Petrol or Diesel is limited choice logical

Featured Replies

Just wondering what peoples thoughts are on petrol vs diesel

In UK the November car sales are only 37.7% for diesel  vs 56.8% petrol (with remainder hybrid and electric)

In other words for every 5 cars sold, 2 are diesel and 3 are petrol

or in percentage terms current petrol car sales are 150% of diesel

You can get following in UK :

1.0 tsi 85KW (115PS) petrol front wheel drive manual or DSG

1.5 tsi 110KW (150PS) petrol front wheel drive manual or DSG

1.6 tdi 85KW (115PS) diesel front wheel drive manual or DSG

2.0 tdi 110KW (150PS) diesel four wheel drive manual or DSG

On the basis that petrol cars are more popular what do people think of Skoda idea that cannot have a petrol 4x4

but if you are the minority and want a diesel, you have choice of one engine depending on the transmission

It seems odd selection, especially as new car tax is increasing in April for diesels per the budget (which logically is likely to see diesel share fall)

Skoda UK doesn't appear to have reacted to budget changes, and increased the petrol choice for orders (after what date do new orders made, get delivered after budget changes)

If petrol now outsells diesel in ratio of 3:2 why do dealers struggle to have petrol demonstrators ?

Any Thoughts ?

I think it just reflects the planning horizon that car companies must have.  Skoda probably made this decision way way before the current anti diesel crusade began and it will take a long time for their whole supply chain etc to catch up.

One thought, have you considered a SEAT Ateca FR 2.0 TSi, 190 ps, 7-speed DSG 4-drive?

App. £30K otr, built by Skoda & pretty much the same car as a Karoq.........

I had a drive in one last week & was quite impressed.

Almost every SEAT dealer has one as a demonstrator & if you believe Autotrader most of them are for sale at reasonable prices.

I'm going to wait for the Ateca Cupra (if it happens....) 'cos I like the idea of a medium-sized 300 ps SUV in re-sale grey......

HTH, DC.

Skoda UK / CZ or VW Group never knew what was being announced last week or that 'New' Diesels were to be the ones being affected from the 6th April 2018.

They do now.

So they need to react, or not as the Fleet / Lease / Customers will pay a bit more for the first year on the VED / Lease / Purchase.

So lets see what offers VW & other manufacturers come up with punting Euro 6 diesels with only the old EU Emissions testing.

Also what petrol models they start increasing the production of if they need to meet an increased demand.

I did 354 miles today on less than half a tank of diesel and will do another 354 later and not fill up with diesel until tomorrow,

that is getting better than 10 miles to the litre & easily achieved with a heavy load.

That can not be done in a Petrol 7 seater that i know of.

The Chancellor has really done an odd thing to Euro 6 Diesels with SCR getting first registered from the 6th April 2018.

Seems like madness not to offer a petrol 4x4 model to me. However the car buying public seems content to buy so called SUVs with 2WD. I

believe the forthcoming even smaller Skoda SUV will have no 4x4 option at all.

If the SUV means Suburban Utility Vehicle and it is for use in the Suburbs then 2 wheel drive might well be enough even in suburbs with some snow like today and tomorrow. Or are they just smaller MPV's / Cross Overs / Taller roofs, shorter wheel base, all the looks but just a hatchback,

not even higher ground clearance.  Bash Guards and wheel spats, just added tat.

There are plenty Part Time 4x4's and AWD's around from plenty of manufacturers if that is what is needed for the school run and going to the shops.

SEAT, VW or Audi will do one in the same platform as Skoda.

If the Skoda sister car to the Arona has no Part Time All Wheel Drive the Next Fabia based one might have it with a Light Hybrid Drivetrain,

small petrol engine and electric motors.
