'd like to hear your thoughts on it

Apologies but what's DDC?

"Dynamic Dassis Control" ?

This is what i wanted to hear. So the enhanced insulation came from MY16 vs MY17. Thank you ! I should look under the hood to see the insulation on petrol engines. The facelift is officially MY 18 model ? If yes then they definitely carried over the improvements.

On first models was worst than competition on insulation.

It is so subjective, so put all those tests aside (especially for another market) with great reserve. It is less important level of dB but what type of noise you hear. Finally most of the noise is coming from the wheels or from noisy road (or combination road and tire). In C segment don't expect any miracles on this point.

Yes maybe Indian cars are not VW group at all but some Chinese clone :))))

They improved insulation in Europe too, that means they had an initial problem (wanted to cut costs, gain more profit, or simply bad cost reduction decision) !

Both the dB and the noise type are important.

If you get orgasmic type of sound maybe you want more dB of it. :))

But if you get sh*ity sound then you want that closer to zero in dB :))

This is true.

Comparing different markets same models may differ. They may also be produced in different factories, optimizing production costs. Don't know if this is the case with Škoda Octavia, it was generally speaking. Octavia won the test anyway, nice brief review of this young Indian lady, thanks for sharing.

From my experience owning 2013 and 2017 car, of course newer is quiter, but it's TSI comparing to TDI. Poor TSI is loud as electric car, so they had to install Audi sound actuator under the bonnet, so you're able to hear anything whatsoever... Someone mentioned no sound insulation cloth under the bonnet for TSI, of course there isn't. What to insolate? :D:D:D

@Riolux dealer said they improved insulation (both were petrol tested)

The Diesel is always much more noisy. He was comparing petrol vs petrol.

At 17:30 no insulation for 1.8 TSI facelift on the hood

From MY16 to MY17 the improved insulation was not made to the hood on TSI/TDI but to other places of the cabin in order to prevent sound coming inside from the wheels and road probably.

Correct me if i am wrong or if you have more details about what was better insulated.

Hmm. Here is a 1.0 TSI (which is what I have on my MY17) that HAS the insulation.

I saw fl version yesterday behind me in sitting traffic and the driver look crossed, maybe he was angry for having broken headlights :D

How long after an order is placed should dealer have build week?

had a look at SE L model with black Alcantara upholstery yesterday. The door and centre console trim is very hard plastic. Can't say I'm impressed.

The twin lights which I'd previously thought looked hideous don't look too bad.

My 64 Plate Octavia Estate also has hard plastic with a sort of rubberised coating...to be honest its all plastic and even when I've had new premium brand cars they still rattle
Though this Octavia MK3 is more of a rattle bucket then my MK2 Scout

Prefer the Front Bumper Design on the facelifted VRS compared to the normal car...just don't need that much power

Officialy ordered today Skoda Superb 190 DSG. I am a little bit sad because I really like my current VRS but  I still can't get used with the front of the facelift model.
Also it is not available in RO yet, but that wouldn't be a real problem.
I hope that over 3 years when I will change again the car, Octavia 4 VRS will look better and I will come back. :)

I have noticed that 1.4TSI has more engine noise in the cabin than 1.8TSI. I think its due to the higher revs when accelerating. 1.0TSI could operate at even higher revs resulting in noisier engine. Perhaps that's why it has the insulation?

There are alot of interesting posts on sound insulation.

Here is a view from me having just changed from a 2014 Golf Estate 2.0TDI GT (17" wheels) to a pre-FL 2017 Octavia estate 1.4TSI SE Sport (with 18" wheels).

Edit -> both are 6 speed manual transmission

When stationary with the engine running, the Octavia is quieter (engine wise).

When stationary with engine off (eg auto stop/start at traffic lights), more noise gets into the cabin in the Octavia.

When on the motoway, the Octavia is louder; from road noise. It could be the 18"s, but I'm not convinced that is the main reason.

So cabin insulation on the Golf was certainly better than the Octavia.

Probably. You need to rev the 1.0 pretty hard if you want to accelerate quickly :)

I would say the main reason is that the Golf had a TDI & they get the full length engine undertray (thin plastic) the petrol TSI gets a half length version, more turbulence etc...

that's before the possibility of underside of bonnet insulation or not..
