spud sr's birthday party today.

annoyed isnt right actually, more like mildly horrified by 2 things...

firstly one of his classmates' gift -

20230121_174021.thumb.jpg.435f83220403405d4bd1a88e5d0d0d5b.jpg

its JANUARY!!! where the f did he even get these?!?! (3of them) and if in a shop, what dip5h1t manager has made the decision to start stocking easter eggs already. ****er.

second thing....

while waiting to pay for spud's birthday party bowling a girl, about 13, came in and walked up to the counter, i presumed to ask for a bowling lane, but started chatting to the lady at the desk, shur they know each other. she (the 13yr old) then daid she had big news...

shed bought a car... she was working there! she was therefore at least 17. 🤨🤨🤨🤨 honestly she looked a child!!! i felt physically unwell because of how young she seemed and how old that made me feel 😫😫

(somehow im 40 this year)

This sounds like every day of my life after I reached 40. Kids do that to you.

On the upside I worked with a guy that was a great grandfather at 50!!

I became a grandfather in Dec last year at 66. I have yet to see the little chap who was born in New Zealand 2 days before Christmas. He returns to the UK with with my son & his partner & her mother in March. Baby sitting duty awaits.

Time does fly after you get to 40. Seems only yesterday that I was dropping my kids off at school etc. And now they have families of their own. I just don't know where those years have gone.

It's 22:10 and I'm trying to write a statement of suitability for a job, needs to get sent in tonight.
Only found out about the job a couple days ago, phoned up recruiter to do my usual checks and it seemed worth a punt. But his advice was to get the application in by Mon morning, they'd extended the application window but sounded like choice was getting made tomorrow.

Well ............ mildly anoying .............. (regarding Dementia)

Watching Tony Christie on morning telly and he was on about his Dementia diagnosis, as well as his upcoming tour (or whatever they called it).

He was saying that he decided not to worry about the diagnosis and get on with his life, including his tour, and how others should do the same.

That is easy for him to say though ..........

he is otherwise quite healthy for his age, has a perfectly able wife (afaik) to help him and within his work he will undoubtedly have a posse of people (crew) to help him achieve what he wants to do and through daily life, oh, and guessing he has a chauffeur too.

He has a display when he is on stage to remind him of his songs words, should the need arise.

Highly likely that he is a millionaire, certainly unlikely that he has any money worries that a lot of others worry about, and highly likely that he uses private healthcare ........ or at very least, could afford it if needed.

I have nothing other against the fella and do wish him well, however, I say what i say as my mum has just been given the diagnosis so finally (hopefully) she can at least start to get some of the help she needs.

Unfortunately also, her partner has had numerous stents inserted to deal with stones, and unfortunately the last one, which was supposed to be better than the previous ones, has moved, and this can put him in immediate danger.

And what the diagnosis also means is that she cannot drive anymore, therefore they will have to rely on the NHS ambulance staff, and most of us know what is happening with them at the moment, and at very least, the foreseeable future.

I feel for anyone having health issues but very much more so the ones that cannot afford to go private .............. nuf said.

T'was Alzheimer's and vascular dementia that finished my Dad off.  We are awaiting results of Mrs Gaz's 90 y/o Dad's recent memory test.  I suspect small vessel disease, not that the test completed so far will show this.

For family, it can often be sheer bloody hard, unrewarding work.  Certainly with my Dad, even going to see him became a chore towards the end, and I'm fairly sure the last two or three times I saw him, he didn't know who I was.

So yeah, good for you Tony Christie.  Not the same, but to me it feels a bit like Lewis Hamilton telling me I should become vegan, sanctimonious little twit.

Not today but last week...   (we're only just wrapping our heads around it)

As many of you will know my youngest daughter has Double Cortex Syndrome and Lennox Gastaut Epilepsy which leads to a whole host of medical, learning, cognitive and developmental issues.  She's currently in mainstream school with full time support but is coming up to 16 and they won't be able to offer anything for her beyond this educational year as she's not in any way capable of ongoing learning in an academic environment.  However, she has to stay in education until she's 18 so we've applied to two specialist colleges locally that deal with kids with significant disabilities and special needs, as it's clear mainstream can't and the LA college for such kids have also said they won't be able to support her needs.

Both applications took a long time to complete (days) with lots of information and medical etc. reports needing to be submitted and both were also followed up with a series of online discussions with staff, one lasting nearly 4 hours.

Anyhow - the first to respond has declined her and said they cannot realistically support her needs and that, if she went there they would be concerned over how other kids, many of whom have their own complex needs, might react to her having a  seizure.

That was really hard to hear, damned annoying given the limited options we have and a real body blow for us!

So we're just hoping the other place will come up trumps.

