Reading car dealer smg

Featured Replies

Hi, just wondered if anyone has ever had any dealings with car dealers smg motors ltd from reading and if they are generally a good honest business?

Isn't Grey Gables near you, Just had occasion to purchase an 08 4 x 4 Octavia from them and they were a pleasure to deal with.

Best dealers I have ever been to, I will certainly be using them again.

Just had a look at their website, and that Octy you are interested in looks very, very tidy for its age. Well worth going to look at. Only issue I can see is the usual damage to the top of the drivers door car, which I would sort out by simply replacing it.

Good luck, let us know how you get on.

Shame about the scratch on the rear bumper otherwise its very tidy for its age.

Yes they certainly are ,.,. 3 miles from my house but unfortunately their stock is out of my budget ..... one day though

Omg lmao .... they are actually asking money for that

A drivers side Door card is around £300 fron Skoda and you need everything from the old one to fit to the new one.

Ok, been to see the car, engine, clutch, flywheel seemed great....bodywork not quite as tidy as looked on pics... bit of poorly touched up rust on cills....boot scratch is not nice ...and badly touched up large chip on drivers doors ..... ns rear tyre was as good as bald.... front ns brake pads where pretty much down to metal although ofs where ok and looked like fairly new discs .... dust covers on rear shocks were shot ...inside was pretty much immaculate apart from ding in drivers door card.... inside of rear window was wet but then it was really cold last night and didn't see any signs of rear w wipe leaking ...... I would have bought it but .... the guy was keen on my bora on the phone but only offered £50 ... and would only knock 100 off the 2795 price tag ..... low mileage I know but Iwouldnt have payed more than 2300 with all the bits that needed doing .....some will say I'm to fussy and the price was ok .... but my search continues .....oh and power 105bhp .... it's ok but you need to push it more to get the best out of the engine rather than relying on the torque of a 140 and quite noisy in cabin when driven quite hard ..... or maybe I've just been spoilt with the se interior quietness of the bora as I found the 140 quite noisy in comparison ......not enough to put me off though

If it's any consolation I don't find anything in you write up to indicate you are being picky, far from it, you have done the very thing I was always taught to do, walk away. First impressions followed by gut instinct are as equally important as a full mechanical inspection, which from the sound of it you well capable of doing. Your old car has got to be worth more than £50 in scrap or parts ! Why oh why do car dealers seem to think they treat a potential buyer the way you were treated, it's beyond me? Out of interest how long was the mot may be its validity is in question regarding some of the points you raised, pads disc suspension parts

Mot til June 17 .... I would have thought advisory at least on last mot for front pads .... they just said ...the tyre will last til next June...errr no it won't ...I do 350 miles a week... and they hadn't even seen the pads .,... just said...'we will take your word on that' errr no, go have a look lol ... dust covers on shocks are not an mot requirement I believe ...although there are two chunks of metal rattling around on there ...book value and insurance value is around 2400 for the car .... they'd only drop to 2695 so away I went

dot com?  :sun:

Slightly off topic but I might be interested in that Bora.. YGPM :)

You did the right thing & walked away, the brakes & tyre should have been sorted before the garage advertised/sold it if they were a decent garage, the rear shock absorber bump stops would have been a advisory but they can fail at any time so may have been ok when the mot was carried out.
