The U.S. market requires it for GT to sell there.

I doubt a three minute segment featuring a fat septic that nobody's heard of is a requirement placed by Amazon.

IMHO I think they either ****ed up or knew what they were doing. Maybe a sort of 'anti Stig'?

It's all about marketing now and it's why I lost interest towards the end of TG,,,,,,,,,,,it became too financially successful and that leads to compromises.

Brits are good at innocent fun but then the commercial imperative takes over and you start to predict what's needed next to satisfy the sponsors.

I understand its got to have an american twist with amazon and i think theyve tried to off set this by having the last 2 episodes in whitby.

Still not worth its money for me.

Too scripted.

But then. Americans dont usually do our humour do they.

When it becomes a formula, it's time to pack up, for me at least.

There is always a new generation coming though but the hosts are going to age on screen also and that's a,problem surely.

Funny you say that. I was wondering when it would give in. When ive got kids n ive got to explain to them who the trio really are.

Not a bunch of old folk reading a script to earn money. Thats not it.

A strangely mesmerizing program that.

Was going to say that it just looks like it is filmed in someone's shed, then I remembered that it is.

Quite enjoyed it again.

I know the 'challenges' are as scripted as American Wrestling but I did find myself laughing.

That American driver though. Awful. Never thought I'd be pining for the Stig.

Just get a real racing driver, let him drive it and maybe give a racers POV on the car. If they are funny as well fair enough but not so many professional drivers are blessed with a sense of humor these days.

Haha, that has tickled me - not liking the American driver - fully understand it, and one of the main reason why I'm not bothering watching it. But look how you've spent "humour" LOL! Sorry, small things amuse small minds!

Mike

And look how you spelled 'spelt' :D

It's not a 'home programme' now.

They signed up for big bucks and now they have to deliver the product, probably to a more commercial U.S. audience and without repeating themselves too much.

(lol Opera's spell check thingy is 'Murican)

They spend their time surrounded by people and press that tell them how wonderful they are, not surprising they've started to believe it.

'Never meet your heroes' is a pretty solid principle.

Haven't heard many positive stories from friends that have met celebrities. Though my mate in Whitley Bay has met a few waning stars in his coffee shop next to the theatre.

He said Paul Daniels was very nice and some bloke from Boyzone.

I have another mate that is occasionally on telly. We keep him down to earth by continually taking the **** out of him.

I liked that daft show he did with his mate Simie (I think that was his name?) where they made a daft train delivery system for tea and such like. Didn't he also do that show where they made toys do things on an industrial scale?

"James May's Toy Stories" was the latter.

I've watched 3 TGT episodes, and the most surprising thing is really the lack of fanboys on here crowing about how good it is. Several months ago they were so busy telling us how much better it would be than the latest TG. I haven't seen the newest TG series yet, so can anyone say how do they compare?

That's the badger. To be honest I like most of the shows JM does. I think it's his enthusiasm and general interest in the minutia of any given subject. I a bit like watching a child play with a new toy :D

TGT seems to be rediscovering the TG form of late and as long as it keeps morphing back into TG it will probably continue to improve. Hammond still dominates too much with his mugging to the camera and May still looks uninterested and a bit of an outcast though. I wonder if he will be the first one to leave the gang?

New TG was OK apart from Chris Evans and if they move Chris Harris up to a main tester role the car should be funny and informative (Matt LeBlanc is really quite amusing :) ) The first TGT was OK, the Second episode was truely awful, possibly the dullest show I've ever seen from the boys, but the last two shows of TGT have been a much more 'return to form'. Overall Imho TGT is still the better show to watch, but I reckon the TG could become the better motoring show with a  few tweaks.

TG if it can plough it's own path it could do ok I think.

LeBlanc as an actor really can read a script and the other guys can just be let loose to do their thing.

Chris Harris is very good at taking whilst driving very fast and comes across as very enthusiastic.

Rory Reid ain't bad at all, bit wooden maybe but that might just take more experience in front of the cameras.

Sabine is gloriously unhinged.

Eddie Jorden.....I dunno what he's there for really.

To be honest

Not sure why so many hate Episode 2

Is it coz we have expectations of the same old cars, cars, cars?

I actually find it very funny

But like Tom Cruises "Edge of Tomorrow" but funnier - lol

Yeah - American in driving seat is so zzzzzZZZZ

...back to TGT, I agree the second episode was awful, but whilst the third had a more familiar look, I don't know.

The "Grand Tour" feature really dragged on and the noisy V8 joke stated to grate after the 15th time (and I love noisy V8s).

Honestly, I was bored - and that's just during the good bit. "Dead Celebrity" and "Conversation Time" are only good for putting the kettle on IMHO.

It looks like those who paid for Amazon Prime on the strength of this show may be feeling a bit ripped off?

Mike Skinner is boring because he can talk? or because he's a 2 dimensional Yank?

Previous Stigs weren't allowed to talk because the BBC couldn't find a pro racing driver who could actually drive and do a commentary at the same time. Should have signed up Martin Brundle.

Maybe it's just that any racing driver who isn't a British WASP isn't always popular in this country.

So far i thought Episode 1 was good hypercar porn,

Episode 2 was F*** all to do with cars,

and Episode 3 was just boring throughout

I don't feel ripped off. TGT is improving all the time and I enjoyed both the 3rd and 4th shows quite a bit :) Plus I use Amazon video and Prime shopping too. Happy customer so far.

Yes on both.

the shed show was alright, just a had a faint hint of brainiac about it though...

the toy stories one was very good though. The meccano bridge in Liverpool was fantastic, as was the lego house.

Having seen some advertising, not the actual TGT, yes, they do like theyve been boredom eating since TG finished..