And there was me in a right grump ‘cos my back aches a bit! 🙄

More seriously, I wish you @skomaz, the family, and especially your youngest all the best; hoping and praying you get a positive response form the other college and she can get the teaching & support she needs and deserves. All credit to you guys for the love and support so clearly demonstrated…

Edit - managed to get one out no bother, but the heater element of the second one is stuck solid. Looks like it’s head off, or maybe leave it there and let it work itself loose as see what happens :D

Didn’t risk it, stripped the head. But, it’s the car that keeps giving ….. injector 1 needed 6tn from a press to get it out! Now on the hunt for new injector.

Why oh why didn’t the wife listen to her mechanic and scrap it 😞

Lesson learnt …. Never let my wife buy a car she loves as she won’t let it go.

Thanks - I'm sure we'll get there in the end and are hopeful re the other place.

The next battle will be with the LA re them accepting and funding it - but it's been a pretty constant battle with them for the last ten years (and still is re her EHCP review and update) so nothing new there.

Good luck with your battles. Fighting bureaucracy is exhausting. I hope things will work out and the lass will be well cared for.

Rip off supermarket prices ................... (I know we all pay them).

It has even been mentioned on the tv (news iirc) that prices are rising unnecessarily .............

Morrisons usual price for custard, buy 3 cartons for £1.50 ...................... And it has never been a special offer

Now you only get 2 cartons for £1.50 ..................... They really are taking the pith

aye, been like that for a while now...

example that really hacks off -

washing powder prices. a current "50 wash" box of branded washing powder is €13 in one of our chain supermarkets.

12months ago a 64 wash pack was €15. mid covid (2021) that 64 wash was "on offer" at €12, before it became a 60 wash at €13. pre covid (early 2020) a 64 wash box at regular shelf price was €11.80...

22% less product for a 10% higher price..

and a reeeaalll pi55 boiler - my wife's gluten free pizza that likes and can eat which went from €2.99 each pre covid with 2 for €5 a regualr offer price up to currently €5.50 each and an offer price of €4.50 / €5.00 each...

Indeed...   Gluten free and Keto stuff is extortionate at the moment for what feels like no reason.  And if you have a medical issue that requires those products you have no choice...   You're buggered.

Too many calendars!

Our friends seem to have taken to sending out 2023 calendars instead of Christmas cards. So far we have received six, and they still seem to be coming in. Two have first class photos: places where our friends have been on holiday, or their local scenery and wildlife. Images taken by competent amateur photographers with good cameras. Three are awful: fuzzy photos (probably taken on a smartphone but not properly focussed) showing their boring hobbies. We can use two calendars, but six???

My 83 year mum has rheumatoid arthritis, macular degeneration in both eyes (dry in the left, wet in the right).  Her eyesight is almost non-existent.  She has no hearing at all in one ear and little hearing in the other.  Her mobility is almost non-existent and she has just had half of her right lung removed due to cancer and has a tumour in the left lung that will need attention.  For the last couple of years mum has relied on myself or my brother to take her to her many medical appointments, take her shopping, etc. but her surgery had arranged home visits from the district nursing team for blood tests, to change wound dressings, etc.

Last week her doctor's surgery rang in the morning needing to see her that afternoon.  Rather than drag myself or my brother home from work (which for me would be at least a 90 minute drive) to take her, mum just about managed to get a taxi to the surgery and the taxi driver very kindly led mum to the front door.  As a result, the nurse who saw her has informed her that she no longer qualifies for home visits as she is clearly mobile!  My mum is very cross about this, so by proxy I'm cross too 🙂

That is truly stupid...   But doesn't surprise me given some GP surgeries seem to see patients as something they don't want to deal with

Demanding that an 83 year old immobile patient should get themselves to the surgery the same afternoon shows what a shower of **** they are.

In my country a medical taxi would be provided, I am usually the only one who ever goes to the hospital by my own means, even I get a medical taxi prescribed to take me too and from a coloscopy.

Without the French health service most taxi companies would not exist and small towns would have no taxj services at all, it does at times seem that people are ripping the backside out of it an maybe some reform is needed but your mothers situation would never ever be allowed.

Following on in this context, I have renal failure, and, in 2 years the only time I have seen/spoken to my GP he was actually doing a home visit to my Mum!!

Our village health centre used to be marvellous. Now a bossy-boots female receptionist decides if you need to see a nurse or not, or deserve a phone call at home from a doctor sometime later in the day....

My stepson tells me that this is becoming the norm almost everywhere around here. This is one reason why some people decide to go to A&E rather than struggle to get seen by their GP.

However, when my wife went yesterday to have one of the nurses do the weekly change of dressing on an old skin ulcer, she noticed that the health centre waiting room was very full of people - presumably waiting for a booked appointment with one of the staff.
